Chapter 1037 I Already Have Someone I Like

Cassie knew the Dixon family invited her mainly because of Laura.

She figured Laura would be here too.

Just as she thought that, she saw Laura and Violet walk in, followed by a young guy in his early twenties with clear skin and good looks.

Cassie vaguely remembered him as Carl's only son, Derek Jude. They'd seen each other from a distance at the last party but hadn't spoken.

"Cassie!" Laura greeted her warmly. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"

"I was busy and forgot," Cassie said, nodding to Violet and shaking hands with Derek.

"Mrs. Jude, Mr. Jude," David smiled, shaking hands with Violet and Derek. "I've heard a lot about you, Mr. Jude. Your reputation precedes you."

"Mr. Foster, you're too kind. You're quite accomplished yourself," Derek replied smoothly. He'd grown up around Carl and James, so he was sociable and approachable.

Cassie watched quietly. At the party where Carl recognized Laura as his goddaughter, she'd seen how quickly David connected with Ralph. She thought it was normal for David to want to meet influential people, but today she realized he was quite good at ingratiating himself.

Violet looked at her meaningfully. "Mr. Foster is quite the talker. Mrs. Brooks is very lucky."

Cassie felt a bit embarrassed, sensing Violet was implying David was good at currying favor.

Luckily, Ralph and Ophelia soon brought Marigold over.

"Ralph, this is a gift I got for Marigold," Derek said, handing the gift to Marigold.

Marigold, who'd known Derek since childhood, smiled. "Thanks, Derek."

Ophelia laughed. "Marigold, you should take good care of Derek tonight. They've been close since childhood and are of similar age. Mrs. Jude, Derek doesn't have a girlfriend, right? I think they make a great pair."

Derek's eyes flickered, and Violet smiled faintly. "That depends on Derek and Marigold. Marriage is a lifelong happiness; they should like each other."

Marigold quickly said, "Violet, you're so wise. Derek and I are just good friends, and I already have someone I like."

"Who is it?" Violet asked curiously.

Marigold was about to answer when she saw Joseph walk in and said happily, "Look, he's here."

Everyone turned to see Joseph in a black handmade suit. His tall figure and noble aura were unmistakable.

Even though the Dixon and Jude families were prominent, Joseph's presence overshadowed them.

Despite his recent troubles, Joseph's exquisite features and elegant demeanor still captivated many women.

When David saw Joseph, a shadow crossed his eyes.

David cursed silently, 'Damn it!' He hadn't expected the elevator accident to make Marigold fall for Joseph.

"Joseph, you're here!" Marigold beamed, reaching out to hold his arm.

Joseph subtly dodged her, stepping forward to greet Ralph, Violet, and the others.

"Why is Joseph here?"

"Yeah, with his current status, how can he attend Ms. Dixon's party?"

"Joseph saved Ms. Dixon last time and used it to connect with the Dixon family."

"The once-proud Joseph has fallen to such status."

"Exactly, tonight's going to be interesting. Look, his ex-wife Cassie is here too."

The guests whispered among themselves.

Joseph heard it all, his eyes darkening. He pressed his lips together, pretending not to hear.

Ralph and Ophelia looked embarrassed, but Ralph smiled. "Joseph, welcome. I haven't had the chance to properly thank you for saving Marigold last time."

Derek raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Joseph, Marigold has a crush on you. You're really unlucky."

"Don't talk nonsense." Marigold glared at Derek and grabbed Joseph's arm. "Let's go to the other side. I'll introduce you to my friends."

Joseph glanced at Cassie, but before he could get a clear look, Marigold pulled him away.

That scene made Cassie a little angry.

Joseph had flirted with her just yesterday, and today he was at Marigold's birthday party, all touchy-feely.

He even said he wasn't familiar with Marigold.

Cassie thought Joseph was a liar.

Of course, she didn't dare show her emotions.

Everyone knew she was Joseph's ex-wife, and almost everyone was secretly watching her. She could only smile calmly and genuinely, as if she truly wished Joseph happiness.

"Cassie, let's go over there," Laura said, taking her hand. "We haven't seen each other for a few days. What have you been busy with lately?"

Cassie and Laura walked a short distance away, but Cassie didn't go far. She stopped outside the garden, discreetly watching David through the floor-to-ceiling window.

"Why are you staring at David? Don't tell me you've fallen for him and are afraid someone will steal him away," Laura teased with a smile.

"You're overthinking it." Cassie pondered for a moment, then leaned in to whisper the truth in her ear.

Laura was stunned. "That can't be true."

Cassie quickly covered her mouth and warned in a low voice, "Be careful. Don't let him sense you knew it."

Laura lowered her voice. "If your suspicion is true, and Arthur warned you to be careful, could David be a threat to you?"

"I don't know." Cassie looked complicated. "I think if David is hiding something, he might reveal another side of himself in this kind of setting. With so many influential people here, he will definitely try his best to ingratiate himself."

"Okay." Laura suddenly realized. "I'll help you keep an eye on him, and maybe let Derek test him out."

"Derek?" Cassie smiled. "You get along well with him."

"The Jude family is actually quite nice, except for Michael." Laura looked disdainful.

"Alright, I saw David flattering Derek just now. But remember, don't tell anyone else about what I said," Cassie reminded.
