Chapter 533
Having taken a shower, Cassie was already reclining in bed, sleep eluding her. Joseph, on the other hand, slid into bed and enfolded Cassie in his arms, whispering, "I won't sleep in the adjacent room tonight. I want to sleep with you."
Cassie, in response, turned away, making a deliberate effort to disregard Joseph's presence.
"I've come to suspect that our recent quarrels stem from our separate sleeping arrangements. A couple should foster intimacy to preserve their bond," Joseph reasoned, punctuating his words with a gentle kiss on her cheek.
His kisses, tender and soothing, lulled Cassie into a state of drowsiness. She allowed him, albeit half-heartedly, to indulge his desires. This was their unique way of privately reconciling their internal disputes.
The following day, Cassie found herself in a state of tranquility, her mind having finally found some peace.
Megan, it seemed, had arrived well-prepared. Confronted with their unstable relationship, Cassie might have once chosen to retreat. But now, they had a child. She was compelled to fight for her family.
After some contemplation, Cassie turned to Joseph and voiced her thoughts, "Starting today, I want to occasionally visit the office. Being confined here day after day, unable to venture out, I feel trapped. It's far too easy for me to become lost in my thoughts, which only serves to deepen my depression."
Joseph's brow furrowed in unease at her words, but before he could voice his concerns, she cut him off.
"I'm truly weary of obsessing over you. When you didn't return today, my mind began to wander. I questioned if there was another woman, if my pregnancy repulsed you, or if you found my suspicions increasingly unbearable. I despise feeling this way," Cassie confessed, her voice heavy with sorrow.
Joseph exhaled a sigh, acknowledging the truth in her words. Their recent arguments, his work, and his illness had left him with little time to tend to her. He conceded with a simple, "Alright."
"There's one more thing. You can't be alone with Megan when you're receiving treatment. I'm aware that Michael and Locas are close to her and they often meet. If you plan to socialize next time, I'd like to accompany you," Cassie proposed, her face buried in Joseph's arm, appearing vulnerable.
It had been a while since Joseph had witnessed Cassie being so assertive yet yielding. His heart softened instantly. However, before he could respond, she continued.
"I'm aware they don't particularly care for me, but that's alright. I can endure it to prevent my husband from being swayed by other women."
Cassie raised her head, her large, enchanting eyes blinking up at him. "Who's to blame for my husband being so attractive? I adore you."
"Darling, your wish is my command," Joseph replied, his heart swelling with warmth as he leaned in to kiss Cassie's lips.
Joseph sighed inwardly. The idea of him having an affair with Megan was absurd. But if it made Cassie happy, he was willing to indulge her.
The following day, at precisely 8:40 a.m., Joseph entered the restaurant with Cassie tucked under his arm. Cassie's lips were slightly swollen, her cheeks flushed a delicate pink.
Their grandmother, with a single glance, deduced that something had transpired between them that morning. She felt a twinge of relief, but her worry was not entirely assuaged. "This is how a couple should behave. But you should still exercise caution. The doctor did mention that before three months..."
"Grandma, we didn't do anything. You don't need to keep reminding us. I'm not a child," Joseph interjected, his face turning a shade of crimson at her words.
