Chapter 1667 Openly Together
Upon hearing this, Carl and Derek both fell silent.
After a long while, Carl finally said in a low, helpless voice, "Let's do as your mom said. I'll talk to James about it. I think they'll agree. Caroline said as long as Michael is alive, that's enough."
Derek didn't say anything more, but he felt a bit melancholic and heavy-hearted.
It's okay to be bad, but you need to have limits.
Michael had no limits to his badness, so this was his fate.
5 PM.
Derek drove to find Laura.
Now, he could finally openly enter the Miller family home as Laura's boyfriend.
On the way, he bought a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
When he arrived at the Miller family yard, Laura, who had been waiting all day, immediately opened the door and ran out upon hearing the car.
Derek stood against the light, wearing a white hoodie and blue jeans. His tall and straight figure cast a long shadow on the grass, and his handsome features were softened by the orange sunset.
He held a beautiful bouquet of pink, white, and yellow flowers.
Derek's youthful appearance made him look like he had just graduated from college.
Looking at him, Laura felt as sweet as if she had eaten honey.
Derek was now her legitimate boyfriend, different from before; it was public, and everyone supported it.
Now, the internet was full of comments about how well-matched they were.
Derek's gentle gaze reflected her image. She was wearing pink loungewear, her cheeks were rosy, her nose was delicate, and her beautiful big eyes sparkled with bright light.
This was the woman he loved.
From now on, he wanted to be good to her.
Derek knew that everything today had not come easily.
Holding the flowers solemnly, he walked over step by step, a gentle smile on his handsome face. "Have you been waiting for me for a long time?"
"Who waited for you for a long time? I've been busy looking at my phone all day."
Derek smiled slightly and placed the flowers in her arms. "These are for you."
Laura avoided his intense gaze and lowered her head to smell the flowers.
They were very fragrant.
"Derek, come on in, don't just stand at the door."
Rose's voice suddenly came from inside.
Derek quickly walked in.
In the living room, Luke, Rose, and Elliott were all there. Luke looked quite gentle, while Elliott had a serious face, cold and expressionless.
Derek didn't take it too seriously; after all, Elliott always looked like this, and he had never seen Elliott smile.
"Luke, Rose, I'm sorry for causing you so much trouble these past few days," Derek apologized as soon as he entered. "But I really, really love Laura. My parents no longer oppose us, and I hope you can allow Laura and me to be together."
Luke deliberately snorted, "Even if we didn't agree, you two would still be together, right? As soon as Laura heard the car, she ran out. She's been waiting for you all day."
Laura blushed and glared at her father in annoyance, stomping her foot. "Dad, I was just touched. He even quit his job for me."
"Derek, did you really quit your job?" Rose asked regretfully. "It was such a good job."
"The job was good, but I'm still too young. I want to take some time to learn more and get my PhD," Derek explained with a smile. "And I'll have more time to spend with Laura and Maeve. Before, even though we were dating, we were so busy that it was hard to see each other once a week."
Luke nodded, "That's good. Young people should study more, but you can't just focus on romance. Since you've decided to be together, cherish it. It's not easy to get to this point."
"I will. I love Laura very much."
As Derek spoke, he tightly held Laura's hand.
In front of her parents, Laura's face turned red, but she didn't pull away. She felt as sweet as if she had eaten honey.
Seeing the two of them like this, Luke and Rose exchanged a helpless glance. It was clear that Laura truly liked Derek. When Laura was married to Michael, they had never seen her like this.
Luke and Rose could understand. Derek was indeed excellent, and it was rare to see such courage to be with Laura.
Besides, they were just dating, so Luke and Rose didn't need to think too much.
"How is Michael?" Elliott, who had been silent, suddenly asked. "He won't cause any more trouble, will he? And he publicly smeared my sister's name. The Jude family should explain."
Hearing this, even Laura looked at Derek intently.
Derek pondered for a moment. "What he did this time is quite complicated and will be dealt with separately. I can assure you that he will never have the chance to smear anyone again."
Hearing Derek say this, the Miller family, being smart people, understood.
Luke nodded, "Michael is too vicious. If we let him off easily, it would give others the impression that the Presidential Palace can be easily provoked."
"I don't understand much about that, but Michael has hurt Laura repeatedly, and I don't want to see him get away with it," Rose said angrily. "Because of this, I don't want to deal with James and his family anymore. I just can't like them."
Hearing this, Derek instinctively glanced at Elliott.
Elliott's body tensed, and he asked expressionlessly, "Why are you looking at me?"
Derek was speechless. Why am I looking at you? Don't you know?
Well, Julia was quite pitiful. She hadn't won Elliott back, and now Rose didn't like her either.
"Rose, actually, James and his family didn't know about the things Michael did. A few days ago, James even locked Michael in the memorial hall, but Michael escaped on his own," Derek said. "Today, it was Julia who caught him and brought him back. They know this incident caused great harm to Laura and are leaving it to us to handle."
"Derek, I understand what you mean. We're reasonable people, but it's impossible for me not to feel uncomfortable. Michael turned out this way partly because of his parents' upbringing, right? And I can't help but feel uneasy. Why did they insist on Laura marrying Michael back then?"
Rose sighed. "Maeve is one thing; she's grown up and can make her own decisions. But we still have Laura, and we don't want to deal with that family anymore."
Elliott lowered his eyes, his cold face revealing no emotion.
