Chapter 98

"Was this some cruel joke of fate?

Arthur's uncle had fallen for her, yet she had married the wrong man!

And now, with her heart still bruised, she couldn't fathom starting a new relationship.

""I... I'm sorry, Mr. Foster. I... I just see you as a friend.""

""That's alright, it's good to be considered a friend."" David's heart sank, but he still managed a smile. ""No worries. I didn't confess to make you accept me today, just to clear the air about my feelings so I can pursue you.""

Cassie felt a headache coming on, ""But I'm not looking to date right now, I just want to focus on work.""

""I can wait. Come on, have a seat and let's order,"" David said gallantly, pulling out a chair for her.

With no argument left, Cassie silently began to look over the menu.

Outside the restaurant's window at the intersection, a Ferrari waited for the traffic light.

Joseph, in the passenger seat, glanced out the window, and his dark pupils suddenly fixed.

""Turn left and let's eat at that restaurant by the curb.""

""Uh, that's probably not a good idea. We have a client meeting scheduled,"" Noah said, following his gaze and quickly realizing why the atmosphere in the car had just plummeted—it was jealousy.

""Just cancel it,"" Joseph commanded with an icy tone.

Reluctantly, Noah turned the car and parked.

When the two men appeared at the restaurant's entrance, the hosting staff did a double-take.

It was rare to see two such young, handsome men dining here — could they be... a couple?

The staff hid their disappointment well, asking professionally, ""Would you gentlemen like a table for two in our couples' section?""

Noah stumbled a bit.

""No thanks,"" Joseph remarked emotionlessly, heading straight toward Cassie's table.

With each step closer, he could see more clearly—she was dining with another man in a place like this.

They had never had this moment, and damn it, she was smiling so brightly.

""That's Wit Group's David, isn't it? He wanted to discuss a potential project with you,"" Noah exclaimed.

""No wonder he looked familiar,"" Joseph's expression turned even colder.

No wonder she'd been nagging for a divorce—she'd snagged herself a new man.

Look at her now, wrapped in a matcha green knit top that hugged her curves in all the right places, sparking endless fantasies. Not to mention, her new curly hairdo brought a refined charm to her already beautiful features.

Cassie was deep in conversation with David about some exotic international places when an inexplicable chill cut through the air. Then, a hand landed on the back of the empty chair next to her, leading her gaze up to a wrist sporting a watch of some nondescript brand. It was simple and understated, yet somehow, due to the admirable beauty of the wrist it sat on, it gave off the illusion of a world-renowned timepiece.

She remembered only Joseph wore a watch like that...

No sooner had the thought crossed her mind than Joseph pulled out the chair and took a seat. Dressed in a khaki checkered waistcoat over a crisp white shirt with a patterned tie, his chiseled features were complemented by an innate air of aristocracy that made David, the refined and handsome gentleman he was, seem almost dull in comparison.

She could somewhat understand now why Laura had gotten the two men mixed up. Indeed, when together, most eyes naturally gravitated towards Joseph and struggled to look away."
