Chapter 1499 Women Are Fragrant and Beautiful

Cassie was speechless.

Half an hour later, Laura called Derek. She heard Derek on the other end pretending to say, "Okay, okay, I'll go check it out right away. You wait there. Miss Jessica, my friend has an emergency, I have to go."

Laura silently sympathized with the girl.

After finishing the barbecue, Laura was ready to go back to the Presidential Palace. "You two go ahead and hang out, I won't be joining."

"I have something to do later, so I can't go," Bernice said apologetically to Cassie.

Sick with frustration, Cassie had left Joseph to spend time with her friends, but both of them were busy. "Alright, I'll go back to be with Joseph and my children."

At 7:30 PM, Laura returned to the Presidential Palace. Not long after, Violet came over. She checked on Maeve and then talked about Derek.

"Derek had dinner with the girl for only forty minutes before saying a friend had an emergency and left."

Violet said angrily, "I called him, and he didn't answer. It's driving me crazy."

Laura felt guilty since she had called to help Derek find an excuse to leave. "Maybe I got it wrong. Maybe he doesn't like curvy girls that much. How about we try a pretty and elegant one tomorrow?"

"Let's give it a try," Violet said, looking at Maeve and sighing. "I wonder when Derek will bring home a wife and give me a cute grandchild like this."

"Godmother, Aaron and Derek are about the same age, and he's not married either."

Laura chatted with Violet for a while. After Violet left, Laura sent Derek a message: [When are you coming back? Your mom was just here complaining about you. Why don't you tell me what kind of woman you like, and I'll help you pick one from Godmother's phone?]

At the bar, Derek saw her message and bursted into laughter. After laughing, he felt bitter.

The most painful thing in the world was liking someone but not being able to say it. He was really afraid of scaring her.

After staring at the screen for a few minutes, he replied: [I like men. Does my mom have any of those in her phone?]

Laura, who was drinking water, was so shocked that she spat it out.

She quickly wiped her mouth and choked.

After coughing until her face flushed, she hurriedly replied: [Stop joking.]

Laura: [Are you serious?]

Derek: [I've never told anyone. My parents have all their hopes pinned on me, you know.]

Laura was silent.

She raged internally for a long time before replying: [Is today April Fool's Day? Derek, stop joking. Women are fragrant and beautiful, so irresistible. How can you not like women? Are you sure?]

Derek couldn't help but laugh.

His friend, Beckett Sinclair, kicked him. "Your laugh is disgusting."

Derek put his arm around Beckett's shoulder. "Buddy, my happiness depends on you."

"I don't mind. I like men anyway," Beckett said with a mischievous smile, leaning in to kiss Derek's face.

"Get lost." Derek quickly pushed his face away. "I'm not interested in you."

Beckett laughed and started drinking from a bottle.

Derek looked down at his phone. Laura had sent another message: [Derek, listen to me. Try dating women. You'll see they're much better than men. Besides, your parents also want you to marry a noble lady.]

Derek: [I know, that's why I'm in so much pain. Don't tell anyone.]

Laura: [I definitely won't tell anyone, but you can't keep going like this.]

Then, Derek didn't reply.

Laura stared blankly at the ceiling. She suddenly wanted to share this news with Cassie, but since it was Derek's secret, she couldn't say anything.

She kept telling herself that Derek was definitely lying to her.

But what if it was true?

And Violet had said that since Derek returned to the country, he hadn't really dated any girls. Violet had only heard that he briefly dated a girl abroad, but Derek hadn't mentioned any relationships since.

That night, Laura couldn't sleep.

She was awake until midnight. She got up and looked at the building where Derek lived, which was still dark. He hadn't come back.

Maybe he was somewhere feeling sad.

The next morning, Derek didn't come to breakfast.

She asked the butler and found out that Derek had come back in the early hours and was still asleep.

Violet snorted and said, "He's probably avoiding me so I won't nag him about yesterday."

Carl smiled. "Don't be so anxious. He's only twenty-six."

Laura pretended to look at her phone. Half a minute later, she suddenly exclaimed, "I just saw the news. The prince of Austin is actually gay."

Violet scooped a bowl of porridge. "In many countries, same-sex marriage is legal. It's no big deal."

Laura blinked. "Godmother, can you accept homosexuality?"

"Homosexuality is also true love. We shouldn't discriminate," Violet said. "But personally, I hope Derek marries a noblewoman."

Laura was silent.

After all, Laura had the experience of being a mother, and she felt a pang of worry for Violet.

After breakfast, Laura went to the backyard, specifically to where Derek lived. The door was open, and a maid was mopping the floor in the living room.

Seeing her, the maid pointed upstairs. "Mr. Jude just got up."

Hearing that Derek was awake, Laura felt relieved and went upstairs.

The bedroom door on the second floor was slightly ajar.

She knocked on the door, asking, "Derek, are you in there? I'm coming in."

"Wait..."

Before the voice inside finished, Laura had already pushed the door open.

In the bedroom, Derek was only wearing a pair of sleep shorts, with no shirt on, his hair messy, and a toothbrush in his mouth.

Laura was dumbfounded.

She wasn't shocked by Derek's lean waist but by his erection.

She had seen Michael's genitals before, but now the person in front of her was Derek.
