Chapter 1106 Bernice Ramsey
Cassie sighed.
Mabel was way off base. Since she got married, she should've kept her distance from Marcus. No wonder Cameron kept misunderstanding her.
In relationships, the more they cared, the more fragile trust became.
Just like it was between Cassie and Joseph before.
But unlike Mabel and Cameron, Joseph never had a thing with Megan, no kids, no marriage. Otherwise, Cassie wouldn't have given him a second chance.
"Does Mabel know Liam is Cameron's son?" Cassie asked.
Joseph shook his head. "I didn't tell her. She couldn't handle the shock."
If she knew Liam wasn't Marcus's kid, Mabel might lose it.
"Yeah, Liam's gone. Telling her now would be too much," Cassie said, thinking about Mabel. "If it were me, I'd probably want to take Marcus down with me. She gave so much for him, only to end up a joke."
"So let's keep it a secret," Joseph said, holding her hand. "Cassie, I think I'm luckier than my mom. My dad was right; you're smart and stopped me from marrying Megan. If I found out the truth later, I'd be crushed."
"I didn't want to stop you. I just didn't want Megan to win," Cassie said, giving him a look.
Joseph, frustrated, squeezed her hand, looking a bit sad. "You weren't jealous at all back then?"
"I'm not jealous," Cassie said firmly. "You treated me like that and still expect me to be jealous? Are you dreaming or overestimating yourself? Or should we dig up old issues?"
Joseph panicked. "Baby, please don't bring up old stuff. It was my fault. I was ungrateful. You giving me another chance is more than I deserve."
Cassie wasn't mad but let out a cold laugh.
"Cassie, we should cherish the present," Joseph said, stroking her hand.
"True," Cassie nodded. "At least Sophia and Oliver are safe with me. That's my biggest happiness."
Joseph asked gloomily, "Is it just Sophia and Oliver for you? What about me?"
"You?" Cassie raised an eyebrow, half-smiling. "You're a just a freebie. I can do without you, but I'll keep you around."
Joseph felt hurt, thinking, 'Am I the extra? Shouldn't Sophia and Oliver be the extras?'
But he didn't dare say it, afraid he'd be tossed out.
"Okay, I'm a freebie," Joseph said with a forced smile.
Seeing his forced smile, Cassie couldn't bear to tease him more.
"Cassie, we should cherish each other. Come back to the Hernandez family with me tonight."
"Take me back to the Chapman family," Cassie interrupted. "I'm still not divorced. It's not right to stay at the Hernandez family every day. Plus, we're not married."
Joseph was silent for a moment. "Then I'll go back to the Chapman family with you."
"Do you want Aiden to break your legs?" Cassie asked, knowing Aiden was totally capable. "He dislikes both David and you."
"So when can I sleep with you?" Joseph asked, sounding frustrated and hurt.
Cassie blushed. "Joseph, do you want to break up? We just got back together last night, and now you want to sleep with me? Sorry, not happening. Maybe you should find someone else."
"I was wrong, Cassie. I won't say anything stupid again," Joseph said, quickly slapping his face. "I just don't want to be apart from you. Being alone drives me crazy thinking about you."
In the car, with just the two of them, he kept pouring out sweet words.
Cassie, no matter how calm, felt her face heating up.
To distract herself, she turned on the radio. It was broadcasting entertainment news, "Next, let's talk about the upcoming drama 'The Whispering Shadows' by famous director Callie Gray. Her previous films have broken Madison's box office records and created several award-winning actresses. Many artists are vying for the lead role in 'The Whispering Shadows.' But it looks like the lead might go to Sarah, with Bernice Ramsey as another possibility."
Hearing Sarah's name, Cassie perked up.
She didn't expect Sarah to plan a comeback after being out of the spotlight for a while.
The radio host continued, "Sarah has quite a background. She started as a singer and won a film award last year. She's reportedly about to marry Mr. Nelson, the future head of the Nelson family. With their backing, Sarah has a great chance of landing the role. However, netizens think Bernice is more suitable for the lead. Although criticized for her acting skills three years ago, Bernice has improved a lot and become more composed. Her popularity has soared. Regardless of who stars in 'The Whispering Shadows,' we hope Ms. Gray produces another masterpiece."
After the news, Cassie lost interest in listening. She took out her phone and searched for Bernice.
Even a casual street shot of Bernice was stunning, her eyes cold and sharp.
Cassie thought, 'She's naturally suited for stardom.'
But Bernice seemed familiar, like Cassie had seen her somewhere before.
Looking at Bernice's old photos, Cassie was surprised. Bernice used to have long blonde hair and a sweet, energetic smile.
Now, Bernice seemed like a completely different person.
