Chapter 1617 Remarriage
"He wouldn't be afraid. For Megan, he even abandoned his ex-wife and daughter."
"Is he crazy?"
Michael seemed to have lost his soul.
He just let everyone talk. Because even he himself was disgusted with himself.
Over the past decade, what kind of demon had he fallen in love with?
It was only today that he finally saw it clearly.
In the parking lot, Joseph opened the car door and, before getting in, suddenly said to everyone, "You guys go ahead to the yacht. Cassie and I need to go to the City Clerk's Office to get our marriage paperwork done first."
Not only Cassie, but everyone else was also stunned.
Laura's eyes widened, and she excitedly grabbed Cassie's arm and screamed, "Why are you telling me this important news now? And didn't you promise to wait for me? Are you planning to get married without me?"
Cassie blinked her beautiful eyes in confusion.
Joseph wrapped his arm around Cassie's waist and said domineeringly, "She promised me that once Megan was sentenced, she would remarry me."
"But does it have to be now?" Cassie said speechlessly, "Besides, I didn't bring my passport."
"I brought it for you." Joseph pointed to the two passports in his jacket pocket.
Cassie fell silent.
"Don't worry, registering for marriage won't take long, and it's on the way." With that, Joseph took Cassie into the car and left.
Laura got into her sports car, feeling frustrated and disappointed.
Just as the car left the courthouse, Derek called, "Congratulations, I saw the live stream. Megan was sentenced to death."
The response was silence.
Derek was puzzled, "Why aren't you saying anything? Shouldn't you be happy?"
"I am happy," Laura said sulkily, "but Cassie and Joseph just went to register their marriage. They're getting remarried, and suddenly I don't feel so happy."
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line, then Derek said seriously, "How about I bring my passport too, and we go register our marriage?"
"Are you crazy?" Laura was startled, then laughed and scolded, "You want to marry me? Dream on."
"It's not impossible," Derek laughed, "I'm always ready to walk down the aisle with you."
With his interruption, Laura's mood lightened, though she felt a bit flustered, "But I'm not ready. We haven't been dating for long."
"I know, I'm just expressing my feelings," Derek said softly, "Actually, Cassie and Joseph have been living together for a long time and have two kids. To outsiders, they're already a married couple. Now that they're remarrying, it just makes it official, and their kids will be very happy."
"That's true," Laura pouted, "I just feel like Joseph is getting off too easy. He hurt Cassie so much before, and now they're getting remarried so quickly. It's too easy for him."
"As long as they're happy, nothing else matters. And Cassie is so smart; if she's willing to let go, it means she truly loves Joseph."
"That's true."
Laura knew her situation with Cassie was different. She and Michael got together because of her pregnancy, while Joseph and Cassie got pregnant because they loved each other. Joseph had never physically betrayed Cassie.
"By the way, we're going to the yacht to celebrate later. Do you want to come with me? Do you have time?"
Derek chuckled, "This is the first time you've invited me to meet your friends. I have to come."
"Aren't you busy?"
"I knew you guys would celebrate today, so I finished my work early to come along and prevent you from drinking too much," Derek said softly, "I've been waiting for you all day."
"Smart move," Laura felt sweet inside. He always thought of everything, "Hurry up and come over."
When they got to the yacht, Bernice and Lucas were already there.
Both of them had changed clothes.
Bernice was wearing a white long T-shirt and floral chiffon pants. She was tall and had great skin, and no matter what she wore, her star quality was undeniable.
Laura blinked, "I finally understand why every time you wear something casually, people online try to imitate you. Seeing your outfit makes me want to wear the same thing."
"I find pants more comfortable," Bernice explained with a faint smile, "There's a dressing room with new clothes."
"That's true," Laura's gaze shifted to Lucas, who was leaning against the railing. He was dressed in thin white clothes, his short hair tousled by the sea breeze, but it didn't affect his handsomeness at all. In fact, it added a bit of wild charm to his already striking face.
Laura rarely saw Lucas like this and couldn't help but gasp at his handsomeness.
She leaned over to Bernice and whispered, "I have to say, Lucas's face is one in a million. His body is great too. When the wind blew just now, I could see his abs."
Bernice was speechless. She knew Lucas's body better than anyone, but she didn't feel anything, "It's just okay."
Laura gave her a meaningful look, "I get it. When you see it often, it does become just okay."
Bernice was silent.
She felt a bit awkward. Cassie already knew about her relationship with Lucas, so it was normal for Laura to know too.
"Don't overthink it," Laura put her arm around Bernice's shoulder, "He says he's making love to you, but aren't you also making love to him? Everyone's just fulfilling their sexual needs. It's no big deal."
Bernice was silent.
She could tell Laura was trying to comfort her, but she wanted to say that she didn't actually have any sexual needs.
Not long after, Joseph came up with Cassie, both of them looking very happy, especially Joseph, who was beaming, "Come, take a look at our marriage certificate. We just took the photo. Does it look good?"
Cassie laughed and nudged him with her elbow, "Enough already."
"Yeah," Laura said deliberately, "It's not like I haven't seen a marriage certificate before. I even have a divorce decree."
Joseph's face stiffened, and Cassie couldn't help but laugh, "What a coincidence, I have one too."
"Cassie," Joseph said with a wounded look.
"Alright, no more jokes. Congratulations on your wedding," Bernice raised her glass, "Cherish your wife. Just because she's giving you another chance doesn't mean there will be a second one."
"I definitely won't. I'll cherish her," Joseph said, holding Cassie tightly, "I'll spend my whole life loving her."
