Chapter 1002 Joseph Always Stood Out
Back in the day, everyone at EchoReach followed his orders, but now they were all about protecting Laura.
It felt like he and Laura had swapped places.
"Ms. Miller, ready to get back to work?" Michael's mood was sour, and his tone matched.
Laura glanced at him, her red lips curling slightly. "Nope."
She handed him her resignation letter.
Michael's face darkened. "You want to quit?"
"Yep." Laura nodded, feeling pretty pleased with herself.
Michael was livid. "I gave you ten percent of Ocean Blue Group's shares. We have a contract. You can't just quit whenever you feel like it."
"Then I'll give the shares back," Laura said casually.
Michael didn't expect her to be so blunt. After a few seconds of stunned silence, he sneered. "What? Now that Carl's acknowledged you as his Goddaughter, you think you're too good for Ocean Blue's shares?"
Michael admitted he was jealous when he said that.
But the EchoReach bodyguards quickly warned, "Michael, remember your status."
Laura laughed at Michael's embarrassed expression. "Did you hear that? Watch your words."
"Laura, don't get too cocky. You're not Carl's real daughter." Michael was almost losing it. "I've never seen a woman as shameless as you. If it weren't for the fact that you're carrying my child, Carl wouldn't even acknowledge you."
"Is that so? Well, thanks for the sperm." Laura smiled sweetly. "I'll inherit ten percent of the Jude Group's shares in the future. I've also moved into the Jude family's mansion. The servants let me choose a room, so I picked yours. Didn't like the decor, so I redid it in pink."
"You're a bad woman," Michael retorted. "Laura, this has been your plan all along. You just want connections with the Jude family."
"The Jude family has nothing to do with you." Laura tapped the resignation letter on the table, her tone dismissive. "I'm done working with you. Dream on if you think I'll stay."
Michael's handsome face turned sullen.
He didn't want Laura to quit. She was young and already had a high status in the formulation industry. Her future potential was limitless. She was Ocean Blue Group's cash cow.
As long as she was around, Ocean Blue would develop more new products.
"Laura, I know you're pregnant. I can let you take a break for a while," Michael said.
Laura raised her hand to interrupt him, "I don't dare stay here any longer, lest you force me to go to the hospital again."
Michael's face turned red with anger. "You were irresponsible to have this child in the first place."
"None of your business. At least I didn't murder my own child. But this child will have nothing to do with you in the future." Laura rolled her eyes at him. "I can't be bothered to argue with you. Sign it or not, I don't care. If you want to hold me accountable, take back the shares. I don't need them."
She opened the office door, then turned back with a smile. "I've thought it over. With my talent, why should I work for you? Now that I have power, money, and influence, why not start my own cosmetics brand? I've talked it over with Violet and Carl, and they both support me. I'm not resigning to rest; I'm starting my own business."
With that, she swayed gracefully out of the office, leaving a bewildered Michael behind.
Michael thought to himself, 'What did she say? She wants to start her own business? Does she think it's that easy?
'But with the Jude family's support and her formulation skills, she might really become a competitor to Ocean Blue Group.
'What kind of grudge does she have against me? She took my family, and now she wants to start a company to steal my business.'
Michael felt a chill run down his spine.
"Are you starting your own cosmetics brand?" Cassie was stunned when she got the call from Laura.
"Yep." Laura smiled sweetly. "Yesterday, while chatting with Violet, she said my product development skills were excellent and that it was a waste to work for someone else. I could totally start my own cosmetics brand. The Jude family can help me with the necessary permits."
Cassie admired Violet inwardly, 'No wonder Violet is going to be the future First Lady; she really thinks ahead.'
"Actually, Violet makes a lot of sense. I'll be by your side." Cassie laughed. "If you need more money, I can invest."
"Thanks, you're so nice. I can hire you to help manage the company." Laura was in a great mood. "By the way, the Jude family is hosting a banquet for me tomorrow night. I've sent you an invitation."
"Of course," Cassie replied.
After hanging up, Laura's invitation arrived quickly.
When Cassie returned to the villa and was having dinner with David that evening, he suddenly said, "I heard the Jude family is hosting a banquet for Laura tomorrow night."
"Yes." Cassie looked surprised.
David smiled warmly. "It's quite a big deal. The Jude family is giving Laura a lot of face. Many elites and dignitaries in Whisperlyn City have received invitations. What about you?"
Cassie smiled. "Laura gave me one."
"I'll accompany you tomorrow night," David placed a piece of food on her plate and said casually. "You're so beautiful; I'm afraid other men will be eyeing you."
Cassie smirked. "It's not that exaggerated. Everyone knows I'm married."
David said seriously, "I'm mainly worried you'll run into Joseph again."
Cassie was taken aback. "He shouldn't be going, right?"
"It's hard to say," David held her hand and said affectionately. "I don't want any more accidents."
Cassie didn't say anything in the end and agreed to go with him.
The next evening, David drove her to the Jude family's banquet.
As soon as they entered the banquet hall, Cassie saw many low-key but prominent dignitaries.
She could tell these people were different from the usual elites; they were some of the real power players in Madison.
However, among the crowd, Joseph was the most striking.
Dressed in a black double-breasted suit that accentuated his tall and imposing figure, he wore a brown tie around his neck. His handsome features looked like they had been meticulously crafted by God.
Even though many men were wearing black suits tonight, Joseph always stood out.
