Chapter 1676 Showing Off Love
Laura was very tired; she didn't want to move and hadn't thought about going to find Derek. She knew he was still in the house.
She just didn't know what time it was.
She got up, found her phone, and was startled when she saw the time.
Alright, it was nine in the morning.
She had perfectly missed work and was late.
Laura quickly dialed Cassie's number. "Dear Mrs. Brooks, I'm sorry, something came up, and I need to take the morning off."
"No problem, I figured you might be too tired to get out of bed." Cassie's voice came through with a hint of amusement. "Not only do I understand, but the whole company probably does too."
"What do you mean?" Laura had a bad feeling.
"Looks like you were too tired and just got up." Cassie said softly. "Didn't you see the entertainment news this morning? You and Derek shopping sweetly for cohabitation items are trending."
Laura said nervously, "We're not living together."
"Why buy so many things if you're not living together?" Cassie said with a smile. "Even if you're not living together, you must have spent the night, right? Didn't it wear you out last night? Are you sure you can come in the afternoon?"
"Cassie, you're such a rogue."
Laura wished she could just disappear. "Why am I trending again? I'm not a celebrity."
"Come on, you're dating the President's son, that's more noticeable than dating a celebrity. Besides, your exposure is known to everyone now," Cassie said gleefully.
"You're in the spotlight lately, I suggest you wear a mask when you go out. I'll have to suppress the trending news for you again, which costs money, so send the money over later."
After hanging up, Laura quietly opened the news. [Derek and Laura Shopping for Cohabitation Items, Sweet Moments Envied by Others.]
Alright, she and Derek were photographed by passersby while shopping at the mall last night.
In the photos, she was either holding Derek's arm or their fingers were intertwined, and there were even a few where she was pinching Derek's waist. Overall, the scenes looked either flirtatious or sweet.
The reporter also mentioned that they were likely buying cohabitation items, including pajamas, change of clothes, and various household items.
She covered her face.
They were photographed so much last night, and she didn't notice at all.
Feeling a bit down, she got up again to check the online comments.
[Single people all want to be in a relationship now.]
[I was at that mall yesterday too. My friend pointed out that the guy was handsome and the girl was beautiful, but I didn't recognize them at the time. What a pity, otherwise, I would have asked for an autograph.]
[I saw them too. We were buying ice cream, and Derek was in line. He was so doting on Laura, and Laura was very beautiful. When a young man tried to chat her up, she was very polite, and Derek politely helped Laura turn him down. They both have great personalities.]
[Didn't expect Laura and Derek to buy these affordable sneakers. I'm wearing the same sneakers as the President's son.]
[Single men, look at how Derek accompanies his girlfriend shopping. He doesn't mind the fatigue and helps carry so many things. That's why you're single.]
[Reporters, take more photos. I want to see them show more affection. I love it.]
Laura read with great interest.
Initially, she felt a bit embarrassed, but now she suddenly felt sweet.
If they were photographed, so be it. After all, she and Derek were openly dating.
As she was thinking, Rose's call suddenly came in.
Laura's face stiffened. How could she forget about this?
A few seconds later, she nervously answered the phone, "Mom."
"Laura, finished working overtime? Isn't the new product launching? Didn't it wear you out?" Rose's voice came through with a strange tone.
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Rose said sarcastically. "Laura, you're quite something, lying to me about working overtime, but actually spending the night with Derek. The whole world knows, and your parents are the last to find out."
Laura said softly, "I was afraid you wouldn't agree."
"Of course, I don't agree. Can't a girl be a bit more reserved?" Rose said angrily.
"Mom, I've been married once and have a child," Laura said sheepishly. "I don't need to be that reserved anymore, right?"
Rose was almost infuriated but felt helpless. "You can't let Derek think you're too easy to get, you know?"
"Mom, Derek is the one at a disadvantage here," Laura said softly. "If anyone should be worried, it's Derek's mom."
Rose was silent.
Listen to this shameless talk, what else could she say?
But on second thought, Laura's words seemed to make some sense.
"Are you really planning to live together?" Rose asked calmly.
"No, Derek just moved out of the Presidential Palace. We haven't had much time alone," Laura said awkwardly. "I'm still living at home. Sometimes, distance is a kind of beauty."
"Good to know. I won't agree to you living together before marriage," Rose said angrily. "But be careful not to get pregnant before marriage."
"I know."
After hanging up, Laura's face was already very hot.
So embarrassing.
"Sweetheart, breakfast is ready."
Derek suddenly pushed open the door. He was wearing a beige loungewear, with a warm and doting smile on his face. "I made you some noodles."
Laura remembered that she had mentioned wanting noodles while they were shopping at the supermarket last night.
Being able to get up and enjoy the breakfast Derek made gave her a sweet feeling.
"I don't want to move."
Laura deliberately kicked the blanket, acting weak. "It's all your fault, I'm exhausted."
If she hadn't said anything, it would have been fine. But as soon as she did, Derek remembered her charming look from last night and couldn't help but lean in to kiss her lips.
"Derek, enough." Laura kicked him, pretending to be angry. "We were photographed while shopping last night. Now everyone knows I spent the night at your place, and my mom scolded me. It's so humiliating."
"We didn't do anything shameful," Derek said nonchalantly, giving her another kiss. "You're the one who lied, not my fault."
"If not you, then who? It's all your fault," Laura said, turning into an unreasonable woman, hitting his chest. "I'm going to be laughed at."
"Who's laughing at you? They're all envious of you."
Derek picked her up. "Looks like my baby is angry. Let me help you brush your teeth this morning."
In the bathroom, Derek really did brush her teeth.
In the mirror, their reflections were stuck together. Derek was handsome, Laura was charming, both with annoyed expressions but eyes full of sweetness.
This scene made Laura slightly dazed.
After washing up, Derek carried her out for breakfast.
Sitting down, she said awkwardly, "Don't always carry me around, I'm not Maeve."
"But what if I want to carry you?" Derek looked at her intently.
She shyly glared at him, "Didn't you get enough of carrying me last night?"
"Not enough," Derek said with a smile.
Laura lowered her head to eat the noodles, feeling embarrassed.
The noodles he made were delicious.
After eating, neither of them was in a hurry to go to work.
Derek held her on the couch, trimming her nails.
Laura glanced at the book on the coffee table and asked, "When is your exam?"
"Next month," Derek said with a smile. "After I pass, I'll have to attend classes again."
"Will there be many beautiful girls at school?" Laura suddenly warned, "If you dare to do anything to betray me, you're done for."
"I wouldn't dare," Derek quickly finished trimming and pulled her into his arms. "Just taking care of you alone almost drains my energy. How could I handle other women?"
"Derek, you're asking for it."
Laura angrily pounced on him, pushing him down on the couch.
Derek pulled her waist, making her fall onto his chest.
He chuckled, lifted his head to kiss her, and quickly flipped her over, pinning her down.
"Derek, you... mmm."
