Chapter 23 Good cooking skills
Helen shouted, "Then never come back! I don't have a daughter like you!"
Cassie took a deep breath. "Do you even care about me? Before Olivia came back, no matter how hard I tried, you always thought I was inferior. Now that she's back, all you do is criticize me. Am I really your daughter?"
After pouring out her heart, she hung up, tears streaming down her face.
She didn't want to return to the Brooks family anymore.
She composed herself and went to a pet store to ask about caring for a cat's stomach.
The pet store owner had never heard of such a thing and ended up giving her a book called "Cat Pregnancy Recipes."
"Pregnancy recipes are the most nutritious. If you follow the recipes in this book, your cat will be fine," the owner said.
Cassie thought it made sense and bought the book, then went to the supermarket to buy ingredients.
At 4 PM, she returned to Emerald Bay.
Dakota saw her come back and meowed weakly, curling up in its bed without moving.
Seeing this made her even more heartbroken, so she decided to take extra care of Dakota.
In the evening, Joseph came home from work.
Through the kitchen glass door, he saw Cassie busy cooking.
The aroma wafted through the glass door, stimulating his appetite, and he suddenly felt a bit hungry.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a small pudding on a white porcelain plate on the table. It looked quite tasty.
He casually took a spoon and had a bite. It tasted different from the puddings he had before.
The pudding tasted a bit strange, but it wasn't overly sweet. After a few more bites, it seemed okay.
Although he had enjoyed Cassie's breakfast before, he didn't expect her to be creative with desserts, too.
"Joey, you're back." The sliding door opened, and Cassie came out with a dish, stunned to see Joseph almost finishing the pudding.
Joseph felt uneasy under her gaze, guessing she must be thrilled inside, considering he was eating her dessert.
He cleared his throat. "This pudding tastes pretty good."
Cassie shivered. If she told him this was a treat for Dakota, would he kill her on the spot?
She forced a smile. "I made it especially for you. I'm glad you like it."
Joseph gave her a cold glance. "Just focus on taking care of Dakota."
"I know." Cassie nodded with a look of deep affection. "But I can't help myself."
Joseph continued to look at her indifferently.
Cassie's look of deep affection was hard to maintain, seeing him so unmoved.
Fortunately, Joseph picked up Dakota and changed the subject. "What will it have tonight?"
"Salmon balls. It doesn't like vegetables, so I added some carrots. It ate six of them, all gone." Cassie was puzzled.
She pondered, 'Aren't cats supposed to eat just a little? Dakota's appetite seems quite big.'
"I see," Joseph replied.
"I've made dinner. Let's eat."
Joseph looked at the dinner, which was no less than a restaurant meal. He had to admit Cassie's cooking was excellent, much better than restaurant food.
After eating, he rarely praised, "Your cooking is good."
"Thank you." Cassie was flattered and then pretended to be shy. "Since I was little, I aspired to cook for my future husband. I hope he can have a warm and delicious meal after a busy day at work, and I'll be satisfied." After saying this, she glanced at Joseph.
Joseph, with his head down, was stroking the cat on his lap, his thick eyelashes hiding his emotions.
He lazily lifted his eyes. "Aren't you going to clean up the dishes?"
