Chapter 1639 I'm Not That Despicable
Michael stood behind Eric and, seeing Derek arrive, excitedly said, "Grandpa, Uncle, he's here. I've been telling you for a long time that he and Laura are having an affair. I told you, but you didn't believe me. These two have been deceiving us all along. He's been playing me for a fool. Today, he must give me an explanation."
Hearing this, a sneer flashed across Derek's face, but he didn't rush to speak.
"Derek, you've really disappointed me," Eric said, pounding his cane on the ground. "Are there no women left in the world? You got involved with your cousin's ex-wife. You're shameless. If this gets out, how will the Jude family face anyone?"
"Haven't the Jude family had enough shame recently? What difference does a little more make?" Derek mocked.
"Derek," Carl slammed the table in anger, "what kind of attitude is that? Is your grandpa wrong? No wonder you ignored the blind dates we set up for you and even pulled that gay stunt. You did it on purpose, didn't you?"
"Yes, I did it on purpose. I like Laura..."
Before he could finish, Carl grabbed a cup and threw it at Derek. "Kneel down and cut off all contact with Laura immediately. From now on, she has nothing to do with the Presidential Palace."
Derek's shoulder throbbed with pain from the impact, but he bit his lip and stood even straighter. "What era is this? Kneeling? You're just the President, not an emperor."
"You," Carl pointed at him, trembling with rage.
Michael seized the opportunity and said, "Carl, he and Laura must have been together for a long time. You saw the video I took, right? No wonder he kept persuading me to divorce Laura and even let her move into the Presidential Palace. They must have been sneaking around there, and you just didn't notice."
"Shut up," Violet said sternly. "You say they were together, but that's just your one-sided story. Michael, I understand you're upset, but you can't pin every crime on Derek. I believe Derek has a sense of decency. You betrayed your marriage; that's a fact and has nothing to do with anyone else."
"Of course, you would defend Derek," Michael retorted angrily. "I know you've always disliked me. Otherwise, you wouldn't have had the guards throw me out when I went to the Presidential Palace to see my daughter. Even before we divorced, Laura often contacted Derek at night. They always touched heads and looked intimate whenever they met. I even warned them."
Derek chuckled coldly, his eyes deep and icy. "Michael, how did you become like this?"
"What do you mean, 'like this'?" Michael pointed at him angrily. "I've made mistakes, but I'm better than you. I wouldn't be as sneaky as you."
Derek stared at him. "You say that before you divorced, Laura and I often contacted each other. Why don't you check with the phone company? At most, we contacted each other once a week. As for touching heads, that's even more ridiculous. We only met at family gatherings. The only time we met at your party was when you deceived Laura to meet Megan. Laura asked me to check on you. When she found out you lied, I felt sorry for her and patted her head to comfort her. We were aboveboard; I wasn't as despicable and dirty as you."
"No wonder Laura found out I lied. It was you stirring things up behind my back," Michael fumed. "You're my cousin. Shouldn't you have kept it a secret or told me in advance? Am I your family, or is Laura? You clearly wanted us to divorce."
Derek's face was full of sarcasm. "It's all my fault. You betrayed your marriage, and I didn't help you cover it up. I should have helped you deceive your wife, huh? Aren't you disgusted?"
"Who are you calling disgusting? Am I more disgusting than you?"
Michael couldn't take it anymore and lunged at Derek, and they started fighting.
"Quick, pull them apart," Eric ordered.
Aaron, Carl, and James quickly separated the two.
"Let go of me. Derek, you seduced my wife. I won't forget this grudge," Michael roared.
Violet pressed her throbbing temples and said angrily, "Michael, if you keep making a scene, we'll have to ask you to leave."
"Why should you kick me out?" Michael retorted. "You want to push me around with your son? Mom, Dad, Grandpa, you have to speak up for me. I'm the victim here. Violet, you can't just pick on us because Carl's the President."
"When have I ever picked on your family?" Violet said, disappointed. "Michael, your words are sowing discord between our families. You're basing everything on a video you recorded today, claiming Derek seduced Laura during your marriage and that Laura betrayed you. Do you have any other evidence? If you can present solid evidence, I'll kneel and apologize to you today."
"Don't," James interjected. "Violet, I know what kind of person you are. There's no need."
"Exactly," Caroline nodded. Although initially furious and shocked, they weren't foolish enough to take Michael's words as evidence.
Moreover, since Michael got involved with Megan, they knew he had a tendency to imagine things.
"Mom, Dad," Michael said, utterly disappointed, "we're your sons, and you're still siding with Derek."
"Can you be quiet for a moment?" James glared at him. "Let's hear what Derek has to say, okay?"
"He'll definitely lie," Michael sneered. "Of course, he won't admit it."
Caroline rubbed her temples in frustration. "It's my fault. I shouldn't have agreed to let Laura into our family in the first place. Otherwise, the two brothers wouldn't be at each other's throats."
"You are indeed at fault. If you hadn't tried to use Laura to pull Michael away from Megan, she wouldn't have married into the Jude family," Derek said bluntly. "And what happened? Michael ended up like this, and Laura got hurt."
Caroline's face changed slightly, and Michael was furious. He shouted, "I never intended to divorce Laura. It was you who instigated it. And even if Laura and I divorced, didn't the Jude family give her enough? I don't have any shares in the Jude Group; they all went to Maeve. The company's dividends also went to Laura."
