Chapter 227

""Like you?"" Richard's laughter echoed in the room as though he'd just heard the most amusing joke. ""Why would I care for a woman who already has a boyfriend, yet still attempts to slip into my bed?""

His words hit Olivia like a physical blow, not across her face, but directly to her heart. She swayed slightly, struggling to remain standing.

A gasp rippled through the room, filled with employees and shareholders. Their eyes, filled with a blend of scorn and contempt, turned towards Olivia.

""I had no idea she was that type of woman,"" one muttered, ""She always seemed so pure and virtuous.""

""Many of the guys at the office thought she was a goddess,"" another added.

""I'm glad I never introduced my grandson to her. She's shameless,"" an older woman sniffed.

The onslaught of humiliation drained the color from Olivia's face, leaving her as pale as death. All her efforts to build a good reputation were now shattered.

Robert, Olivia's father, trembled with shame. ""Mr. Hernandez, your words are too harsh. Olivia truly likes you; she fell in love at first sight.""

Richard's response was to burst into laughter, as though Robert's words were the punchline to some hilarious joke. ""What she sees in me, I can't fathom. But I'll say this—out of all the women I've been with, she's by far the most... liberated. And Cassie, sacrificing your daughter’s future for wealth and social status, that's something I can almost admire.""

His words sent shockwaves through the room, not only resetting everyone's moral compass but also leaving Cassie, watching the drama unfold with incredulity, utterly astonished.

She had never expected Richard to be so twisted. What startled her even more was that Olivia seemed perfectly fine with it.

Clearing her throat, Cassie threw a sardonic smile at Olivia. ""Well, you sure have opened my eyes. Is this the same tactic you used to snag Arthur Lewis?""

The mention of Arthur Lewis reminded the crowd of the history between him and Olivia. Their glares, filled with palpable disgust, turned once again towards Olivia.

They instinctively recoiled from her, as if fearing contamination by her mere presence.

Shivering uncontrollably, Olivia's body went limp, and she feigned fainting.

""Olivia!"" Robert scooped her up in his arms and made a hasty retreat from the office.

Meanwhile, Richard frowned, turned to Cassie and asked, ""She's had other boyfriends before?""

""Yeah, she was even engaged once. But as soon as her fiancé went broke, she quickly moved on to the next prospect,"" Cassie replied, giving Richard a perplexed glance, ""You didn’t think you were her first, did you?""

Richard fell silent, lost in his own illusions.

Seeing as she'd helped him with the Robert and daughter issue, Cassie thought to throw him a bone, ""There are certain things in this world that can be... restored.""

""I'm well aware, thank you for the reminder,"" he replied sheepishly, forcing a smile and changing the subject, ""Miss Brooks, I hope you're not upset anymore.""

Cassie, genuinely baffled by his train of thought, suggested, ""Mr. Hernandez, can we have a word in private?""

""Sure, no problem.""

As Cassie led him outside the company, Richard followed, sneaking a glance at Joe who was nearby, shivering inwardly.

Joe smiled at him, ""Mr. Hernandez, you doing alright?""

""Oh... I'm fine, your bodyguard looks quite capable.""

Internally, Richard’s mind was reeling—Cassie had none other than Joe by her side, a top-five skilled member of Dragon. Dragon, the elite private security firm under the Hernandez family, comprised of highly skilled ex-military personnel and experts from various strategic fields, was now nearly single-handedly controlled by Joseph.

What kind of spell did Cassie cast on Joe? Richard’s gaze towards her had completely changed."
