Chapter 289
""How am I being obscene?"" Joseph's hands framed her face, his gaze wanton.
Instinctively, Cassie covered his mouth, her cheeks burning. ""Shut up.""
""What now? Do you despise me?"" Joseph pulled her hand away, his voice edged with anger. ""Cassie, I leave for just a few days, and you rush into an engagement with David. Does David know you're here with me right now?""
""Enough, Joseph!""
Cassie's complexion was ashen. The weight of her promises to David was pressing heavily on her conscience. She felt genuinely guilty for letting him down.
Joseph's temper flared uncontrollably, and he pressed his lips to hers in an urgent kiss.
He thought she must be disgusted by him, but as her familiar scent enveloped him, he failed to control himself.
Cassie struggled in vain against the strength of his hold, her efforts futile against the firm grip pinning her hands.
Before long, his passionate kisses left her head spinning.
On the days he'd been gone, Cassie often found herself awake in the middle of the night, with thoughts of him creeping into her insomniac mind. Despite her engagement to David, she instinctively recoiled whenever David tried to get close.
Cassie found herself craving the scent of Joseph.
Suddenly, a loud ""bang!"" was heard from what sounded like a door closing downstairs. However, it didn't faze Joseph. It wasn't long before someone outside called softly, ""Joseph, are you there?""
They both snapped back to reality.
That was Luna's voice.
Cassie blanched and shoved him away, suddenly remembering that he already had a girlfriend, who was now right outside.
A flicker of annoyance crossed Joseph's heated gaze. How did that damn Luna get in here?
He quickly got up and went to the door. As he opened it, he saw Cassie awkwardly diving into the walk-in closet, which he found amusingly absurd.
""Joseph...""
Luna stood frozen at the doorway, struck by the sight of Joseph. His navy blue pajama top was half-undone, revealing his solid abs and brimming with masculine allure. Her heart fluttered chaotically. But, after a moment, she detected the scent of another woman on him, and her heart stopped. Upon seeing the turbulent gaze in his eyes, she was utterly bewildered.
Her intuition screamed that another woman was in the room and their moment was possibly interrupted by her arrival.
But how could this be?
Wasn't it said that Joseph had shunned intimacy with women since Megan Ray's death? Who was with him then?
""How did you get in?"" Joseph asked. His major pet peeve was people entering his space uninvited.
""I went to the estate this morning to find you; you weren't there. So Grandma gave me the keys to this place,"" Luna, intimidated by his anger, stuttered. ""I wanted to have breakfast with you. I've brought...""
