Chapter 325
"Cassie was taken aback; she hadn't been fond of him in the past, but she realized their situations had similarities. ""Why worry, Liam? We can't control our origins, and besides, you're luckier than me—your parents are married.""
""Yeah, but people always compare me to my brother. I'm always in his shadow,"" Liam shrugged helplessly. ""Come on, let's go. I'll introduce you to the police chief.""
""Thanks, Liam.""
Hesitating for a moment, Cassie followed. With thousands of employees behind her, she had no reason to give up an opportunity.

Three days later
Joseph returned to New York from an international conference. When the plane landed at the airport, Walter updated him on the company's affairs.
He listened until they were in the sedan when Walter said, ""We've secured all the necessary permits for the Peace Group project.""
Joseph pulled off the tie constricting his neck. ""Who on my turf helped her out?""
""Liam.""
The air tensed.
Joseph's finely chiseled lips curved in a cold sneer. ""What game is Liam trying to play now?""
""Has Liam sensed something?"" Walter speculated with concern.
""I think he's been too idle lately. The company's project in country F isn't moving forward. Send him there to deal with it,"" Joseph commanded indifferently.
Walter winced, ""But, there's intense anti-American sentiment in country F, and it's not very safe. The lady of the house might get upset.""
""Since when has she not been upset about something?"" Joseph said nonchalantly, chuckling. ""Does Cassie think that she can rest easy just because Peace Group is out of trouble? Unfortunately, she has too many vulnerabilities.""
Walter frowned, sensing that Joseph was on the brink of madness. The Hernandez family had just settled down, and now, a new storm seemed imminent.

On the day Peace Group broke ground, Cassie called Liam. ""Liam, I appreciate your help recently. I'd like to take you out to dinner to express my gratitude.""
""I can't make it,"" Liam said with a bitter laugh. ""I just landed in country F. My brother sent me here to oversee our project.""
Cassie was shocked. ""But I heard the situation in country F is chaotic, with frequent conflicts and even violence. A lot of people from Madison run into trouble there. Why would Joseph send you?""
Liam paused before speaking, ""I'm not entirely sure why he blew up at me, but it figures. He's probably had it out for me for a while now.""
Figures, my foot.
Cassie was on the verge of swearing. No doubt Joseph had found out about Liam helping her.
""Don't worry about it. My mom will find a way to get me transferred back soon,"" Liam consoled her.
""Yeah, I'll treat you to dinner once you return.""

That evening, David picked her up for dinner at a restaurant.
Throughout the ride, David barely spoke. Even Cassie, who could be oblivious at times, sensed his discontent. ""What's wrong? Who ticked you off?""
""Someone decided to move out of the Chapman family to live in a hotel and refused to tell me. Even when there's trouble at the office, I'm kept in the dark,"" David frowned with a hint of displeasure. ""Cassie, I'm your fiancé, but why do I feel like you treat me like an outsider?""

Cassie pondered for a moment before she said, ""You've got a lot on your plate with your own company. I don't want to distract you...""
""There's nothing at work I can't handle. You're my fiancée, and it's my job to be there for you, to share your burdens,"" said David earnestly. ""In a city like New York, I might not hold much sway, but I want you to understand that no matter what, I'm ready to do everything I can to help you. Cassie, this makes me feel useless.""
""I'm sorry."" Cassie felt a surge of remorse. ""It won't happen again.""
""If you truly feel sorry, move out of the hotel and come live with me."" David held her hand. ""I bought a villa in New York; there's more than enough space for both of us.""
Cassie instinctively resisted the idea. Previously, David was injured and couldn't do much, but now he was better, and living together might lead to more complications."
