Chapter 512

Lucas cast a sidelong glance at Cassie before turning his attention to Joseph. "Will you be attending Joyce's funeral on Sunday?" he asked.

Joseph's response was a silence that hung heavily in the room.

"Should you choose not to, it will only serve to upset Michael further," Lucas warned, rising from his seat. "I must take my leave now..."

"Wait." Cassie's voice halted him in his tracks. She too, stood, her face serious. "There's something we need to discuss."

She presented them with Isla's call records. "This is from when Laura visited Madison Hospital to collect the paternity test results for Joyce and Robert. She encountered Isla there, who had prior connections with Olivia. As Laura was receiving the report, Isla got a call from someone in New York."

Lucas interrupted her, his face darkening. "What are you implying?"

Cassie continued, undeterred. "I believe Isla may have contacted Olivia. She might suspect that I had a DNA test conducted between her and Robert. She knows I had doubts about her identity as Joyce, so she could have switched back to the real Joyce before Joseph had the chance to apprehend her. If you don't believe me, you can verify it yourself..."

Joseph's frosty gaze met hers as he released her hand. "Didn't I tell you to drop this matter?"

"But it's highly suspicious if you just look into it..."

"Enough!" Lucas cut her off, his patience wearing thin. "You urged Joseph to investigate, and as a result, Joyce is dead. A life was lost because of your insistence."

Lucas had held Cassie in high regard before Joyce's death. Now, their friendship was strained to its limits.

"The man behind all this could escape at any moment. We can't afford to ignore anything suspicious. Nina's life is also at stake. If she's framed, her life will be ruined. Lucas, you were once involved with Nina..."

"Being involved with Nina is the biggest regret and source of disgust in my life," Lucas retorted, his words harsh. "She's a venomous woman!"

Cassie felt as though she had been plunged into icy water. Why were these men so obstinate?

"So, you sought me out just for this?" Joseph's voice was laced with anger.

"Joseph, I beg you," Cassie pleaded, her eyes locked on his.

"Leave," Joseph commanded, pointing towards the door.

"It would only take a few seconds to check," Cassie begged, desperate.

"I don't have the time to indulge your whims," Joseph retorted, his headache returning at Cassie's provocation.

" Cassie, you're his wife. Don't agitate him over some insignificant person," Lucas snapped. "Walter, escort her out."

"I'm sorry, Cassie," Walter murmured, guiding her toward the front door and closing it behind them.

Now, she couldn't even see Joseph. How had their relationship deteriorated to this point?

Back in the living room, Lucas advised, "It would be best to avoid her for a while. You two are constantly at odds and it always ends in an argument. Your condition worsens every time you see Cassie."

"Alright." Joseph rubbed his temples, conceding.

Cassie should feel relieved that she didn't have to see him.

Sunday arrived.

In front of the funeral home, a somber ceremony was taking place. Joseph and Lucas, clad in black suits, exited their car and made their way inside. Unbeknownst to them, a pair of triumphant eyes watched from a nearby black car. It was Olivia, who had successfully evaded capture.

"Thankfully, I switched with the real Joyce. They'll never know that it was I who impersonated Joyce all along," Olivia smirked, a sense of victory in her eyes.
