Chapter 1675 The Two Getting Along
Derek watched her smile, feeling the sweetness of the ice cream in his mouth spread to his heart.
The long-awaited love was too wonderful.
In the past, he worked hard and matured to fulfill his parents' wishes.
At this moment, he seemed to have found his own goal for the future.
Afterward, they went to the mall to buy shoes.
She needed a pair of running shoes, and after buying them, she also needed a set of workout clothes.
For women, maintaining a youthful and beautiful figure requires exercise. Although she mostly tried it briefly, she had all the gear.
After picking out her own, she chose a matching pair for Derek.
When they came out of the brand store, Derek was carrying several bags.
He suggested, "Why don't you stay at my place tonight? Do you want to buy some pajamas and clothes for tomorrow morning?"
Laura agreed and then remembered she hadn't informed her parents she wouldn't be coming home tonight.
She thought for a moment and called Rose, "Mom, my new product is launching soon, so I have to work late with my colleagues tonight. I won't be coming home. Can you take care of Maeve for me?"
Rose, feeling concerned, said, "Make sure to rest a bit tonight. Don't overwork yourself."
"There's a sofa in the lab. I'll take a nap there."
Laura sounded convincing. After hanging up, Derek looked at her meaningfully, "You're quite the liar."
"I did it for you." Laura blushed and pinched him, "It's the first time I've lied to my mom for you."
Sometimes, it was best to take what women said with a grain of salt.
Derek's eyes were full of amusement, "I like this kind of lie. Come on, let's get you some makeup. See if there's anything else you think my place is missing."
There were many things missing.
Laura had been to his place several times but had never stayed overnight.
She needed clothes, shoes, skincare products, makeup, her usual shampoo brand, and even new underwear.
Derek checked his phone and realized he had walked over ten thousand steps today.
His long legs were sore, and his arms ached from carrying more than ten bags.
But seeing her so enthusiastic about shopping, he was happy to go along. The more she bought, the more likely she would stay over more often.
"Derek, am I buying too much?" Laura tried to hold his arm but found it difficult with all the bags he was carrying. "I hope I didn't spend all your money."
Would Derek think she was too extravagant?
What if he got scared off before they even got to marriage?
"Do I look that poor?" Derek asked.
"Not really, but I do spend a lot, and I buy expensive things. You're not working right now." Laura hesitated, "I should have paid for it myself."
"If you stay at my place and still have to pay for what you need, what kind of boyfriend would I be?"
Derek laughed, "Don't worry. I may not be as rich as you, but I've invested in many projects with my wealthy friends and classmates. I make as much as your company."
Laura's eyes widened, "Why didn't you ever mention it? You always act poor in front of me."
"If I didn't act a bit poor, you'd feel even more unworthy of me." Derek sighed, "You always think I'm too good for you. That's the trouble with being too perfect. You wouldn't understand."
Laura pinched him several more times.
Derek, carrying the bags, couldn't dodge. He realized she liked to pinch when she was unhappy, but luckily, it didn't hurt much. Her angry look was quite cute.
"Explain everything when we get back. What other projects have you invested in?"
Laura warned, "By the way, I need to go to the supermarket to buy some food."
"Can I put these in the car first?" Derek asked.
At ten o'clock at night, Derek drove back with a full load.
After entering the apartment, Derek was still in the elevator moving things.
There was no other way; there was just too much stuff.
Laura turned on the living room light. Not much had changed, but the study and master bedroom had more things, and the fridge was stocked with groceries like milk, eggs, and meat.
It was clear Derek knew how to live seriously.
"Are you satisfied, boss?" Derek joked, looking around as soon as he entered, just like a boss inspecting.
"Not bad."
As soon as Laura finished speaking, Derek scooped her up and carried her to the bedroom.
She gasped and struggled, "Derek, put me down."
"No."
Derek had been holding back for a long time and couldn't wait any longer.
He placed her on the bed and started taking off his shirt.
Seeing his exposed chest muscles, Laura's face turned red, "Wait, let me take a shower first."
"Later," Derek said in a husky, seductive voice as he bent down to kiss her, "It's not like we haven't done this before."
"No, I want to shower first," Laura insisted.
Derek paused, looking at her for a long moment, "Fine, we'll shower together."
He picked her up again and headed to the bathroom.
Laura was bewildered.
"No, I don't want to," she protested.
"Too bad, I've already compromised once. I won't do it again."
Derek closed the door with his foot.
Soon, soft sounds came from inside.
When they came out, Laura's eyes were bright and alluring, making anyone who saw her feel weak.
Derek dried her hair with a blow dryer, then eagerly unplugged it and kissed her hard.
For the first time, they made their relationship public, and it felt like a weight had been lifted.
They no longer had to worry about being judged or their parents' disapproval.
Laura, being with him for so long, felt light-hearted for the first time.
They no longer had to worry about being discovered.
They could finally enjoy their love.
Perhaps because of this new mindset, they were more passionate than ever.
That night, they made love for a long, long time.
The next day, when Laura woke up, her body felt like it had been run over by a truck.
But the satisfaction and sweetness were beyond words.
She turned over, and Derek's side of the bed was empty.
