In a voice laced with pain, Jan replied, " Cassie, you have no idea. Ever since the news of your demise reached us three years ago, Joseph has been at the helm of the company. After all, legally, he is your husband. Edward and the others were naturally pleased to have Joseph as their support. Under Joseph's leadership, the Peace Group has flourished over the past few years, with its assets doubling. However, two years ago, Megan ascended to the position of CEO, a move orchestrated by Joseph. I was relegated to the lower echelons, and Charles fared even worse. He is now merely a minor supervisor. In essence, everyone who once served you has been suppressed by Megan."
Cassie asked, "And Carter Harrison?"
"Carter returned to the city. Megan, aware of your close ties with him, barred him from any involvement in the company's affairs. Rumor has it that the company even withheld Carter's dividends."
Cassie's beautiful face clouded over at this revelation.
She had never anticipated that Joseph would hand over the Peace Group to Megan. The Peace Group was the most precious legacy her mother had left her, and now it was in the clutches of that detestable woman, Megan. 'Joseph, oh Joseph', she thought, 'now that I have returned, I will settle these scores with you, one by one.'
"Jan, who is she?" The receptionist, bewildered by Jan addressing Cassie by her name, asked.
"What do you mean, who is she? She is Cassie, the rightful chairwoman of our company. And now, she has returned," Jan retorted angrily. "The company belongs to Cassie."
The receptionist was left speechless.
Suddenly, the security guard's voice echoed from the entrance, "Megan has arrived."
"Megan, you've arrived."
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Megan, clad in a plaid dress and sporting a gentle smile, made her entrance. She was followed by a woman dressed in black pants and a black jacket, who bore the appearance of a bodyguard.
However, upon laying eyes on Cassie, Megan's carefully made-up face froze instantly. She had seen Cassie on video the previous night, but seeing her in person was a different matter. Cassie was even more stunning than she appeared on camera, and no one would question that she was barely twenty years old.
Compared to Cassie, even with her diligent skincare routine, Megan was nearing thirty and the fine lines around her eyes were becoming more apparent.
Megan finally understood why Joseph had fallen for Cassie in the past.
She couldn't help but wonder where Cassie had been all this time, and how she had miraculously rejuvenated her face.
But even with her restored beauty, Joseph was entirely under Megan's control. Who did Cassie think she was?
With these thoughts, Megan smirked.
Ignoring Cassie, Megan headed straight for the elevator.
"Megan, where do you think you're going? This is my company," Cassie suddenly grabbed Megan's glamorous long hair.
Caught off guard by Cassie's sudden action, Megan was yanked to the ground, crying out in pain.
"What are you doing?" The woman in black by her side immediately lunged at Cassie.
"Oh, I didn't mean to. I didn't expect her to be so fragile. She fell down with just a pull," Cassie quickly retreated, releasing Megan and holding a large clump of hair that had come off, "I just envied Megan's thick hair, but it turns out it's all extensions."
" Cassie, you did that on purpose. Athena, seize her for me," Megan's normally elegant features twisted in anger.
She had always been self-conscious about her thin, short hair. Megan had specifically chosen the most expensive hair salon to get extensions, and now they had all been yanked off by Cassie. Megan was livid.
"Why are you arresting me? I haven't committed any crimes," Cassie swiftly defended herself against Athena. After only a few moves, Athena was knocked down by Cassie.
Megan was left dumbstruck. She knew that Athena had been sent by Joseph to protect her. Over the years, Cassie had actually learned martial arts and was far from weak. This could prove to be problematic.
"Are you affiliated with Dragon?" Cassie raised an eyebrow as she looked at Athena, who quickly regained her footing. "Do you know Joe?"
