Chapter 1112 The Rift
Bernice stayed quiet.
But the pale mask looked super creepy in the dim light.
Nathan had been locked up forever, never seeing daylight, almost losing it. He yelled, "It must be Megan. Get her here. I'm her brother."
"I bet she's disgusted to have a brother like you," Bernice said coolly. "You keep dragging her down. She's warned you. If you weren't such a troublemaker, she wouldn't be in this mess. You can't even handle simple stuff."
"I messed up. It's my fault." Nathan, hearing her, was sure Megan had him kidnapped.
Others might not know, but he knew Megan was ruthless, with some shady people backing her.
"I won't mess up again. Tell her I'll behave," Nathan cried. "Lucas already taught me a lesson. I'm miserable. For the sake of being her brother, let me go."
Bernice's eyes flickered. She didn't expect Lucas to beat Nathan.
She thought, 'Isn't Lucas always protecting Megan?'
"Too bad, it's too late," Bernice said coldly. "This might be the last time I come here. Do you know why?"
A terrifying thought hit Nathan.
He broke down, snot and tears everywhere. "No, please. Just let me go. I'll give you money, I still have money."
"Thanks, but no. In our line of work, we follow rules. We get paid to solve problems." Bernice pulled out a knife and lightly grazed his face.
A foul smell filled the air.
Nathan was so scared he wet himself.
"You're such a waste of a man," Bernice laughed coldly.
"Yes, I'm a waste. I beg you," Nathan cried.
"It's useless," Bernice raised the dagger.
In despair, Nathan started cursing, "Megan, you bitch. I've helped you so much. You'll die in your boots."
Before he could finish, the dagger plunged into his chest.
Nathan felt a bit of pain and then fainted from fear.
Bernice pulled out the dagger. It was specially made, retracting after only going in a little.
She was just scaring Nathan, though she loathed him and wished to kill him.
As expected, he couldn't handle it.
If it weren't for him, William and Esmeralda wouldn't have died.
Thinking of this, rage surged in Bernice's eyes. "Nathan, Megan, I'll make sure your fate is worse than death."
"Ms. Ramsey," Logan walked in.
"Take him out, find a secluded place, and pretend to bury him when he's about to wake up. Give him a chance to escape," Bernice instructed calmly.
"We worked hard to catch him, why let him escape?"
"Just doing a favor for a friend." Bernice's eyes softened gradually.
"Rare, you have friends," Logan said, surprised.
"Yes, a long time ago, but we haven't been in touch." Bernice lowered her voice slightly. But she wouldn't forget the warmth extended to her in her most desperate times.
Even though she didn't like Joseph, since Cassie had recently made up with him, she didn't mind helping out.
"Once Nathan escapes, we can't use this place anymore. Move to a new location soon," Bernice instructed.
"Got it." After Bernice left, Logan took Nathan to the back mountain.
When Nathan was about to wake up, Logan pretended to dig a grave seriously with a shovel.
Nathan woke up and immediately realized Logan was going to bury him.
He thought he was dead, but he wasn't.
Ignoring the pain in his chest, he ran.
"Hey, stop!" Logan noticed and immediately chased after him.
Nathan ran quickly towards the village at the foot of the mountain, shouting for help.
Seeing the situation, Logan stopped chasing and ran in another direction.
After reaching the village, Nathan borrowed a phone. He wanted to call an ambulance but thought Megan might find out he escaped, so he called the police first.
At the police station, he reported the incident. The police went to the location he mentioned but found no suspicious people.
"It was Megan who had me kidnapped," Nathan said immediately. "She wants to kill me. You need to arrest her quickly."
The police frowned, seeing his frantic state, and asked, "You say Megan wants to kill you. Do you have any evidence?"
"Yes, the person who kidnapped me admitted it," Nathan said quickly.
"But we didn't see the person who kidnapped you," the police said. "And did you see her in person?"
"No, but it must be her," Nathan stammered. "You need to arrest her quickly. She'll kill me."
"Mr. Zenith, you didn't see her in person, and we didn't see the kidnapper. Your word alone couldn't be considered evidence," the police said clearly. "We'll increase our efforts to find the kidnapper. You should go to the hospital or notify your family."
"I have no family." Nathan didn't dare contact Megan now.
In his eyes, Megan was someone who wanted him dead.
Thinking of how ruthless Megan was, wanting to kill Nathan, her own brother, filled him with resentment.
Nathan cursed inwardly, 'Megan, if you won't let me live well, I won't let you live well either.'
After being sent to the hospital, he immediately called Joseph.
"Hello."
"Mr. Hernandez, it's Nathan," he shouted.
Hearing Nathan's voice, Joseph's tone turned cold. "You still dare to call me?"
"Mr. Hernandez, help, Megan wants to kill me," Nathan pleaded.
Joseph was stunned, thinking, 'Why does Megan want to kill Nathan?'
"Why should I help you?" Joseph was utterly baffled.
"I know you're about to start the second trial with Megan. I can help you win," Nathan said excitedly. "I know many things about Megan that no one else does."
Joseph raised an eyebrow. "Tell me."
"Once, she drugged something you drank. I was the one who got the drug." After saying this, Nathan felt a chill and quickly added, "It was Megan who made me do it. You never slept with her, and she wanted to get pregnant with your child. However, you went to Cassie afterward."
