Chapter 170
"What once was foreign had become familiar, her body almost instinctively adapting to his kisses. Today, however, her heart raced more fiercely, sweetly.
Previously, she'd found his sharp tongue annoying, but in truth, he'd helped her a lot.
The kiss was eventually broken by the sound of her rumbling stomach.
She fled from his embrace, scrambling into the kitchen to hunt for something to eat.
Joseph chuckled as he watched her scurry away.

After breakfast, Cassie reached out to Mr. Willow, informing him that the blueprints were ready.
Mr. Willow mentioned he was out on business during the day but suggested they meet at the Soundwave Lounge that evening, as his boss would be present too. It was an opportune time for a meeting.
She had frequented such social events before when dealing with clients.
Although reluctant, she agreed.
At eight in the evening, she knocked on the private room door and entered to find an opulent, spacious interior.
What surprised her was the sight of Olivia Brooks in the center, wrapped in a luxurious purple coat, with Mr. Willow carefully pouring her a drink at her side.
Cassie's instincts screamed that something was off. She whirled around to leave, only to find two burly men barging in, pinning her down with an iron grip that she couldn't shake off. Her blueprints cascaded to the floor in a flurried mess.
""Mr. Willow, so you've been playing me all along,"" she accused, with newfound clarity fueling her glare. ""I get it now—the incidents at the construction site were all staged by you, weren't they?""
Mr. Willow cast an uneasy glance at Olivia Brooks. He had only become aware of the underhanded dealings himself; after all, he was just an employee. He’d climbed his way up to his current status within Peace Group, and he wasn't about to cross Olivia Brooks for Mason Stone and risk his future prospects.
""You catch on quick, pity though..."" Olivia Brooks sauntered closer, cradling her teacup. She was no longer the feigned damsel in distress but exuded a brazen, venomous confidence.
Realization hit Cassie hard; this was the true face of Olivia Brooks. But why the air of triumph? The Brooks family had already sold Height Company and tarnished their name; even Madison’s elite circles had turned their backs on them. How could she still be gloating?
""Are you wondering why Mr. Willow answers to me?"" Olivia Brooks cooed, her fingers perniciously lifting Cassie's chin. ""You think the lawsuit was the end of the Brooks in Madison? You're mistaken. Without Height Company, I stand taller than ever.""
""What are you implying?"" Cassie was utterly bewildered.
""With all due respect,"" Mr. Willow interjected with a bow, ""Miss Brooks is now the general manager of Peace Group's new development. Mrs. Jiang holds a major share in the company, and by the year's end, she's likely to become Peace Group's new chairperson. The company's destiny is in Miss Brooks's hands.""
""That's impossible."" Cassie was stunned. ""I've never heard my parents mention such significant shares in Peace Group held by the Brooks family.""
""Why would they tell you? They never liked you. You were always an outsider,"" Olivia sneered, her voice dripping with scorn. ""Did you never question why they detested you so much, to the point of wishing you were dead?""
Cassie looked up at her defiantly, a fierce gaze meeting the fabricated sympathy.
""You're not their real daughter,"" Olivia said with a mock sigh of sympathy. ""They adopted you from an orphanage after I was taken. You were just an abandoned infant, unwanted by your own birth parents.""
