Chapter 1788 Bernice definitely hasn't forgotten you.
"Reborn?"
Lucas was taken aback.
"Yes, it's her," Max coughed lightly. "Mr. Nelson, do you have a grudge against this Reborn?"
"I've never even seen this person. We're not in the same circles at all, and she always appears abroad. I don't usually pay attention," Lucas frowned deeply. "Or rather, very few people in this world have seen her true face. She's very mysterious and low-key."
"Could it be related to Bernice?" Max asked tentatively.
Lucas reacted as if he had heard a ridiculous joke. "Bernice has the connections to reach someone like Reborn? I figure it's foreign medical resources trying to enter our market. Reborn is probably a competitor of the Nelson Group abroad, and Bernice might be secretly collaborating with them. But she's likely just a pawn."
After a pause, Lucas suddenly laughed coldly. "No wonder Bernice dared to declare war on me so boldly. Turns out she has strong backing. But she's too foolish. In those people's eyes, she's just a tool to be discarded after use."
Max coughed lightly. "She's not that foolish. You compensated her with a billion dollars. If it were me, I'd have taken the money and fled abroad. I wouldn't care how internet users insulted me. After all, a billion dollars is something many people can't earn in several lifetimes."
"How do you know she can earn another billion dollars in the future? Besides, she's quit the entertainment industry," Lucas frowned tightly. "What do you think she's up to?"
Max remained silent.
He suspected that Bernice didn't care about money at all. Even if she ran out of money, she still had land back home.
Would Lucas believe that?
Max himself wasn't too sure.
Nighttime.
The Enchanted Forest Hotel was hosting a charity event.
This was Nina's first public appearance since her return. Her short black hair was styled in loose curls, looking both voluminous and slightly messy. Her features were accentuated with eyeliner and lipstick, making her look exceptionally exquisite. She wore a pink A-line gown adorned with flowers, perfectly showcasing her stunning and sexy figure.
This made her the instant center of attention at the event.
If it were the old Bernice, she would have just been a celebrity, not worth the attention of many elites.
But since Lucas went to prison and Bernice donated a billion dollars, she had been reported by many mainstream media outlets. Even Violet had publicly praised her.
Now, whether it was Bernice or the soul inside her, Nina, they were no longer the same.
As soon as Bernice entered the hotel, many nobles and tycoons came over to greet her.
"Ms. Ramsey, long time no see."
"Ms. Ramsey, you cut your hair short. It suits you very well. You look beautiful."
"Ms. Ramsey, you look more stunning than ever."
Everyone was very polite.
Who would dare be impolite? Bernice managed to send Lucas to prison, something none of the men present could have done.
As for Bernice being a woman Lucas had toyed with, no one dared to mention it. Everyone seemed to have conveniently forgotten.
Not far away, Gary, the president of the Enchanted Forest Hotel, watched the most dazzling Bernice in the crowd with interest.
Why had he never noticed how radiant Bernice could be?
He remembered when he first met Bernice; her sweet and pure appearance was quite eye-catching.
When he hadn't gotten her, he tried every means to pursue her. After he got her, as they spent more time together, Bernice's increasing control over him made him feel a bit bored.
But ever since she sent Lucas to prison.
Gary realized he had misjudged her.
Or rather, he had never really understood Bernice.
Although she had also been with Lucas, for men like them, they were more interested in what made a woman unique.
And today's Bernice was stunningly beautiful and sharp.
"Mr. Ross, Bernice must be quite something in bed, right? Otherwise, why would both you and Mr. Nelson want her?" A chubby boss beside him leered.
"Demetrius Kramer, what are you talking about? Our Mr. Ross had her long ago. Lucas was just playing with a woman Mr. Ross discarded," another boss, who recently needed Gary's favor, joked.
Gary held his wine glass and suddenly glanced at the two. "What right do you have to talk about Bernice?"
The two bosses' faces stiffened.
Gary sneered, "Bernice was willing to donate a billion dollars. You guys wouldn't even part with tens of millions for your wives."
With that, Gary ignored them.
Gary turned and walked away with his hands in his pockets, his face cold.
After walking a distance, his phone rang. It was his fiancée, Lucy Kim. "Gary, your hotel is hosting a charity gala tonight. There's a necklace designed by the famous jewelry designer Demetrius Kramer. Can you buy it for me?"
"Didn't you just buy a similar necklace last month?" Gary frowned.
"I like it," Lucy pouted. "Just buy it for me."
"Alright."
After hanging up, Gary felt a tinge of annoyance.
He didn't mind women spending money, but Lucy was excessively extravagant.
"Go find out about Demetrius's necklace," Gary turned to his assistant.
"That necklace will cost at least seven million dollars," the assistant frowned. "You just bought a similar necklace for Ms. Kim last month, and an eight-million-dollar bracelet the month before. Mr. Ross, although you have money, spending like this..."
The assistant didn't finish his sentence.
The Ross family was wealthy, but Gary hadn't taken over the family business yet.
Most of his monthly earnings were spent on Lucy.
Gary couldn't help but think of the days he spent with Bernice.
She was frugal for him. He gave her a bank card, and she never used it. Sometimes, when he bought her a bag worth tens of thousands of dollars, she would be heartbroken and ignore him for days.
Back then, he thought she was stingy.
Now he realized she was genuinely thrifty and cared about him.
Gary's gaze swept over to Bernice in the distance.
Nina happened to look up, and their eyes met for two seconds before she calmly looked away.
But those two seconds hooked Gary's heart.
The assistant followed his gaze and chuckled. "Mr. Ross, I think Bernice hasn't forgotten about you."
"Tell me more," Gary raised an eyebrow.
"Look, since Bernice came back, she's refused many event invitations. But she accepted the one at our hotel. Maybe she came to run into you," the assistant smiled. "I dare say, among all the girlfriends you've had, Bernice was the most devoted to you."
