Chapter 1627 Derek Is Too Cunning

Afterwards, Derek went downstairs again to help Laura move her things.

Even though Laura had only lived in the Presidential Palace for a few months, she had accumulated a lot of stuff, especially Maeve's crib and toys.

By the time they finished moving, it was already past five in the afternoon.

Rose warmly said, "Derek, Thank you a lot for your help. Stay for dinner tonight. I'll cook."

"Then I'll take you up on that," Derek replied with a cheerful nod.

When Laura came downstairs after organizing her things, she saw Derek and Rose chatting and laughing in the kitchen.

Rose was cooking while Derek was washing vegetables, peeling ginger, garlic, and chopping vegetables. He was also chatting with Rose, making her laugh heartily from time to time.

"You're so capable, more so than both Elliott and Laura," Rose said, beaming. "And you're so handsome. How come you don't have a girlfriend yet? Whoever becomes your girlfriend will be very lucky."

Derek shyly smiled, "You can't rush these things. I want to marry the woman I truly love."

"So, tell me, what kind of girl do you like?" Rose asked, without suggesting any introductions. Derek was the president's son, and she didn't dare to overstep by suggesting a match for him.

"I can't really say. I don't think you can describe it with a set framework. If I truly love her, even if she has many flaws, I would still like her. Loving someone means loving all of her," Derek explained.

"Exactly, you're absolutely right," Rose praised. "When I was with Laura's dad, he had many flaws, but I still liked him. This kind of love can last a lifetime. Beauty and youth are fleeting."

"I think so too," Derek agreed.

Laura, who was silently eavesdropping from behind the door, was speechless.

She felt that Derek was very cunning.

In such a short time, Derek had already won her mom's favor.

Not long after, Elliott came back. Seeing the scene in the kitchen, he was surprised. After the surprise, his face turned a bit heavy.

He remembered the last time he drank with Derek, he got so drunk that he ended up doing something he shouldn't have with Julia.

Thinking about that, his mood worsened.

Luke, however, didn't notice and instructed Elliott, "Go to the wine cellar downstairs and bring up a bottle of wine. We have a guest tonight; we can't be without wine."

Elliott hesitated, "Dad, there's no need. Derek won't be able to drive home if he drinks."

"That's what drivers are for. Besides, if necessary, he can sleep here. We have plenty of rooms," Luke said seriously. "Elliott, why are you being so immature all of a sudden? We have a guest; we must offer wine, whether they drink it or not. And Derek's family has helped us a lot. He even personally brought Laura over today. Look, he's still helping your mom in the kitchen."

Elliott remained silent.

Luke sighed, "I used to dislike people from the Jude family, but Derek is an exception. The more I get to know him, the more I like him. Why didn't Laura marry him? And you two should learn from Derek. He's so diligent, unlike you two who don't even want to step into the kitchen."

"By the way, Elliott, have a good drink with Derek later. Thanks to him, our company can now stabilize in Whisperlyn City and even buy such a nice house."

"Alright, Dad, I'll get the wine," Elliott said, quickly heading to the wine cellar. But just thinking about drinking with Derek made his stomach churn, so he took his time and picked out two bottles of red wine.

At seven in the evening, Rose had prepared a table full of dishes.

Luke had already opened the wine, "Derek, let's have a drink together."

"Luke, I'd like to, but I drove here," Derek quickly said.

"No worries, we have a driver. You can also sleep here; we have plenty of rooms," Luke insisted. "Laura stayed at your place for a few months. You staying here for a night is no big deal."

"Yes, and Elliott has plenty of new pajamas," Rose added. "I'll have a little drink too. Tonight is our first meal in the villa; let's celebrate."

"Alright then, since you all insist, I'll drink," Derek said, standing up. "I'll pour the wine."

Elliott quickly stood up too, "I'll do it. You're the guest today."

He was afraid of Derek pouring the wine.

Without waiting for Derek's agreement, he took the wine bottle.

Laura, who had to take care of the baby, was excused from drinking.

So she happily ate and fed Maeve milk on the side.

Maeve was very happy with the crowd. Even though it was a new place, she remained cheerful.

Mother and daughter watched the men drink and chat. Luke was in a good mood, "Derek, I never thought this day would come. I never imagined our Miller Group could stabilize in Whisperlyn City."

Derek quietly listened to Luke, occasionally saying a few words, making Luke feel very attentive and comfortable. Despite being in his twenties, Derek knew a lot about business, politics, and even international affairs.

By nine in the evening, the three men had finished three bottles of red wine.

Luke wanted Elliott to get more wine, but Derek stopped him, "Luke, you shouldn't drink more. It's bad for your health. If you like, I can come back and drink with you another time."

"You're so mature," Luke said, liking him even more. "It's late. Stay the night."

"Well," Derek hesitated.

"It's not safe to go back at night. I've already made your bed," Rose said with a smile.

"I'm troubling you again," Derek said with a hint of drunkenness, looking embarrassed.

Laura watched from the side, secretly thinking that he was pretending.

He was eager to stay.

That night, Derek stayed in a guest room on the first floor.

Laura, with Maeve, slept on the second floor. After putting Maeve to sleep, she suddenly received a Facebook message from Derek: [Baby, I can't sleep. Can I come to your room?]

Laura widened her eyes: [Are you crazy?]

Derek: [I can come after midnight. Don't worry, your family drank a lot tonight; they'll sleep soundly.]

Laura: [You made my family drink on purpose, you scheming man.]

Derek sent an innocent emoji: [I'm wronged! Your dad made me drink. If I hadn't stopped him, he would have drunk even more.]
