Chapter 1500 Did I Scare You?
Laura felt so embarrassed.
Her eyes felt like they were on fire.
What now?
In a flash, she acted like nothing happened and strolled in, saying, "Did you just wake up? Go brush your teeth first."
Derek stayed quiet.
He wanted to say, 'Laura, you're trying to play it cool and act like you didn't see anything, but can you at least stop blushing so much?'
He was embarrassed too.
"Alright, I'll go brush my teeth. Hang on."
Derek darted into the bathroom and shut the door.
Hearing the door click, Laura realized she messed up.
Damn, why did she come in? She should've left. Now Derek was stuck hiding in the bathroom.
After a moment of hesitation, Laura walked to the bathroom door. "Derek, I just remembered I have something to do. I'm heading out."
"Oh." Derek didn't try to stop her.
He had no idea how long it would take to calm down.
Later that morning, at the lab.
Laura was holding a graduated cylinder, examining the liquid inside.
As she stared at it, the morning's scene popped into her head, and she got a bit distracted.
She extended her thumb and index finger, measuring the length of the cylinder.
"Laura, what are you doing?" A lab tech passing by casually asked.
Laura's hand shook, and her face turned bright red.
Laura was losing it.
What was she doing just now? She was actually thinking about Derek's size.
What was wrong with her?
Was she lonely and desperate after her divorce?
No way.
Laura felt completely out of sorts.
"Laura, your face is so red. Are you coming down with a cold?" the colleague looked at her with concern. Laura better not take another sick leave; the company had several new products waiting for development, and Laura was a key member of the lab.
"No, maybe it's just too hot in here."
Laura fanned herself with her hand and then quickly tried to focus on her work again.
But soon, Derek sent her a message on Facebook: [Did I scare you?]
Laura: [What are you talking about? I don't understand.]
Derek: [I know you saw it this morning.]
The temperature on Laura's face, which had just calmed down, rose again.
Couldn't Derek just pretend he didn't notice?
Laura sent a confused emoji.
She wasn't going to admit it.
Derek: [Stop pretending. Your face was all red this morning. Come on, you have a kid. I'm way more innocent than you.]
Laura: [Enough, you're so innocent but still talking about this with me.]
She continued to reply: [You see, you have needs too, so you still need a girlfriend. Imagine holding a woman at night and waking up next to a beautiful woman in the morning. How great would that be?]
Derek: [No interest. I've never held a woman while sleeping anyway.]
Laura: [You should try it.]
Derek: [With whom? One of the girls my mom introduces? Don't be ridiculous. If I took a girl to bed right after meeting her, my mom would kill me.]
Laura sent a speechless emoji.
Derek: [Take me out to dinner tonight. You owe me several meals. I don't want to go home; my mom keeps talking about setting me up with a new woman. It's annoying.]
Laura: [I have to be with Maeve.]
Derek: [Bring Maeve along. After dinner, we can take her for a walk. It's boring for her to stay at the Presidential Palace all the time.]
Laura thought about it and agreed.
In the evening, Thea dropped Maeve off at the company entrance. Shortly after Laura picked her up, Derek arrived in his car.
Laura was about to carry Maeve up, but Derek got out of the car first and took Maeve from her. "You're still recovering. Let me carry Maeve. You drive."
"Okay." Laura took the car keys and, as she got closer, instinctively glanced at his pants.
"What are you looking at?" Derek's amused voice came from above her.
"I'm looking at your pants. They look nice and make your legs look long." Laura sighed in frustration. Some things were just instinctive.
"I've worn these pants in front of you many times. You're just now noticing they look good?" Derek teased.
Laura knew he understood, so she simply glared at him, puffing her cheeks. "So what?"
The sunset cast an orange glow on Laura's face, making her skin look tender and cute.
Derek smiled gently. "Alright, alright. Get in the car. I'll take you to some delicious homemade food."
Laura perked up at the mention of good food and got in the car.
After the last barbecue and the chocolates and cakes Derek had given her, she felt Derek knew many good places to eat.
Following the GPS, Laura drove for forty minutes to an old house.
The exterior was worn, but the interior was exquisitely and elegantly decorated.
Laura didn't know what was good to eat, so she let Derek choose. With nothing to do, she picked up a piece of handmade almond cookie from the table. It was thin and crispy. The waiter poured a cup of coffee, which perfectly balanced the sweetness in her mouth. Overall, it was a great combination.
After Derek ordered the food, Maeve started crying from hunger.
Laura was about to move, but Derek was faster. "You sit. I'll handle it."
He skillfully opened the bag, took out the formula container, hot water kettle, and bottle, and quickly made half a bottle of milk. Maeve drank it with her cheeks puffed up while lying in his arms.
Not long after finishing, Maeve pooped.
Derek took Maeve to the bathroom in the private room, quickly cleaned her up, and changed her diaper with practiced ease.
Sometimes Laura wanted to help but found she couldn't do anything.
She quietly watched Derek, feeling something warm and full inside her.
In some ways, Derek was even more skilled than Laura, the mother.
In fact, being with Derek was the most comfortable time for Laura.
Laura hadn't had much contact with men in her life.
The only close ones were Benjamin and Michael.
When Laura was with Benjamin, she liked him, so she often went along with him more. Looking back, it was exhausting.
With Michael, they argued a lot at first. Michael didn't tolerate her at all. Even after he said he liked her and treated her well, looking back now, Laura felt Michael was good at putting on a show. He didn't really like Laura. Maybe it was just because they were married, or maybe he just wanted to have sex with her.
