Chapter 1395 Will Protect You with My Life
Michael was feeling pretty damn proud of himself, but he knew Laura was shy and he had to keep it cool. "Mom, what are you even talking about? I don't get it."
"Alright, I know," Caroline said, and then she just clammed up.
She knew what was up 'cause earlier, Maeve had been hungry and went upstairs to knock on the door, only to hear some, uh, interesting noises from inside. She got the picture.
Young couples, once they get it on, things just naturally shift.
"You gotta treat Laura right from now on. No more of that hurtful crap you used to say."
"Mom, I got it," Michael nodded like a good boy. He was freaked out; what if one day he pissed off Laura and lost his happy life?
Now, even if he had to keep his head down, he'd do it with a smile.
Some things you just don't get until you've been through 'em.
After whipping up a bowl of noodles, Michael carefully brought it over. "Babe, watch out; it's hot."
"Blow on it to cool it," Laura said, all casual.
"Got it," Michael quickly started blowing on it.
Laura watched him, kinda stunned.
They used to be at each other's throats, and she never thought it would come to this.
But Michael had changed so much.
"Babe, I know I'm a looker, but you don't have to stare at me like that," Michael said with a cocky grin.
"You're overthinking it," Laura raised an eyebrow. "I was just thinking about how much of a jerk you used to be."
"That was the old me. Don't dwell on it," Michael's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly said, "I must've been out of my mind back then."
Seeing his new self-awareness, Laura's mouth twitched. "Really? If I had said that to you a month ago, you would've lost it. Men really do change after getting some."
"Not really. After the celebration party, I realized I liked you, and I've been good to you ever since," Michael lowered his voice. "I'm being extra nice to you today 'cause I think you worked too hard last night. It feels different now, like you finally completely belong to me. Even though you've given me a kid, I wasn't sure about your feelings before. You're not someone who gives yourself away easily. Once you do, it means you're serious about being with me, and I'll protect you with my life."
Laura was really touched.
In the past, she had been a bit jealous of Megan. Even though Megan was bad news, Michael was genuinely good to her.
Michael might've been a bit naive and easily fooled by Megan, but he was the kind of guy who, once he fell for a girl, would treat her right.
Now, Laura could feel Michael's real affection.
"So, do you like me more now, or did you like Megan more back then?" she couldn't help but ask, staring at him.
"Why do you keep bringing up Megan?" Michael was exasperated. "The biggest regret of my life is liking Megan. You gave me a kid and yourself; Megan can't hold a candle to you."
"Not bad, your words are getting sweeter," Laura said, munching on the noodles with a satisfied smile.
"Kissed sweet by you," Michael said with a grin.
After breakfast, it was already pretty late, so Laura decided to skip work and chill at home with Maeve.
Michael had to hit the office for a meeting. But after driving off, he was back in less than ten minutes, holding a box of medicine.
"We didn't use protection last night, and it's not cool for you to get pregnant again so soon after giving birth. Take this. I'll grab some condoms this afternoon, so you won't have to take this again."
Laura glanced at it, her face turning a bit red. "What do you mean you'll buy condoms this afternoon? Did I agree to that? Besides, I'm really tired today."
"I know. I didn't say we had to get it on tonight. Just keep them at home," Michael said, giving her a deep look before heading out.
On his way to the office, Michael was in an insanely good mood.
If it weren't for considering Laura's dignity, he would've loved to share his joy with Lucas and Joseph.
But today, Michael was so pumped that he smiled at everyone.
Aaron, who was managing the project with Michael, was the first to notice. "Michael, did something happen between you and Laura after the party last night? Haha."
"Don't talk nonsense. We already have a kid. Would I be happy about something like that?" Michael denied it, but he couldn’t hide his grin. "I'm just happy that I have a daughter, a loving and beautiful wife, and now James has entrusted us with such a big project."
Aaron didn't call him out. Everyone knew Michael and Laura had only gotten hitched because of the pregnancy, and he hadn't had a chance to get it on with Laura since.
"Aaron, stop messing around with relationships and settle down. Having a kid is the best," Michael said, throwing an arm around his shoulder.
"You sound just like Mom," Aaron quickly moved away. "By the way, I'm heading to Dominicia for business tomorrow. Want me to bring back something for Laura?"
"Yes," Michael quickly said, thinking of the top luxury items there. "Bring back some necklaces, watches, skincare products, that sort of thing."
Aaron sighed. "Michael, you can't give her everything all at once. If you only give her one thing next time, she'll think it's not enough. One at a time is more exciting."
"Good point," Michael thought for a moment. "Then bring me thirty gifts. I'll keep them and give her one each day for a month."
Aaron was speechless.
Who said Michael had low emotional intelligence? Even Aaron couldn't pull that off.
"Michael, what about Mom and our sister?"
"Think for yourself. They're your mom and sister too. I only care about my wife," Michael said with a smile.
Aaron was speechless. Now he got what it meant to forget about Mom and sister once you have a wife and kid.
When Aaron got back from his four-day business trip abroad, Michael had wrapped the gifts.
Every morning when Laura woke up, she'd see a gift on the nightstand.
At first, she didn't realize it was Michael's romantic gesture.
The first day, she opened it and found a Patek Philippe women's watch, super fancy, with a small dial surrounded by a circle of diamonds, sparkling and dazzling.
She loved it.
But Laura still went downstairs to ask Michael, "Is this watch for me, or for your mom and sister?"
"Why would I put it on your nightstand if it was for them?" Michael was baffled.
