Chapter 1256 Discovering Olivia's True Colors
At night, Everett was sprawled out on his bed, his brain buzzing with what Cassie had dropped on him earlier. "Robert and his wife are bad news. Helen even shoved his grandma down the stairs. Olivia's a pro at playing the weak and sweet card."
Everett felt like his head was gonna burst.
He muttered to himself, 'Why's the Brooks family gotta be such a mess? It's driving me nuts.'
Logically, he should back Olivia; she's his sister after all.
But honestly, Isabella handed Olivia billions without even giving him a heads-up. Everett wasn't salty about Olivia, but Cassie had a point. Isabella never gave him that kind of cash. And Olivia and Isabella hadn't even been back together for three months.
Isabella was always sharp and careful, and she was tough on him.
Everett wasn't dumb; he could tell Olivia wasn't as simple as she seemed.
Maybe he couldn't take everything Cassie said at face value, but Olivia was definitely someone to keep an eye on.
Everett suddenly shot up in bed.
Looked like he needed to sneak back to Silverwood and do some digging. And he couldn't let Isabella and Olivia know.
Otherwise, they'd definitely be pissed.
With that in mind, Everett had breakfast and then bounced from the villa, pretending he was heading to the office.
He needed to hit up Silverwood.
He didn't even clue Declan in on this.
He just took one of his guys with him.
Everett first swung by the old building of Height Company, but it had been bought out and was now a bigger renovation and construction company.
Everett played it cool, acting like he was looking for a construction crew, and got greeted by Wallace from sales.
Wallace saw Everett was young but decked out in designer gear and started buttering him up, "How big of a villa does Declan want to renovate?"
"Over three thousand square feet, but I'm not sure which renovation company to go with," Everett said, eyeing the sample rooms on the walls. "Your company's pretty big. I heard there used to be a solid construction and decoration company called Height Company in Silverwood when I was abroad."
"That was ages ago. Height Company went belly up a long time ago." Wallace chuckled. "This building used to be theirs, but we bought it later."
"No way?" Everett acted all surprised. "I heard they were doing alright, and they were around for years."
"The boss was a joke." Wallace waved it off. "He cut corners. His project manager swapped out the brand-name wires for cheap ones, caused a hotel fire, and it went to court."
"That's wild." Everett faked shock. "What happened next?"
"Then he got locked up, but everyone knew the project manager was the nephew of the chairman's wife. Height Company's rep was trashed after that." Wallace shook his head.
"So the chairman of Height Company wasn't much of a big shot," Everett said on purpose.
"Not just a nobody, both he and his wife ended up in jail. I heard they tried to swipe their sister's company shares. They even pushed his mom down the stairs to change the will. The couple got thrown in jail after that." Wallace seemed pretty into the old gossip.
Everett was scratching his head, feeling a bit lost.
Robert and his wife had mentioned this stuff, but they pinned it all on Cassie.
Wallace wasn't an insider, so who knew what was true?
"You sure know a lot," Everett said, giving Wallace a look.
"Been in the interior decoration game in Silverwood for five or six years, it's kinda my job," Wallace replied, then his eyes widened as Everett pulled out a fat stack of cash and slapped it on the table. "Spill the beans, and it's all yours."
Wallace was taken aback, realizing Everett wasn't here for a house reno but to dig up dirt on the Brooks family. But hey, only an idiot would turn down that kind of money.
"I want the real deal. Tell me everything you know," Everett said, lifting his chin.
Wallace let out a breath. If he was getting paid, no need to make stuff up. "What do you wanna know?"
"Stuff about the Brooks family, like Olivia or Cassie. Know who Olivia's been with?"
Wallace paused, then said, "Now that you mention it, there was some juicy gossip. Olivia had a boyfriend with the last name Lewis. His family had money. On their engagement day, Cassie crashed the party, claiming Olivia stole her boyfried. The whole thing turned into a city-wide joke."
Everett narrowed his eyes. "Is that for real?"
Wallace nodded, "Should be. I wasn't there, just heard about it. But later, Mr. Lewis got booted from his job. Not long after, the Brooks family broke off the engagement, trying to save face. He went off on Olivia on Facebook. I mean, I'd be pissed too. When I had money and power, they wanted to be close. When I lost it, they ditched me. But that's how people are. Women like that, better steer clear."
Everett's face darkened.
So, Olivia was all about chasing power and money.
Everett asked, "Anyone else? Who else did Olivia date?"
Wallace's eyes darted around, and he lowered his voice, "Not sure, but last time a rich company in Silverwood was renovating a villa, I heard Olivia later dated someone from the Jones family. But then, some big shot came to Whisperlyn City, and the Jones guy sent Olivia to keep him company. One was cool with his girl being with another dude, and she was cool with it too. People said there was a video. They all called Olivia a slut."
Everett crushed the paper cup in his hand, veins popping.
Wallace flinched. "I just heard about it, not sure if it's true."
"What about Cassie?" Everett asked.
Wallace said, "Cassie used to be the chief designer at Height Company. Then she left. You see that landmark building in Silverwood? A bunch of construction companies fought for that project. During the bidding, it came out that Cassie plagiarized a designer from Height Company. She got roasted for it. She even applied to our company, but our boss didn't dare hire her. The Brooks family said anyone who hired her would be going against them. Back then, Height Company had some serious clout."
