Chapter 1274: The Son You Gave Birth to Really Isn't That Great

"How can you protect me? You're just as young as I am," Sophia sniffled, rolling her eyes.

"I'll start running and practicing martial arts every morning from now on," Oliver said, all serious.

He wanted to protect his sister, his mom, and his dad.

In the past, he had been too chill. It was only after this mess that Oliver realized how useless he had been.

He always talked big about protecting everyone, but he never actually did it.

"Oliver, don't stress yourself out," Cassie said, worried as she saw Oliver's determined face.

"Mom, please don't say that. Without pressure, there's no motivation. I used to live too easy. Now that Dad's in trouble, you're carrying everything at home. I'll work hard to grow up and help you out," Oliver said, lifting his cool little face.

Cassie was momentarily stunned. Besides feeling warmth in her heart, she also felt a twinge of pain.

It was good that the kid understood to care for his parents, but Oliver was only over three years old. He was supposed to be carefree at this age, but she couldn't give him that life.

"Oliver, do what you can. Mom doesn't want you to be too tired," Cassie said softly. "And Olivia's already been locked up, so she can't cause any trouble for now."

"Olivia's been locked up?" Mabel asked excitedly. "Did the cops find evidence that she was behind the kidnapping?"

"Not yet," Cassie shook her head. "Declan is holding her. The cops caught the kidnappers, but I bet they'll say Isabella was behind it."

Cameron frowned, "Was Isabella involved?"

"Don't talk nonsense," Mabel glared at him. "After all, she's Cassie's mom. How could she do such a thing?"

"She might have been involved," Cassie interrupted Mabel, speaking expressionlessly. "She knew about it and approved it."

Mabel fell silent, but a wave of anger rose in her heart. They were all strong women in business, and she was usually cold and ruthless to her subordinates, but she would never condone kidnapping a child.

"Mom, we will never acknowledge her as our grandmother, never," Oliver suddenly said firmly.

"I don't want to either," Sophia echoed.

"Alright, you don't have to acknowledge her, and I won't either," Cassie said. She had completely lost any illusions about the word "mom". "Are you hungry? I'll eat with you."

Just as she finished speaking, Nathaniel suddenly called.

"Ms. Brooks, I heard Sophia has been rescued."

"Yeah, she's fine now," Cassie replied. "How's Joseph?"

Nathaniel was silent for two seconds before saying, "Not good. He won't talk to me, won't eat, and doesn't even want candy or cartoons."

Cassie felt a bit of a headache. She had planned to put the kids to bed before going over.

"I'll come over in a while. Keep an eye on Joseph and don't let him run around."

After hanging up, Oliver and Sophia both looked at her.

"Mom, go find Dad. I'll stay with Sophia," Oliver said sensibly.

"Alright, you go. Dad is only two years old now, even younger than me," Sophia said. She was probably feeling down too, but there was nothing she could do. Her dad needed Cassie more than she did.

"Go ahead, we'll watch them," Mabel said and picked up Sophia. "Grandma will sleep with you tonight."

Sophia pouted and asked pitifully, "Will Grandpa sleep with me too?"

Mabel was silent.

Cameron looked like he wanted to disappear. The two of them, whose combined age was nearly a hundred, couldn't help but blush.

Cassie almost burst out laughing but held it in. She was actually looking forward to these two making up.

"Sophia, that's not possible," Mabel gently refused.

"Why not? My friend at school sometimes sleeps with her grandparents," Sophia said confidently.

"Your grandma and I are divorced," Cameron explained in a low voice.

"But my dad and mommy are divorced too, and they still sleep together every day," Sophia said innocently.

Cassie, who was suddenly mentioned, felt very awkward.

"Um, I'll leave now," Cassie said and waved her hand, eager to leave.

As for Sophia's topic, she left it to Mabel and Cameron to handle.

Cassie kissed the two kids and ran off.

Cameron and Mabel exchanged a rare look of mutual understanding. They wanted to run too, but they couldn't.

With their son in trouble, taking care of their grandchildren was their responsibility.

"Okay? Let's all sleep together," Sophia said. She held her grandparents' hands and looked sad. "I really want my parents to be with me, but they don't have time."

Sophia looked like she was about to cry.

Mabel's heart ached, and she quickly said, "Oliver, comfort Sophia."

"Grandma, I didn't make her cry," Oliver said. "Grandma, your son really isn't that great. First, he got tricked by a woman and divorced my mommy. Then, after finally getting back together, he got schemed against again, and now his IQ is like a two-year-old's baby. He even took my mommy away. I thought I'd have my parents back, but now it's like I don't even have my mommy."

Cameron and Mabel felt even more embarrassed by Oliver's words.

Oliver wasn't wrong.

Mabel didn't want to talk anymore. She looked at Cameron, "You say something."

Cameron looked complicated. What could he say? Joseph was indeed out of line. He got tricked by Megan again and again, and Cassie gave up time with the kids to be with him.

In the end, it was the two kids who were pitiful.

But sleeping together with Mabel...

Cameron was really conflicted. Since he had left Madison in disgrace, his hatred for her had long surpassed his love.

Over the years, it wasn't that no women had thrown themselves at him, but he was focused on revenge and had no other thoughts.

After coming back and getting his revenge, he realized that Mabel had also been deceived by Marcus back then. He couldn't take revenge on Mabel anymore.

But getting back together? He hadn't thought about it.

However, so much had happened recently. Because of their son and grandchildren, his relationship with the Hernandez family had been closer.

"Alright, Grandpa and Grandma will stay with you," Cameron suddenly said after a long time.

Mabel looked back at him in shock.

In the moonlight, although Cameron had wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, he had aged well. His handsome features had become more mature and restrained with time. His tall and straight figure was like a fine wine, more fragrant with age.

Mabel, despite being in her fifties, felt her heart skipped a beat like it did when she was young.

When they got married, she had been attracted to Cameron. It was actually easy to rekindle that feeling.
