Chapter 955 Joseph Was Jealous

"Not good," Sophia said. "Lately, I'm often alone in the Hernandez House. Grandma and the others are in the hospital. Grandpa can't walk anymore. I visited him; he's so pitiful. And Uncle Richard, he's even more out of it than I am, like a child."

As Sophia spoke, she started crying again. "Uncle Richard is so pitiful, too. He used to always tease me and liked to pinch my ears. Whatever I asked him to buy, he would buy for me."

Cassie's throat tightened. Hearing Sophia's sobs, she really wanted to hug her. After all, Sophia was still so young.

But without Liam, Cassie couldn't see Sophia at all.

She thought to herself, 'What should Sophia and I do in the future?'

The more she thought about Sophia, the more her heart ached. Cassie didn't know what to do. She could only keep talking to Sophia until she coaxed her to sleep over the phone. Cassie herself felt completely lost.

The next day, before dawn, Cassie went out to find Liam.

It was another day with no news. In the end, she had to go to the Hernandez Group to find Joseph.

Cassie thought that after returning to Whisperlyn City, she would never have contact with Joseph again. But she came to the Hernandez House once more.

However, the Hernandez House was no longer as glorious as it used to be.

There wasn't even a receptionist at the front desk. Cassie saw several employees carrying large boxes out.

Wearing a baseball cap, Cassie wasn't recognized by the employees. They were all talking with grim expressions, "The Chamberlain family called me, saying they're willing to offer a higher salary for me to join them. I think the Chamberlain family has a brighter future."

"The Chamberlain family called me, too. It's better to leave early. I heard the Hernandez House can't even afford year-end bonuses anymore. There's no point for us skilled workers to stay here."

"Stop." Ivan stormed out angrily. "I haven't approved your resignations. Even if you want to leave, you have to finish your current work and hand it over properly."

"Come on, Mr. Simmons, we're not staying here. Leaving early means we can still find good jobs elsewhere. The Hernandez House is done for; we don't want to waste our time here."

Ivan cursed, "You ungrateful bunch. If it weren't for the Hernandez House spending money to send you abroad for training, you wouldn't be so skillful today."

"Mr. Simmons, you should also jump ship early. If you wait too long, you might find that we're your superiors when you look for a job."

A group of employees left one after another.

Cassie was stunned. It seemed the situation at the Hernandez House was worse than she had imagined.

After taking the elevator to the executive floor, Cassie noticed that the secretary's office was much emptier than before, and there wasn't even a single security guard in sight.

As Cassie walked to the CEO's office door, she suddenly heard an arrogant middle-aged man's voice from inside.

"Joseph, if I were you, I would agree to my terms. There's no need to drag this out. The Hernandez House is done for. I'm not asking you to compensate me for the breach of contract. As long as you give me the Hernandez House, I'll compensate you with eight billion dollars."

"Eight billion dollars? Stop daydreaming." Nathaniel's angry voice came through. "The Hernandez House encompasses insurance, finance, electronics, and various subsidiary brands. You can't buy the Hernandez House."

"Shut up. You have no right to contradict me. You were no longer Joseph's assistant before," Keith scolded, his words dripping with contempt as if he was also insulting Joseph.

Joseph's face turned cold and stern. "Get out."

"You want me to get out?" Keith sneered. "Joseph, you must be dreaming. The Hernandez House is no longer glorious. It isn't even as good as a small company under the March family. You used to be so arrogant and disrespectful to me. Now, I can have you killed anytime I want."

"Yeah? Give it a try." Joseph suddenly stood up.

Joseph's tall stature and commanding presence immediately made the short and stout Keith feel suffocated.

"Fine, I'll teach you a lesson. Just wait." Keith kicked over the chair in front of him and stormed out.

At the door, Cassie kept her head down, and Keith didn't notice her.

Cassie glanced at Keith's back. She had seen Keith before and knew he was from the March family. The March family barely made it into the top twenty families in Whisperlyn City.

Now that he could come to the Hernandez House and act so arrogantly, it was clear that the Hernandez House was no longer what it used to be.

Inside the office, Nathaniel angrily said, "Mr. Hernandez, Keith is too shameless. He used to not even dare to speak in front of you and always tried to get Evelyn and Megan to build a good relationship with you to curry favor..."

"Shut up," Joseph warned, glaring at Nathaniel, then looked behind Nathaniel, "What are you doing here?"

Nathaniel turned around and saw Cassie walking in.

Cassie took off her hat, revealing her smooth, thick, long hair. Her pretty face was makeup-free, but her features were delicate and clear, with a refined and high-bridged nose. However, her eyes were tinged with a layer of melancholy.

"Ms. Brooks..." Nathaniel was startled.

"Leave us," Joseph ordered him.

Nathaniel walked out with a complicated expression, closing the door behind him.
Inside the office, Joseph and Cassie quietly stared at each other.

Cassie looked at Joseph. They hadn't been apart for long, but it felt like ages.

Joseph looked different now. That morning, he was still neatly dressed and handsome, but now his suit was wrinkled, his eyes were bloodshot, and he had dark circles and stubble, clearly showing he hadn't rested since returning from the island.

"Cassie, you..." Joseph cautiously began to speak, but Cassie interrupted him, "I came to ask if there's any news about Liam."

Joseph became nervous. "Cassie, why are you so... concerned about Liam?"

"I consider him a good friend," Cassie lowered her eyelashes, afraid he might suspect. "And... Liam is still Sophia's dad. As Sophia can't stay with me, she is very pitiful. If Liam died, I'm afraid she won't be able to handle it."

Joseph suddenly realized. He had been so busy and tired these days that he hadn't thought about Sophia.

"You haven't forgotten about Sophia, have you?" Cassie was a bit annoyed by Joseph's reaction.

"I... I've just had too much going on lately." Joseph's face showed a complex expression. "Sophia is at the Hernandez House, being taken care of by a nanny."

"Do you remember how the nanny treated you when you were a child?" Cassie's face turned sullen. "Why don't you let Sophia stay with me for a few days? Sophia is really pitiful. She called me crying last night, saying she was very lonely and couldn't reach Liam."

Joseph felt a pang in his heart and suddenly became more remorseful. He thought, 'Even though I hate Liam, I should consider Sophia.'

"Alright, I'll come to pick up Sophia in a few days after I'm done with my work. But you can't take Sophia to David's place, or I won't let you take her away now," Joseph said.
