Chapter 1202 Crisis
"Me?" Laura looked confused. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I think the same people who got Benjamin out of jail are dealing with the Hernandez Group," Cassie said, sounding complicated. "Both things happened recently and are linked to the president's office."
"So, because I upset Benjamin, they went after the Hernandez Group? And because you're my friend and Joseph is your boyfriend?" Laura was getting more puzzled.
"No, I think it's Isla," Cassie speculated, "We know the Hayes family, especially Bryan and Abigail, who gave up on Benjamin. But he got out of prison suddenly, so someone close to him must've helped. That could be Isla."
"Isla?" Laura was shocked. "Can she pull that off? I heard she's under a lot of pressure, and the Tarro family is almost bankrupt."
"Remember what happened three years ago?" Cassie reminded her. "When I had you do a paternity test for the fake Joyce and Robert at Silverwood, Isla saw it. Not long after, Olivia escaped."
Laura had a realization. "You think Olivia helped Isla?"
"Remember when my mom's grave was destroyed, and we got that warning letter from Olivia? She might have found new allies abroad. She seems confident she can take me down," Cassie said worriedly. "She even got Robert and Helen out of jail easily, and Spencer and Peter were harmed too."
Laura found it hard to believe. "So, you think Olivia's allies can influence the president's office?"
"I don't want to think that," Cassie said heavily.
"If it's true, Olivia's back for revenge. If she gains power, she won't spare us," Laura said, frustrated. "It's so unfair. She hasn't been punished yet."
"You have the Jude family's protection, so you should be fine," Cassie comforted her. "Besides, I'm her main target. If she's behind this, the next target after the Hernandez Group will be the Peace Group."
"Why not go after you first?" Laura asked.
"Because I'm the sole shareholder of the Peace Group. It's harder to target me directly. Joseph is my support; if they take him out first, they can come after me without worries," Cassie explained calmly.
Laura grew more impressed as she listened.
She had to admit, Cassie had become more composed after everything she'd been through.
"Do you want me to start with Benjamin?" Laura finally understood.
Cassie nodded. "Joseph and I are out in the open, while the person behind this is in the shadows. We know nothing about this force. It's big, and we can't tackle it head-on. We need to expose them first and then negotiate. I think Olivia might have teamed up with some bigwigs abroad. Such a person wouldn't lose their head over love; we might resolve this through a trade of interests."
Laura felt stuck. "How am I supposed to start with Benjamin?"
"He might have feelings for you," Cassie said, sounding both helpless and apologetic. "If he has feelings, he would feel guilt."
Laura laughed and patted her belly. "I'm married and pregnant now. Plus, don't forget, he tried to ruin me with that video."
"I think Isla pushed him to do that," Cassie said. "Benjamin's a bit like Arthur, but not as ruthless in business. He's always played it safe and never looked for shortcuts. He's just indecisive in love and easily misled."
Laura didn't argue; she agreed.
"Look, Arthur eventually came around," Cassie continued.
"That's because Olivia never loved Arthur; she loved his power. When he lost it, she ditched him. Isla truly loves Benjamin," Laura said softly. "If it weren't for love, she would have given up on him. I think Benjamin will be even more grateful to Isla after getting out of prison."
"Remember, we found out a guy who smeared Carl came from the Hayes Group. If it wasn't Benjamin, it was Isla. Benjamin's been in prison for over a month; he should have figured things out by now. He's not stupid," Cassie reminded her.
Laura's eyes lit up. "Cassie, you're getting more cunning."
"If I weren't, I'd be dead by now, especially after dealing with David," Cassie sighed.
"Alright, I'll help you," Laura said, patting her shoulder.
"Talk to Michael about it; he still cares about his reputation," Cassie suggested.
"He doesn't like me, so he won't care," Laura said casually.
Cassie looked at her, a bit speechless.
Laura's thoughts were always so straightforward.
They reached the front door and found Michael and Joseph waiting.
"What were you two talking about? More than us," Michael frowned.
"Don't women always talk more than men?" Cassie patted Laura's shoulder, nodded, and left with Joseph.
Laura watched them thoughtfully.
"What are you thinking about? Let's go back," Michael said, taking her hand and walking next door.
After they got married, the Jude family gave them a villa next door, just a short walk away.
Laura was lost in thought until they reached the villa's entrance. She realized he was holding her hand and immediately shook it off. "Michael, don't think you can take advantage of me."
"I'm just worried you'll fall because you're pregnant. Don't be ungrateful," Michael said, frustrated. He was also thinking about the Hernandez Group and had no intention of taking advantage of her. He had just instinctively held her hand.
"I can walk just fine, and even if I'm pregnant for ten months, I won't need your help," Laura said, walking into the villa proudly.
