Chapter 1161 Cassie, I'm back

Elliott nodded in return. Joseph studied his face. Laura was stunning, and Elliott, her brother, wasn't bad-looking either.

Joseph realized Cassie always had handsome guys around her.

"Mr. Miller, have you known Cassie long?" Joseph asked.

"Over ten years. Cassie and Laura are close, so she often came to our place. Back then, Arthur was her boyfriend. Both she and Laura saw me as a brother, and I saw her as a sister," Elliott explained.

Joseph got it.

"What are you thinking?" Cassie rolled her eyes. "Can you stop freaking out whenever a guy's around me?"

"When you love someone, you get nervous," Joseph shrugged.

"Good morning." Michael walked out of the first-floor bedroom, stretching and looking sleepy. Seeing Joseph, he woke up fast. "Joseph, did you really come over in the middle of the night?"

Joseph shot him a cold look. Cassie forced a smile, "Mr. Jude, you sure know how to tattle."

"What did I tattle about?" Michael looked innocent. "I just told Joseph that Everett had a late-night snack with us. Everett's quite handsome, and compared to him, we look old."

"You're the one who's old. Don't compare me to you," Joseph said flatly.

"Joseph, that's harsh. I'm your friend," Michael grumbled. "Everett definitely likes Cassie. I told him she has a boyfriend and kids, so he backed off."

"Cassie, stay away from Everett. Don't give him a chance," Joseph warned, frowning. "Remember David."

Cassie felt uneasy too.

For some reason, Everett felt familiar. Even though they just met, his smile made her want to take care of him like a younger brother.

But she didn't dare tell Joseph that.

Cassie figured she wouldn't see Everett again anyway.

At nine, Laura came downstairs, surprised to see Joseph.

Cassie said coolly, "Michael told Joseph we had a late-night snack with Everett."

Laura glared at Michael. "Why do you care so much? Next time, don't come with us."

"Joseph," Michael looked to him for help.

Joseph didn't want to respond, but since Michael had helped him, he said, "Ms. Miller, Michael's my friend. He wanted my relationship with Cassie to be stable, so he informed me. If you do this, it seems like you're encouraging Cassie to find a lover. You can find one yourself, but Cassie can't."

Michael felt aggrieved, thinking, 'Joseph is so ungrateful. What does he mean by Laura could?'

"Come on! I didn't," Laura said. "Even though Cassie is dating you, she can still appreciate good looks and have male friends, right?"

Joseph's brow furrowed. "If that guy has ulterior motives, she can't be friends with him."

"I'm afraid you think every man has ulterior motives towards Cassie," Laura said with a sly smile, raising her eyebrows at Cassie.

Cassie rubbed her forehead. "Alright, stop arguing. Joseph, you need to trust me."

"Cassie, are you siding with her now?" Joseph felt hurt.

"If she doesn't side with me, should she side with you?" Laura shot back. "I've been there for all her happiest and most painful moments."

Joseph fell silent.

Michael chimed in, "Joseph, you can't win this one."

Cassie was about to respond when her phone rang. It was an unknown number. "Hello, is this Ms. Brooks? We're from the cemetery management. Last night, your family member's grave was vandalized."

"What?" Cassie's face went pale. "Whose grave?"

"Isabella's," the staff member said. "The grave was dug up, and everything inside is gone."

"I'll be right there," Cassie said, standing up quickly.

"What happened?" Joseph asked, worried. He hadn't seen her this angry in a long time.

"Isabella's grave was vandalized last night," Cassie said, clenching her fists.

"Who would do such a thing? That's so disrespectful," Laura shouted.

"I'll go with you," Joseph said, placing a hand on her shoulder.

An hour later, Joseph drove her to the cemetery.

Cassie arrived to find Isabella's grave dug up, the tombstone destroyed, and Isabella's name scratched out. Even Isabella's photo was missing.

That photo was her only memory of Isabella.

Cassie clenched her fists, her eyes turning red. "Who could be so cruel to not even spare my mom's grave?"

"Could it be David?" Joseph asked.

"I don't know." Cassie shook her head. It was strange. Why Isabella's grave? Even though there were no ashes, vandalizing it was still a huge disrespect.

"Ms. Brooks, we found this note in front of the grave this morning," the staff member said, handing over a white note.

Cassie opened it and read: "Cassie, I'm back. I will settle our scores one by one."

Her heart felt ice-cold.

Even after learning everything about David's past, she had never felt this cold.

David was hateful but not scary because she knew his true nature.

But the person behind this note was hiding in the shadows. She didn't know when they would strike or what they would do.

"Do you know who it is?" Joseph held her trembling hands.

"It's Olivia. It must be her," Cassie said through gritted teeth.

After Joyce's death, Olivia disappeared, but Cassie always felt she would come back.

Now Olivia had really returned.

With Olivia's ruthless ways, vandalizing a grave was something she would do.
