Chapter 1425 It's Impossible Between Her and You
"Something just popped into my head," he murmured. "I think I might actually be getting my memory back."
Cassie felt a wave of anxiety wash over her. She had almost given up hope that Joseph would ever remember, and she had no idea how he'd react if he did. "Even if you do remember, you can't let Megan off the hook."
"Don't worry, I won't make that mistake again," Joseph replied, his voice icy. "No matter what, things with Michael can never go back to how they were. He's not a bad guy, but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. When he protects Megan, he doesn't think about how much it hurts everyone else. It's really disappointing."
Cassie was taken aback for a moment before saying, "Maybe you're thinking like Laura now, but Laura's got it even worse. She's Michael's wife, after all. They even had a kid together, but she's still not as important to him as Megan."
"Michael's a complete fool," Joseph said flatly. "I support Laura's decision to divorce him. There's no point wasting time on someone like that."
Cassie nodded, feeling a surge of anger.
Laura was one of Cassie's closest friends. Sure, Laura could be a bit naive sometimes, but she was younger, prettier, and kinder than Megan.
Michael was just a total idiot.
"So, do you think if you tell Eric and the others about this, Eric will kick Michael out again? That would be awesome." Cassie asked.
Joseph gave her a complicated look. "That's not gonna happen. Back then, Michael was seen as useless by the Jude Family. Now, they think he's valuable."
Cassie was at a loss for words.
She felt even more frustrated.
Cassie admitted she had her own selfish reasons. She just wanted to see Michael lose everything again because of Megan, and then come crawling back to Laura, begging for forgiveness.
But reality is reality.
The Jude Mansion.
When Michael walked in, he saw everyone was already there.
Eric sat at the head of the table, with Carl and his wife on one side and James and Caroline on the other. Further down were Derek, Julia, and Aaron.
Michael felt a heavy weight in his chest. This scene reminded him of when they had kicked him out of the Jude Family before.
Eric smashed a cup on the spot, and the glass shards grazed Michael's pants.
"Kneel," Eric ordered angrily.
Michael carefully avoided the glass on the ground and knelt down.
Seeing this, Eric got even angrier. He walked up and kicked Michael in the chest. "You idiot. I thought you had really changed. I gave you chances and supported you, and you secretly took Megan in again. How could you do this to Laura and Maeve?"
James said, disappointed, "No one in the Jude Family has ever had a mistress. But Maeve isn't even a hundred days old, and you hide Megan outside. Have you thought about Laura's feelings?"
"There's nothing between Megan and me. I just felt sorry for her because she has no one to rely on. I planned to send her away in two weeks," Michael said, clutching his aching chest. "I won't do anything to betray Laura."
"Feel sorry for her?" Carl scoffed. "Megan hurt Declan's wife and messed with your friends, and you still feel sorry for her?"
"There’s no proof. Plus, Megan told me David forced her. She’s got whip marks all over from him. She’s already been through a lot," Michael shot back. "Even if you’re the president, you can’t just arrest someone without evidence."
"You," Carl pointed at him, eyes blazing with anger. "You’re unbelievably foolish."
"So, you’re not gonna hand over Megan?" Eric asked, his gaze intense.
"I said I’d send her away in two weeks," Michael insisted.
"Are you really gonna go against the whole family for Megan again?" James was visibly upset. "Michael, we value you. Is Megan worth it?"
"It’s not about worth. I haven’t done anything to betray you or Laura. Why can’t you understand that?" Michael felt a wave of disappointment. "Others might not get it, but you’re my family. Besides, if it weren’t for Megan’s help, I wouldn’t have made it back to the Jude Family. Megan didn’t want you to lose me as a son."
Caroline laughed bitterly, "So, should I thank her?"
Michael pressed his lips together. "No need. I’ll give her money. That’s all I can do for her."
"You’re incredibly foolish," Eric said, slamming his cane down in anger.
"Don’t worry. I’ll handle my personal stuff and do my job well," Michael suddenly said. "The project you gave me is making great progress. Aaron must’ve told you that Yugrot is planning to partner with us on a $300 billion project."
Eric was speechless, looking at Michael with mixed emotions.
Michael’s personal life was a mess to Eric, but he was undeniably good at business.
After a long pause, Eric said weakly, "I hope you keep your word. I’ll give you two weeks to send Megan away. Don’t break Laura’s heart."
"Thank you." Michael was about to stand up, feeling relieved.
"Kneel," Eric barked, pounding his cane as he walked away.
The rest of the Jude Family left with grim faces, except for Derek, who lingered and stopped in front of Michael. "Do you really think you’ve done nothing wrong and can face your conscience and Laura?"
"Of course," Michael replied without hesitation. "Derek, I know you like Laura, but give it up. It’s never gonna happen between you two."
"I really feel sorry for Laura." Derek shook his head slightly. He couldn’t make someone see reason if they refused, so he walked away.
That night, Derek, Carl, and Violet were sitting in a bulletproof car heading back to the Presidential Palace.
Violet rubbed her temples. "Why can’t Michael see through it? Megan isn’t a simple woman. She won’t leave easily. Why did she come back suddenly? Isn’t it because she’s after Michael’s current status? You need to keep a close eye on Michael for the next two weeks. Don’t let Megan get pregnant with Michael’s child."
Derek’s eyes were full of sarcasm. "Michael’s heart is already with Megan. As soon as Megan feels unwell, Michael will run to her immediately."
