Chapter 786

Joseph followed, watching Cassie's resolute figure. He felt that there were some words that, if not clarified, might truly lose Cassie forever. "Don't go, I actually... I've liked you before."

This was the first time Joseph had completely expressed his true thoughts.

Cassie paused, and Joseph whispered sadly, "I can't say it because I have a long history with Megan, and I owe her a lot. I can't betray her, so I have to choose to divorce you. I don't know why my feelings changed. I just find myself wanting to be with you and feeling upset when I see you with Liam, Tyler."

"Is that the truth?" Cassie's eyes slightly reddened as she gazed at Joseph with a mocking smile. "Joseph, your connection with Megan runs deep. You claim to have feelings for me, but does it outweigh your sense of guilt towards Megan? The next time Megan says something, you will still heartlessly leave me. Have you heard of the boy who cried wolf? I am the farmer at the foot of the mountain. I no longer have faith in you.""

"No, Megan and I... it's really impossible," Joseph shook his head, and after saying it, he surprisingly felt a sense of relief.

It turned out that Joseph really no longer loved Megan. Being with Megan was always exhausting for him, and even Megan and Joseph's wedding filled Joseph with a sense of oppression.

"Anyway, I don't believe you. I don't want to be your tool  anymore. Stop following me," Cassie said quickly.

She glared at Joseph and quickly walked away.

She seemed afraid that Joseph would catch up.

Joseph looked regretful. He had already expressed his true feelings, but Cassie didn't seem moved at all.

Perhaps Joseph had hurt Cassie too badly.

In the evening, Cassie mentioned this to Laura during dinner.

"Wait, Joseph actually admitted he has a crush on you?"

Laura laughed, "Well, now you have the perfect chance to tease him." Laura teased.
"It's not that easy." Cassie sighed, "You underestimate the feelings between Joseph and Megan. We need to take it slow."

"No way, Megan cheated." Laura felt disgusted at the thought, "Any man wouldn't be able to stand it."

"You underestimated Megan. Did you hear that Megan was released from the police station the next day? Megan probably explained to Joseph that Rex had forced her to do things. That must have calmed Joseph down," Cassie added.

Cassie felt a twinge of regret. She had invested time and effort into investigating Rex, but now he had unexpectedly died. She had hoped for Rex to remain alive to confront Megan. "Looks like I'll need to rethink my strategy."

Just as Laura was about to ask, the doorbell suddenly rang.

She checked the peephole and saw a middle-aged man before opening the door.

"You're Laura, right?" The middle-aged man smiled gently, "I'm the butler of the Jude family."

Laura instinctively tried to close the door, but the butler was quicker than Laura, blocking the door in one swift motion. Following that, two burly bodyguards emerged from the staircase.

"What do you want?" Laura started to feel uncomfortable. Could this be the Jude family coming to trouble her for ruining Michael's reputation last time?

"Laura, calm down. We mean no harm to you; Mr. Jude Junior just wants to chat with you."

"I have nothing to talk about with Mr. Jude Junior. I'm busy." Laura didn't believe a word the steward said.

Laura regretted calling the reporters and causing a scene. She now found it difficult to face the entire Jude family.
