Chapter 204

"“Tell me more about Mr. Jonathan’s role at the company?”

Locco nodded, “Mr. Jonathan has served a key position for ten years, boosting company profits by ten percent during his tenure. The shareholders are quite pleased with him. If you’re thinking of firing Mr. Brooks, it might cause a backlash.”

“That’s enough, I get it. You may go,” Cassie dismissed him, and silence enveloped her.

She spent the rest of the day inspecting various departments.

By late afternoon, not a single executive had shown up.

As darkness fell, Cassie turned to Joe and said, “Do me a favor, find a private detective. I need some information.”

--------

At seven in the evening.

Cassie, clutching a pile of documents, returned home.

Joseph sat in the living room, lounging in casual wear with an authoritative air, while Walter stood by respectfully with updates.

Taking off her shoes, Cassie entered, noting Joseph's turned head and the slight downturn of his perfect lips, “Mr. Brooks deems to come home.”

“I’ve been working overtime at the office. Have you had dinner?” she read his discontent and explained somewhat helplessly.

Joseph pursed his lips, silent. Mrs. Parker stepped out with an explanation, “Mr. Hernandez didn’t care for the meal I cooked. Seems like it's up to you.”
Cassie sighed silently, sat down beside him, and rested her head on his shoulder. ""I've had a long day, and I'm just physically and emotionally drained. Mrs. Parker's cooking might be similar to mine. Mind settling for that?""

""Trouble at work?"" Joseph turned to look at her, her hair tickling his nose, carrying a faint, pleasant scent.

""Yeah, the bigwigs aren't taking me seriously, and there are still tough battles ahead,"" Cassie murmured, growing increasingly fond of the comfort in leaning on him, not wanting to think about anything, enjoying the tranquility.

Joseph raised an eyebrow and, after a moment, gave Walter an order: ""Go to the company tomorrow, help her whip things into shape, and get them to fall in line within one day.""

""Sure."" Walter promptly replied. As the assistant to Madison's richest man, sorting out the small fries at Peace Group was a piece of cake for him.

But Cassie was quick to interject, ""No, Walter's competent, but he's still just your assistant. He doesn't know the ins and outs of the company. Those sharks will eat him alive.""

Walter, accustomed to thoroughly handling such tasks, was momentarily speechless.
That had to be the best joke he'd heard all year.

""Your concern is appreciated,"" Cassie said genuinely. ""I've uncovered the reason behind that construction site accident that injured you. I will seek vengeance for you.""

""...Good, my woman is so capable,"" Joseph said, affectionately ruffling her hair. ""please help yourself to some food if you're hungry.""

""And you?"" she asked.

""I'm fine.""

After a long look at him, feeling utterly helpless, she nonetheless went to the kitchen to fix him something to eat.

After she disappeared, Walter continued, ""Richard will be in Madison soon for an inspection. The powers that be here are already aware, and it's likely to cause a stir.""

""He's a nobody, treated like a prized possession only in these parts,"" Joseph scoffed.

""Do you want to arrange a meeting?"" Walter asked.

""No need. He's not worth my time.""

Joseph stood up. ""It's late. You should head home.""

Walter and Joe left one after the other."
