Chapter 404

Edward and Mr. Whitmore trembled, their bodies wracked with fear and regret. They wished they could rewind time, erase their recent mockery of Joseph.

"Jo-Joseph, I was wrong. I was blind. Just break my hands," Edward pleaded, his voice choked with tears, "or you can slap me. That's fine too."

Joseph reached out, pinching Edward's greasy cheek. "You were pretty cocky a moment ago. Was it me or my wife you were disrespecting, huh?"

"I was wrong, Joseph." Edward dropped to his knees in an instant.

"If you're going to kneel, do it to Liam. See if he can whip up a new chip for you within a week."

Joseph smirked, taking Cassie by the hand and making his way towards the door.

No one dared to halt their departure—not even Felix and Luna, who were visibly uneasy. As he neared the exit, Joseph paused, casting an icy stare back at Felix. "I won’t forget this little set-up of yours."

Felix's lips quivered, the unexpected turn of events far from what he had anticipated.

"And another thing: my wife Cassie is off-limits to insult. Anyone who dares to mock her beauty is asking for war with me."

With that, Joseph wrapped his arm around Cassie and strode away.

Luna seethed as she watched them leave. She had gambled on Felix's assumption that Joseph was down and out. Not only was Joseph still radiating charisma, but now that he was free from the shackles of the Hernandez Group, his future was bound to be even brighter.

"Grandpa... Grandpa, what's wrong with you...?"

Suddenly, a burst of commotion erupted behind him, throwing the engagement party into utter disarray. Walter's chest ached with anger.

The Anderson family quickly ushered the old man into a quiet room.

"Wesley, come here," Walter beckoned to Wesley.

"Grandpa..." Wesley approached uneasily.

Walter grabbed his cane and brought it down on his shoulder, "Why didn't you tell us about the Fletcher team walking out on such a big deal?"

"Dad, calm down. It's Joseph. He played dirty," Mabel quickly shielded her son.

"Did you know about this already?" Walter coughed angrily, "It's obvious Joseph has been plotting behind our backs. If I had known sooner, we wouldn't have completely fallen out with him."

"Dad, don't you see how ambitious Joseph is? He wants to take full control of Anderson Group," Celeste said heatedly. "He's after the power in your hands. If the Andersons fall under his control, then what will we do?"

Mildred sighed, "After next week's Summer Corporation press conference, what's going to happen to our Anderson Group? Wesley, can you find a new team to handle development? Even if you do, Summer is probably going to have their second-gen chips out by then."

Wesley clenched his fists, his face a mess, at a loss for what to reply.

Walter shook his head repeatedly; despite despising Joseph, it was clear to him which of his grandsons was truly competent.

Celeste's eyes sparkled, "Dad, we could confront Joseph, make him hand over the chip data, or threaten to expose his mental illness and his near-murderous history. Who would dare work with a CEO who's mentally unstable?"

"How could you even suggest that, Celeste?" Mildred exclaimed angrily. "He's your own nephew."

"Mom, he almost ruined my face. He's never treated me like his aunt," Celeste huffed, looking towards Mabel. "Sis, do you think my idea would work? He cares about Cassie, right? If she finds out Joseph's sick, she won't dare stay with him."

Mabel felt conflicted. While she had indeed threatened Joseph before, ...

She turned her face away, "Joseph still carries Anderson blood in him. We can't stoop so low, and as for his illness, we played a part in that."

"Sis, you can't be serious. After all he's done, you still speak for this little brute..."

"Shut your mouth," Walter erupted. "That's more than enough of your terrible ideas. Now, all of you go to the company and figure out a solution."

Celeste pursed her lips.
