Chapter 924 Not Something You Can Covet

"Whether it was traffic or you deliberately dawdling, you know it well enough," Julia said coldly. "You want me to spare the Ocean Blue group, yet you show no respect to the Miller family and us. I think you haven't figured out your situation."

With that, Julia ended the call.

Upon returning to the private room, no one inquired about when Michael would arrive. However, just ten minutes later, Michael burst into the room, panting heavily. His handsome face was flushed from running two miles in just a few minutes, and he couldn't speak for quite a while.

James smiled and said, "Luke, now you can rest assured. Michael is indeed sincere. Look at him; he's exhausted himself running over here."

Luke glanced at Michael without thinking much of him. Today, Michael wore jeans and a floral shirt. Though he was good-looking, a man didn't need to be that pretty.

Benjamin was the same way—handsome but lacking in character. Why did his daughter always encounter such men?

Fortunately, Laura didn't intend to marry him for real.

"Michael, they are Laura's parents," James introduced. "Greet them quickly."

"Hello," Michael said stiffly before attempting to sit down.

Aaron immediately pulled the chair away. "Michael, why don't you sit over there with Mrs. Jude?"

Mrs. Jude...

Michael's mouth twitched, and Laura was equally uncomfortable. "You can just call me Laura. We're probably around the same age."

"That's not acceptable. Our Jude family values seniority. Even if you're younger than me, I have to call you Mrs. Jude," Aaron said with a grin. "Mrs. Jude, let's add each other on WhatsApp."

Laura found Aaron to be much more approachable than Michael. After taking out her phone and adding Aaron as her friend, Caroline also smiled warmly. "Laura, let me add you on WhatsApp. Let's keep in touch. Your parents are in Madison, so consider the Jude family your own home from now on."

"Alright," Laura answered.

After Laura added the Jude family members on WhatsApp, Caroline took out a brocade box and handed it over. "Since it's an engagement, there must be an engagement gift. This is for you."

Laura opened it to find a jewelry necklace with a very novel design. Michael was startled; his mother had spent five million on this at an auction years ago, intending to give it to his future wife. He hadn't expected her to give it to Laura now.

"Mom!" Michael called out.

"Shut up," Caroline warned with a glare.

Laura was a bit stunned, not understanding these things. But Rose immediately recognized it. "This is too valuable. It must be worth at least a million."

"More than that. I promised before that if Laura marries into the Jude family, I would give her ten percent of the Jude Group's shares," Eric said solemnly. "Accept it. We won't let Laura be wronged."

The Miller family was stunned. Luke was especially surprised. The Jude's family was indeed good, but he didn't like Michael.

After dinner, Eric arranged, "Michael, take Rose and Luke to the airport. They're flying back to Madison tonight."

Michael nodded in agreement.

As he went to fetch the car, Luke remarked, "Apart from Michael's terrible personality, the rest of the Jude family is quite nice. They don't have that arrogance typical of wealthy families."

"Dad, you're absolutely right." Laura nodded in agreement.

Rose, however, felt a bit regretful. "Actually, Aaron is quite good. Why isn't he the one engaged to you?"

Soon, Michael drove the car over. He barely spoke to Luke and Rose, while Laura kept chatting and acting coquettishly with her parents. It was evident that the Miller family doted on Laura, and their family values seemed pretty good. Unlike some small-town families who, upon hearing that he was from the Jude family, would go out of their way to curry favor with him.

After Luke and Rose boarded the plane, only Laura and Michael were left.

Michael said directly, "I have no choice but to agree to this engagement for now. Don't get any ideas; I will never like you or be responsible for you. By the way, give me back the jewelry necklace my mom gave you."

Laura was stunned. She had known he was a philanderer, but men as unfaithful as him were rare.

"Hurry up and give it to me," Michael said, feeling embarrassed under her gaze. But he had no choice; he couldn't hurt Megan. "I need to give it to Megan."

Laura thought, "Does your mom know? Wouldn't she be furious with you?"

"You don't intend to keep it, do you?" Michael glared at her. "Laura, this necklace is as precious as I am.. It's not something you can covet."

"This necklace... is indeed quite valuable," Laura said, taking it out and waving it in front of him. "But you? Forget it. Even though you're from the Jude family, you have no status and no inheritance rights. Even the Ocean Blue group would have declined in the past two years if I hadn't given you the formula."

"You!" Michael's face turned red with anger. He was such an outstanding person but being told he was worthless.

"You should feel ashamed for living the way you do," Laura said, taking out her phone to make a call.

Michael didn't know what she was up to until he heard Laura sweetly say, "Caroline." Then he realized she was calling his mom.

"Laura, give me the phone." Michael reached out to grab it.

"Michael, try hitting me today if you dare," Laura shouted while dodging. "Caroline, you give me the jewelry necklace, but Michael wants to take it back. He says it's not something I can covet and wants to give it to Megan."

"Mom, I didn't. Don't listen to her nonsense." Michael was in a panic that he grabbed Laura and took her phone, only to realize she had dialed a Verizon number.

Laura burst into laughter. "Weren't you quite arrogant just now? Weren't you going to give it to Megan?"

"Laura, you tricked me." Michael was furious.

He wanted to teach Laura a lesson but suddenly realized he was still holding her tightly. In his anger, he pushed her away forcefully.

"I need to go home and take a shower. Being hugged by someone like you makes me afraid of getting sick," Laura said with a look of disgust as she walked out of the airport.

"You're sick," Michael shouted angrily.

"You might not know." Laura turned back with a complicated look. "Cassie ran to the hospital for a check-up after spending a night with Joseph. She was afraid of getting infected because Joseph had been with Megan, and Megan had slept with Rex countless times. I don't need to tell you about Rex, do I? He does drugs and sleeps with all sorts of women. Who knows if he's infected? Why do you think Joseph never touched Megan? He had his concerns, too."
