Chapter 1668 Wanting to Be a Dad

Elliott lowered his eyes, his stern face revealing no discernible expression.

Seeing this, Derek had no choice but to say, "Rose, my mom means that you shouldn't tell Maeve about her biological father. After all, they won't meet in the future."

"That's fine. I don't want Maeve to know she has a father like Michael. It's a disgrace," Rose said with a look of disdain, but her heart was moved.

Rose, being much older, quickly understood Violet's intentions.

If Derek and Laura got married in the future and Maeve found out Derek wasn't her biological father, it would create a barrier between Maeve and Derek.

Maeve was still young now, and if no one says anything, Maeve would essentially be Derek's child.

Besides not wanting any trouble, Violet probably had this in mind as well.

Thinking this way, Rose felt much more at ease.

It seemed Derek wasn't just talking, and Violet could still accept Laura.

After thinking for a while, Rose's expression softened, "Stay for dinner tonight. I'll cook some good dishes for you."

"I'll help," Derek said, rolling up his sleeves and getting up.

"You should rest for a while. You don't look well, probably didn't sleep last night," Rose said with a smile as she went into the kitchen.

Laura grabbed Derek, "My mom said you should rest. You have dark circles under your eyes."

"I only dozed off for a bit last night," Derek said, holding her hand. "I had several meetings today and was busy with work handovers, didn't get any sleep."

"Go rest in the guest room," Luke said, understanding his exhaustion.

"Go ahead, I'll take you there."

Laura, genuinely concerned for him, pushed him towards a guest room downstairs.

Once inside, out of sight, she felt a tight grip on her waist and was quickly pressed against the wall. A shadow fell over her, and his moist lips immediately kissed hers.

Outside, the sun had set two-thirds of the way down the horizon.

The room was unlit, and the dim light made the atmosphere even more intimate.

Derek's kiss was urgent and forceful.

The door was open, and Laura felt both shy and nervous, but at this moment, she couldn't care less. From last night until now, her emotions had been a rollercoaster.

Last night, she hadn't slept much either. More than worry, she missed him.

Ever since she read his little article, she wanted to hug him, kiss him, and cherish him.

The kiss was so intense that when they were both out of breath, Laura regained some sense and gently pushed him away, whispering, "You should rest for a bit. If we stay too long, my dad and the others will get suspicious."

Derek caressed her cheek, his eyes filled with desire, "It doesn't matter if they suspect. We're officially dating now."

"Still, we can't do this. I'm embarrassed."

She bit her lip shyly. Although the light was dim and her blushing face wasn't visible, her bright, enticing eyes were enough to tempt Derek.

Derek gave her a hard kiss on the lips, "I'll rest, and you stay with me."

"Alright." Laura hesitated for a moment but agreed.

Derek was indeed very tired. Once he lay down, he felt completely comfortable.

Holding Laura's hand, he fell asleep in less than two minutes.

After he was sound asleep, Laura tiptoed out of the guest room.

Elliott and Luke gave her a meaningful look. She blushed instinctively and explained, "I came out after he fell asleep."

"Yes." Luke nodded without saying anything.

But Elliott suddenly said, "We have no objections to your relationship, but be careful not to get pregnant before marriage again. You've been through it once; you should have learned your lesson."

"Elliott, I know that without you telling me."

Laura, both embarrassed and annoyed, glared at Elliott before going to the playroom to find Maeve.

An hour later.

Derek woke up just in time for dinner.

After a nap, Derek felt much better.

Maeve was especially happy to see Derek and insisted on being held by him.

Derek held the child in one arm and ate with the other. Maeve watched him eat with wide eyes, drooling.

Seeing this, Derek quickly grabbed a banana and fed Maeve small bites with a spoon.

"Give her to the nanny and eat first," Rose said.

"It's okay. Maeve hasn't seen me in a while. If I let go, she might cry."

Derek was quite content with this situation, and seeing the little one eating what he fed her made him feel particularly satisfied.

After dinner, Derek took Maeve to the playroom. Maeve loved to crawl and often climbed all over him.

Laura walked in with a bowl of fruit and saw Maeve sitting on Derek's stomach. Derek held Maeve's little hands and gently coaxed, "Good girl, say 'Daddy.'"

Maeve babbled.

"Daddy."

Derek kept trying, but Maeve didn't say the words he wanted to hear. When he looked up, he saw Laura standing at the door.

Derek's face turned red with embarrassment.

"Daddy?" Laura walked in with a teasing smile, "We aren't married yet."

Derek coughed lightly, "If you're willing to get married, I can do it anytime."

"No way," Laura glared at him. "I just got divorced. I'm not ready to jump into another marriage."

"Sweetheart, it's not a grave; it's a mansion," Derek said, pulling her into his arms.

With Laura on one side and Maeve on the other, Derek felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction.

Laura leaned against his chest without saying a word.

She loved him deeply, but her first marriage had left a significant impact on her, and she wasn't ready to marry again so soon.

Currently, she and Derek were in love, but marriage wasn't easy. They still had many things to work out.

"I'll wait for you," Derek said, kissing her hair. "Don't doubt it. From the day we started dating, I never thought about breaking up with you. I've already considered Maeve my daughter, and as she grows, she'll understand what 'Daddy' means."

Laura was stunned and looked up at his clear eyes, "What do you mean?"

"In the future, I want to teach Maeve that I'm her daddy," Derek said seriously. "Laura, from today, we'll date for at most two more years. By then, Maeve will be ready for preschool. Do you understand? She needs a daddy. Two years is enough time for you to see if I'm suitable as a husband and for you to enjoy yourself."
