Chapter 1072 Cassie, I'm Really Happy
Joseph lowered his eyes, his handsome face showing sadness, loneliness, and grievance. He looked utterly defeated and pitiful.
He shifted his body and let go of Cassie.
Cassie was stunned for a moment, looking at his sorrowful expression, and suddenly felt regretful.
She thought to herself, 'Maybe I have gone too far, even though I was joking.'
"Joseph..." Cassie was speechless.
"Cassie, I didn't expect you to say something like that." Joseph suddenly placed his hands on either side of her ears, smirking. "Since that's the case, I can only prove it with my actions."
Caught off guard by him, Cassie was dumbfounded. She snapped back to reality and hurriedly covered his mouth in annoyance. "Joseph, can't you see I'm still in the hospital?"
"You keep provoking me, so I can only prove myself to you." Joseph's tone was filled with a mischievous charm.
"Scoundrel." Cassie glared at him, her cheeks burning.
She regretted her moment of weakness, snorting, "It's all your fault. If it weren't for you, my reputation wouldn't be ruined."
"They are talking nonsense. You're just being faithful." Joseph suddenly looked at her with a smile. "Cassie, did you really never do it with David?"
"Why are you asking this? It's none of your business." Cassie turned her face away unkindly, remembering how she used to mock Joseph that he wasn't as good as David. Now, she felt embarrassed.
"Of course, it's my business. So, from the start, I'm the only man you've ever had." Joseph observed her embarrassed expression and laughed, his eyes curving in a childlike manner.
"Cassie, I'm really happy." He kissed her gently, again and again. "You're such a liar. You made me think you had a sexual relationship with David."
"Don't flatter yourself. It's none of your business," Cassie retorted.
"Is that so?" Joseph raised an eyebrow with a mischievous smile, clearly not believing her. "Cassie, you say you don't love me, but you only have sex with me. Actually, we've always had each other in our hearts."
Cassie chuckled. "If you want to think that way, then you do."
"Alright." Joseph kissed her a couple more times.
Cassie's face was covered in wounds, and she winced in pain several times.
"I'm sorry. Does it hurt? I won't kiss you anymore." Joseph was startled and quickly stroked her hair to comfort her.
Cassie was speechless. Although she hadn't looked in the mirror, she knew that she must look terrible. The fact that Joseph could still kiss her made her admire him.
"Joseph, help me up. I feel uncomfortable all over. I want to take a shower," Cassie said softly.
"Okay, I've already prepared your clothes." Joseph took out a set of clean clothes.
Cassie got out of bed, and Joseph helped her into the bathroom, then closed the door behind them.
"What are you doing?" Cassie was a bit dumbfounded.
"Helping you take a shower. Do you have the strength to do it yourself?" Joseph naturally rolled up his sleeves.
"Get out!" Cassie, embarrassed and angry, tried to push him away, but after a few steps, her legs gave out, and she fell into his arms.
"Actually, I wasn't planning on leaving, so you don't need to throw yourself at me," Joseph smirked.
Cassie was so angry that her face hurt.
Finally, Joseph helped her take a shower, changed her into clean clothes, and carried her out.
Cassie was glad her face was swollen; otherwise, she would have blushed all the time.
After they came out, Joseph's phone rang. It was Oliver and Sophia calling. They had been worried about Cassie and had stayed up all night.
Sophia asked, "Daddy, how's Mommy? Where are you? I'm so worried about Mommy."
Oliver's voice came through. "We want to see Mommy. Where are you?"
"Mommy is with me." Joseph handed the phone to Cassie, and she said softly, "Oliver, Sophia, I'm fine now. Don't worry."
"Mommy." Sophia choked up upon hearing her voice. "Mommy, you scared us. Last night, Spencer said David harmed you. Spencer asked Daddy for the antidote. Are you poisoned? You seem so weak now."
Oliver asked, "Did Daddy detoxify you, Mommy? What kind of poison did you get? Is it serious?"
Sophia continued, "Since when does Daddy know medicine? Isn't Lucas the only doctor?"
Seeing Joseph's amused face, Cassie felt embarrassed. "Lucas asked Joseph to bring me to the hospital. After all, Lucas is a renowned doctor, and we didn't need to wait in line at the hospital."
"I see. I thought Daddy knew how to treat patients. That would be amazing," Sophia said, then started crying again, "Why did David poison you? He's so evil. Mommy, we're coming to the hospital to see you."
"No, last time you almost got into a car accident. Don't run around and make me worry, okay? I'll come to see you as soon as I'm discharged," Cassie gently persuaded.
"Mommy, did you call the police?" Oliver asked worriedly, "David harmed you. Let the police arrest him."
"Don't worry. David's already at the police station." Cassie didn't want them to know too much and tried to comfort them as much as possible.
"Mommy, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have let you marry David." Oliver felt extremely guilty. "He's a bad guy."
"Oliver, it's not your fault. I was deceived, too. We've learned a lesson and can better protect those around us in the future," Cassie advised, "Stay at Grandma's house for now, and don't go anywhere, okay?"
"Okay," Oliver and Sophia replied.
After finally calming Oliver and Sophia, Cassie hung up the phone, only to see Joseph looking at her with a gentle smile.
"What are you looking at?" Cassie was annoyed by his stare, especially after seeing her ugly face in the bathroom mirror earlier. She felt completely uncomfortable. "Joseph, I look so ugly now. Can you stop staring at me?"
"You're not ugly at all," Joseph teased, "Look at your lips, like sausages that make people want to take a bite. Your face is like a freshly baked hamburger, making people hungry."
