Chapter 1045 No, I Can't Lose You
Cassie no longer wanted to be entangled with David. When she managed to put some distance between herself and David, she grabbed her phone, didn't even change her shoes, and quickly ran out of the villa, got in the car, and drove away.
In the rearview mirror, she saw David chasing after her.
That scene made her heart tremble.
She had never thought that she and David would fight.
David used to be such a gentle and refined man. She had been married to Joseph for so long, but they had never fought like this. Her face, arms, and shoulders hurt so much now.
David's expression just now had scared her.
The last time when David tried to rape her, he had shown a similar expression, but it was fleeting, making her think it was her imagination.
This time, she saw it clearly.
Cassie was unsure whether she had hurt him so deeply that he changed, or if he had always been this way and was just pretending before.
She was very afraid of being with David now.
Cassie had no idea that shortly after she left, David went crazy and smashed many things.
But when he saw the mess, he cursed in his mind, 'Damn it! I lost control. Now is not the time to fall out with Cassie.'
He frantically sent texts to Cassie: [Cassie, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hit you. I was just too angry. Please come back. I beg you, I can't lose you.]
Cassie saw his texts only when she arrived at Laura's parking lot.
She was speechless.
For the first time, she found David to be very fickle and extreme.
She didn't reply because she really didn't know how to face him.
When she rang the doorbell, Laura was shocked to see her swollen face. "Who did this to you?"
"Don't ask. I'll stay here for now. If I go to my dad's, he'll worry." Cassie tiredly threw herself onto the sofa. She was still wearing a coat, but the dress underneath was torn in several places. If she hadn't wrapped herself in the coat, she would have been exposed.
She stared blankly at the ceiling, her eyes red.
She didn't know why her marriage with David had turned out this way. In the beginning, she had wanted to work on this marriage seriously, but it seemed that since Joseph took her to the island, everything changed.
After coming back, every time she faced David, she felt powerless and wanted to escape.
"Was it David who did this?" Laura knew she had gone home with David and became furious when she realized. "Did he find out about you and Joseph in the bathroom?"
"Ralph told him," Cassie hugged her knees and said softly.
"He believes whatever Ralph says? Ralph has no evidence. Don't you know how to lie?" Laura said in surprise, "You didn't lie, did you?"
"I can't lie to him about this," Cassie murmured, "Laura, he called me cheap, and honestly, I feel pretty cheap, too."
"Don't say that. After all, Joseph is your ex-husband. You're married to David, but you haven't done it with him. Deep down, you might still be used to Joseph. People have their preferences," Laura comforted her.
"Stop comforting me." Cassie felt a bit lost.
Although she was forced by Joseph on the island before, tonight she was voluntary. As she saw Joseph in such pain, she lost control of herself and acted on instinct.
Maybe in this lifetime, she had been trapped by Joseph..
"Alright, I won't say anymore. I think the rift between you and David is permanent. I firmly oppose men who commit domestic violence. You decide for yourself," Laura said, "David usually seems gentle, but suddenly showing this side is quite scary. And tonight, I heard from Derek that David was trying to get close to him, hinting that there would be many benefits if they cooperated in the future. David's a businessman. What benefits could there be other than money?"
Cassie was stunned. She just wanted Derek to keep an eye on things, but it turned out David really had issues.
David's actions were inappropriate, practically skirting the edge of the law.
"Anyway, David is not simple. Derek said he definitely has big ambitions," Laura remarked.
All night, Cassie barely slept because her face hurt and her mind was in turmoil.
The next day, she was afraid David would come to the office to find her, so she didn't dare go to work and stayed at Laura's.
During this time, Joseph sent her several texts, but she didn't reply.
She wanted to stay quiet for a few days.
Unfortunately, the next day, the kindergarten teacher called her, "Is this Sophia's mom? This afternoon, Mr. Foster came to pick up Oliver. He said he was your husband, but Mr. Hernandez also came and said Oliver was his child. I remember the last time you came with Mr. Hernandez to change the father's name on the records. Now they're arguing at the kindergarten. Could you please come over?"
Cassie felt a headache coming on. "I'm sorry, I'll be right there."
She quickly put on a mask and drove to the kindergarten.
Fortunately, it was close; it only took about ten minutes.
Luckily, there weren't many parents picking up their kids now, but Joseph and David's tall and imposing figures still drew a lot of attention.
Oliver and Sophia were standing by the door. Sophia looked helpless, and Oliver had a frosty expression.
"Joseph, I'm warning you one last time. Oliver is my child. You have no right to take him," David said angrily.
"Oliver is Cassie and my biological child. The father's name on the kindergarten records is mine, and Cassie agreed to it," Joseph said coldly, "David, you like to treat other people's children as your own, but I have no interest in letting my son call someone else dad."
David was furious. He didn't expect Cassie to let Oliver recognize Joseph as his father. He thought to himself, 'What else had Cassie done behind his back?'
"Oliver, have you forgotten how Joseph abandoned you and your mom before?" David turned his anger towards Oliver. "Didn't you say you would never forgive him?"
Oliver didn't know how to respond, his face blushing.
When Sophia saw Cassie, she cried out, "Mommy, you're finally here."
She ran into Cassie's arms.
Oliver also looked at Cassie with tears.
Cassie looked at David with a complicated expression. "David, can you not say these things to them?"
