Chapter 535
Joseph found himself pressing a hand to his temple, his voice gentle as he spoke. "Megan, you too can find happiness. There's someone who has been watching over you all this time."
"Are you referring to Michael?" Megan's voice held a complex mixture of emotions.
"He did harbor feelings for you in the past," Joseph confirmed.
"Michael deserves better than me. I'm not worthy of him. Joseph, you should continue with your work. I'll visit your mansion tonight."
With that, the call ended, leaving Joseph alone with his thoughts. He sighed heavily, a weight on his chest. He had hoped that Megan would find someone else soon, so that Cassie could finally find peace, and he could alleviate his guilt.
---
In the offices of Peace Group, Cassie was reviewing the company's performance. She was surprised to find that it had significantly improved during her absence.
Charles, her assistant, couldn't help but smile. "Joseph truly lives up to his reputation as the wealthiest man in Madison. Despite only dedicating a small portion of his day to Peace Group, his business acumen is remarkable. His directives have generated substantial profits for the company. Our properties across the country are selling like hotcakes."
Cassie couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy.
Damn, Joseph was not only incredibly handsome, but his business talents were also exceptional. It made her, the chairwoman, feel somewhat insignificant.
"Why has our company, despite operating in New York for almost half a year, not made any progress in other areas?" Cassie asked, her tone laced with discontent.
Charles sighed, " Cassie, Clark leveraged Vera's position as our vice president. Now, Leo's group and the Chamberlain family are on the verge of forming an alliance. In essence, all the prime properties have fallen into the hands of the Jayden family."
Cassie raised an eyebrow, her fingers lightly tapping the table. "Patience," she said.
Once the news that Luna was not Leo Chapman's daughter became public, she would see how long the Jayden family could maintain their arrogance.
" Cassie, you used to have a close relationship with the Zenith family. They've appointed a new CEO today. Should you call and congratulate them?" Charles suggested.
Cassie looked surprised. "Who?"
"Nathan. He's William's eldest son from his previous marriage. I heard that Nathan wasn't particularly competent, but it seems the Hernandez Group agreed to supply the latest chips as soon as he took office," Charles explained.
Cassie was taken aback. It was hard to believe that someone as despicable as Nathan had taken over Nina's position. She suspected that Joseph and Megan had a hand in this.
In the past, she and Nina had both pursued Joseph, but he had always held onto his ties with the Zenith family. Now that Megan was back, Nathan was the CEO, and the chips had been distributed.
Even if Joseph had no intentions of reconciling with Megan, he still harbored feelings for her. If it weren't for the child, Megan would have held a higher place in his heart than Cassie. She took a deep breath, reminding herself, "Don't get angry. I have to keep my composure for the babies."
Just as she was mulling over these thoughts, a message from Joseph popped up on her Facebook: [Baby, how was your first day at work? Is there anything uncomfortable? Are you hungry? Do you want anything to eat? I'll have Walter bring it over.]
Cassie tossed her phone aside, deciding to ignore Joseph for the time being.
