Chapter 586

The late hours of the night had fallen, wrapping the clubhouse in a blanket of quietude.

Joseph was seated on a plush leather sofa, a glass of ruby red wine cradled in his hand. His attire for the evening was a black pinstripe shirt, a few buttons left undone at the collar, lending an air of casual elegance to his gloomy, handsome visage. His face was a portrait of irresistible danger, a magnet for the brave and the foolish.

Megan, who had been sharing a song with Sarah, found her gaze drifting towards him. A subtle curl of her lip betrayed her satisfaction; from this moment forward, this man was hers and hers alone.

The tranquility of the room was shattered as the front door was thrust open with a force that echoed through the silence. Noah stormed in, his eyes and brows aflame with anger. "Joseph, how could you confine Cassie like a mental patient?" he demanded, his voice resonating with accusation. "Are you trying to drive her to the brink of insanity?"

"Noah, you don't understand. Cassie is truly unhinged," Michael retorted, rising languidly from his seat to rest his arm on Noah's shoulder.

Noah shrugged off the unwanted contact. "You're spouting nonsense. The last time I saw Cassie, she was perfectly fine. I know her. She's weathered countless storms in Madison, but she's not someone who can be easily broken."

"Do you presume to know her better than I do?" Joseph countered, his eyes narrowing as he rose to his feet.

"Joseph, you know her as well, you've just forgotten a great deal," Noah replied, his confusion evident. "Release her. If your love for her has waned, set her free. Cassie won't trouble you. By keeping her locked up like this, you're driving even a sane person to madness, let alone Cassie, who has just suffered a miscarriage."

Megan interjected softly, "Noah, Cassie is truly deranged. If you don't believe me, she nearly stabbed Joseph. The wound on his head? That was her doing."

"Silence," Noah snapped. He had once been indifferent towards Megan, but now he found her presence repugnant.

"Noah, mind your language when addressing Megan," Michael chided, his brow furrowing in displeasure. "Megan meant no harm."

Noah cast a glance at Michael, then at the silent Lucas and Joseph. He was at a loss. When had these people become so indoctrinated? When had everything changed? It seemed as though the shift had occurred when Megan had entered the scene.

"Lucas, Michael, Joseph may be ill, but you two were once rational," Noah began, his voice laden with frustration. "When Joseph fell ill in the past, Cassie was there, by his side. How did her face become marred? How did she end up locked in the basement? You used to sing her praises, didn't you? She may not have known you for long, but surely you must have some understanding of her character."

His voice rose to a shout, "She once prevented the Hernandez family from committing Joseph to a mental institution. Now you're doing the same to her. Do you even consider yourselves men?"

Joseph's brow furrowed deeply at Noah's words. They stirred something within him, a sense of familiarity. But when he tried to recall those scenes, a headache would ensue, obliterating any semblance of memory.

Michael's brow mirrored Joseph's, his expression one of deep thought.

Noah rounded on him, "Michael, I know you blame Cassie for taking Joseph away. But when she pursued him, she was oblivious to Megan's existence. When she discovered the truth and believed Megan to be dead, she became Joseph's wife. Then Megan returned, and you demanded that Cassie step aside because of your close ties with Megan. But have you ever considered things from Cassie's perspective? She lost her children and her husband. And Megan? She has you, she has Joseph, she has a promising future."

Noah's tirade left Michael feeling a profound sense of frustration.
