Chapter 1224 Stop Saying That
Cassie just raised an eyebrow and smirked, keeping her mouth shut.
Joseph shot her a look, all suggestive, and said, "Cassie, when you gonna let me pay you back with my body?"
"Can you just focus on driving?" Cassie dodged his question.
"Seriously, you gonna keep living like this with me and not get hitched again?" Joseph's voice had that whiny edge to it.
The more she shined and got all that praise, the prouder he felt, but also more insecure.
After all, they weren't even legally a couple.
"I haven't even divorced yet. How can we remarry?" Cassie shot him a glance. "Besides, why mess with a good thing? We're fine as is."
Joseph went quiet, thinking, 'This ain't good. No marriage means she could dump me anytime.'
Joseph always had a confidence issue. "Cassie, I..."
"We hardly ever get to watch a movie together. Can we drop this and talk about something fun?" Cassie cut him off, pulling out her phone. "Where should we go for the movie?"
"I'm cool with whatever you pick."
Cassie finally picked a theater near the Hernandez House and a 7:30 PM showtime. But once they got in, the place was almost empty, and the movie sucked.
"How'd you pick such a lame movie? No one would wanna watch this." Joseph had never seen such a bad flick. "The 8 PM show has to be better."
"8 PM's too late. The movie's two hours long, and by the time we get home, it'll be almost 11 PM. Oliver and Sophia will be out cold by then, and that's not cool." Cassie shook her head, munching on ice cream.
Joseph's face darkened. "So what if they're asleep? It's just one night. Rosalind can handle them."
Cassie quickly said, "Come on, having kids means we can't do things like before. During the day, Sophia and Oliver have preschool. They want us around, and they'll only be clingy for a few years."
Joseph sighed, "I always wanted a kid with you before we had them. Now they feel like a hassle."
"Joseph, if you keep talking like that, I'm not speaking to you anymore." Cassie pretended to be mad and glared at him.
"Honey, I'm sorry." Joseph quickly leaned in to kiss her. "Baby, your lips are so sweet."
"Of course, I'm eating ice cream." Cassie blushed and pushed him away. "Don't bug me while I'm eating."
She said this and scooped another spoonful into her mouth.
A mischievous glint flashed in Joseph's eyes. "I want some, too."
He said this and blocked her lips with his.
When Cassie realized it, she turned beet red.
In the end, they didn't remember a thing about the movie they were supposed to watch. They just snuggled up and secretly ate ice cream. Luckily, there were only four people in the theater, including another couple sitting far away.
After they stepped out, Joseph was still daydreaming. "Man, I never knew ice cream could taste that good."
Cassie played dumb, knowing the more she engaged, the more embarrassing he'd get.
But Joseph, grinning like a fool, said, "I get it. It's not the ice cream that's sweet; it's you."
"Come on, babe. Let me get another taste." Joseph shamelessly leaned in again.
Out of nowhere, a snarky voice cut in. "Making out with another man while still married, how shameless."
Cassie turned and saw two women giving her the stink eye. The one who spoke was rocking a vintage floral dress—none other than Marigold, who once had a thing for Joseph, Ralph's daughter.
"Marigold, who's she?" Marigold's friend, Sienna Andersen, asked, playing dumb.
"David's wife," Marigold said, throwing a deliberate glance at Joseph.
Lately, all the buzz about Joseph had been in the news. She hadn't expected him to not only take down the Chamberlain Group but also survive the Hernandez Group's investigation. She thought he'd be toast, but he pulled through.
Joseph was scary smart and, to her, even more irresistible.
Just like Ralph had been nagging her lately, if she had snagged Joseph before, Ralph might've had a shot at becoming president.
The more she thought about it, the more she wanted Joseph for herself.
Sienna gasped, covering her mouth. "Are people really this bold about cheating now?"
"Totally. She doesn't care at all. She's got a husband but openly lives with her lover, making out in public. It's shameless. She's a disgrace to all women," Marigold said, not holding back.
Cassie was chill; she'd seen plenty of this kind of trash talk online.
But Joseph's face darkened. "What's it got to do with you? At least we don't stoop to drugging people. How desperate are you? Too bad, even if you stood naked in front of me, I wouldn't be interested."
Marigold was livid. "Joseph, stop slandering me. Let me tell you, my dad got promoted. You better show some respect, or you won't know what hit you."
"Your dad should worry about his career with a dumb daughter like you." Joseph wrapped his arm around Cassie and started to walk away. "Let's bounce."
"Are you scared?" Marigold yelled, "Let me tell you, David won't let you off."
Hearing "David," Joseph and Cassie both stopped and turned back to Marigold.
Seeing this, Marigold smirked triumphantly. "I won't spill the beans now, but you'll find out soon enough. Joseph, if you ever hit rock bottom, come to me. Maybe I'll throw you a bone." With that, she linked arms with Sienna and strutted off.
