Chapter 1284: She died so early, she was so fortunate.
"Get screwed over?"
Cassie scoffed, "If anyone's gonna get screwed over, it's you two clowns. First, you offed your own mom, and then for cash and perks, you couldn't even own up to your own kid, so you buried the truth. Looks like prison didn't make you reflect; it just made you worse."
Robert's face went beet red. Cassie's words hit him hard, but he was too deep in to back out now.
"Enough with the BS. What do you mean we didn't dare to acknowledge our own daughter? You are my flesh and blood. And about killing my mom, I was framed. Didn't you see the cops let us out?"
Cassie looked at him, totally let down. "When I visited you in the slammer, I thought you had changed. Guess I was wrong."
"We're telling the truth," Helen butted in, all emotional and even started bawling. "You heartless brat, we're your real parents, and you don't even recognize us. Sure, we ain't got the dough like Isabella and Aiden, but you can't ditch your own folks for some bling. And you even got your own cousin killed. You're cold-hearted."
"Really? I didn't even know you two were my real parents." Cassie said, dripping with sarcasm, "Three years ago in Silverwood, you kept calling Olivia your real daughter and even tried to pawn my boyfriend off to her. Plus, after I busted my butt at Height Company for years, you kicked me out, locked me in a dark room, fed me crap, and left me starving and freezing. Great way to treat your real daughter."
Helen hesitated for a sec, and Robert shamelessly said, "I did all that to teach you a lesson 'cause you wouldn't listen to us."
Not just Cassie, even Nathaniel standing nearby was speechless.
These two were definitely Olivia's parents.
"How about we do a DNA test?" Cassie raised an eyebrow. "If you are my real parents, I'll totally respect you from now on."
"Get lost. Everyone knows you got connections in Whisperlyn City. You'd just mess with the test results." Helen spat.
"Alright," Cassie nodded, all serious. "Since I'm your real daughter, Mom and Dad, don't hate on me. Olivia's dead, right? She wasn't married and had no kids. The shares of the Hernandez Group should go to you. You're getting old and can't handle it. Since I'm your only daughter, let me take over the Hernandez Group and take good care of you."
Cassie switched gears so fast that not only Nathaniel was stunned, but even Robert and Helen were floored.
Once Helen realized what she said, she snapped, "In your dreams. What Olivia left us has nothing to do with you."
"Mom and Dad, you're being too harsh. Am I not your only real daughter?" Cassie looked all innocent. "Olivia was lost since childhood and wasn't your real daughter. Our family should stick together."
"Stop dreaming."
Helen felt sick to her stomach.
Of course, Cassie wasn't her real daughter, but she couldn't say it out loud. If Cassie recorded it and told Isabella, it would be a mess.
But Cassie didn't play by the rules.
"Mom and Dad, you guys are way too harsh on me. Makes me wonder if I'm really yours," Cassie smirked.
"Of course, you are," Robert huffed. "But we ain't giving you any of Olivia's stuff."
"Since you're so sure I'm your daughter, I've decided to be a good kid," Cassie sighed. "Don't worry, as your daughter, I'll take good care of the Hernandez Group for you."
She pulled out her phone and ended the recording right in front of them, grinning. "Don't sweat it. With this proof, if anything happens to you, I'll handle your funeral. And if the Hernandez Group shares are yours, I'll manage them well."
The room went dead silent, and Robert and Helen's faces twisted with rage.
"Cassie, this is impossible," Helen fumed. "If anything happens to us, it'll be your doing."
"Don't be so paranoid, okay?" Cassie shrugged, looking all innocent. "Since I'm here, let me see Olivia. Didn't know she kicked the bucket so soon. How lucky."
Nathaniel stayed quiet, wondering if he was hearing things right.
"Shut up," Robert snapped, trying to slap Cassie.
"Dad, what are you doing?" Cassie caught his wrist.
Robert, a big guy, couldn't yank his hand free no matter how hard he tried.
Cassie sighed. "I'm just being real. Olivia did a ton of bad stuff. Who knows how many guys she hooked up with, how many people she hurt, and how many she conned. Dying like this is too easy. I thought she'd at least get tortured first, or rot in prison for decades, then off herself 'cause she couldn't take it. Was I wrong to say she was lucky?"
"You did bad stuff too. Don't think I don't know your people pushed Olivia out the window," Helen spat, her face twisted with anger.
Nathaniel stepped in, blocking her from getting close to Cassie.
Cassie let go of Robert and walked over to the body, lifting the white cloth.
"Stop," Robert and Helen's eyes went red with panic. Their only daughter was dead, and now she was being humiliated.
"Relax, I won't mess with her body. Just wanna make sure it's really Olivia, not another fake death."
Cassie put on gloves and pinched her face hard to check for a mask. She also checked her wounds. The back of her head was busted, and the staff had stitched it up.
She was sure Olivia was really dead.
But like she said, Olivia died too easily.
After checking, Cassie took off her gloves, tossed them at Helen's face, and smiled brightly. "Mom, she's really dead. Spend some time with her. I won't bother you."
"Go to hell. Just wait, we'll avenge Olivia," Helen was so mad she almost lost it. She wanted to kill Cassie right there, but Nathaniel was in the way.
"Mom, is it necessary? I'm your real daughter, not Olivia. Why get worked up over someone who doesn't matter?" Cassie smiled sweetly, looking like she didn't care. "Nathaniel, stay here with my folks. After the funeral, take them to the apartment under my name and treat them well."
With that, she walked out, all elegant.
