Chapter 402

Edward's gaze swept over the stern faces of the Hernandez family, seeking any sign of support. Finding none, he quickly retorted, "I'm not being unreasonable here. You've broken my arm, it's only fair that I get to break one of yours. And as for your wife's flirtations, it was utterly distasteful. My wife is livid. Let her slap Cassie, and we'll call it even."

Cassie's laughter rang out in response to his accusation. "You're accusing me of seduction, but your claim is baseless. There are cameras everywhere. Review the footage, and you'll see I never laid a finger on you."

Edward's fury was palpable. "Are you implying that I'm framing you, you freak?"

"Edward has no need to frame you, given his status. Yet, you still deny everything. One slap seems too lenient," Mr. Whitmore chimed in, adding insult to injury.

Luna feigned helplessness, "Sis, just apologize and don't do this sort of thing again, okay?"

A mocking smile played at the corners of Cassie's mouth. "To put it bluntly, you're just trying to put us in our place today. The truth doesn't actually matter to you, does it?"

"If Miss Brooks insists on seeing it that way, there's nothing we can do," Felix said, his tone gloomy. "But wrongdoings must be met with deserved lessons, right Joseph?"

All eyes turned expectantly to Joseph, his handsome face a picture of calm. Once, this man, elevated like a deity, was regarded as unattainable by everyone in Madison. But a fallen god is something everybody wants to step on, their faces alight with schadenfreude.

Under the weight of their stares, Joseph's deep eyes turned towards his family. "Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, do you agree with their suggestion?"

To the Hernandez family, it seemed as though Joseph was indirectly pleading for their aid.

Mildred's lips twitched with reluctance. "I think..."

"It's time he learned his lesson," Walter interjected, resting a hand on her shoulder. "We, the Hernandezes, have been too lenient and have let his arrogance grow unchecked."

Celeste's face was a picture of triumph. "Joseph, who would've thought you'd end up like this? Dream on if you expect us to bail you out after the way you treated us last time."

"Mom, what do you say?" Joseph's gaze was fixed on Mabel, who couldn't meet his eyes. His dark lashes hung slightly lowered, casting a faint shadow beneath his eyelids.

Cassie's heart ached for him. Her fingers instinctively reached out to clasp his hand. She knew the pain of being abandoned by family all too well.

He glanced back at her.

Edward was beyond smug. "You heard that, right? Stretch out your hand, and let's go with the right one."

Rising to his feet, Joseph's gaze swept over the crowd. A sly smile curled on his thin, well-crafted lips. "Actually, there's something I forgot to mention, and since all of New York's elite are here, let me introduce myself properly."

He produced a gold-embossed business card from his trouser pocket. “I’m the founder, chairman, and CEO of Summer Group.”

The Summer Group... In less than five years, it soared to a formidable status, already ranking just below Hernandez Group in the electronics industry in Madison.
