Chapter 1519 Who Is Your Wife?

She blushed and loosened her grip around his waist, sneaking a glance at Derek.

He seemed clueless, still holding her hand as they walked towards the elevator.

The natural closeness made her fingers twitch uncomfortably.

"What's up?" Derek asked, turning back and gripping her hand a bit tighter.

"It's just, we…" Laura awkwardly raised her arm, trying to remind him.

"You said you were dizzy. I'm worried you might fall," Derek's expression was so casual, making Laura feel like she might be overthinking.

'It's just holding hands,' she thought. They had even slept together earlier.

But she and Elliott had never been this close.

Unfortunately, her head was spinning, and the more she tried to think, the dizzier she got.

Once they reached the second floor, there was no time for more thoughts as Derek led her to see the doctor.

After checking the test results, the doctor took her temperature again. "It's a fever. Do you want medication or an IV?"

Derek asked, "Will one IV session be enough?"

The doctor shook his head, "At least two days of IV."

"I don't want an IV," Laura had recently spent some time in the hospital and didn't want to go through that again. "Medication will be fine."

"Alright," the doctor didn't insist, "I'll prescribe some antipyretics. Take them immediately after you get them. If the fever keeps coming back, you'll need to come back for an IV."

Laura nodded obediently, "Doc, will this be contagious to children?"

"Of course. Avoid contact with children for now," the doctor said while writing the prescription. "The weather is getting colder, and more people are getting the flu. I've seen over ten flu cases today alone."

Laura felt dejected.

How did she get the flu? She used to be quite healthy, but maybe her constitution weakened after having a child.

After getting the prescription, Derek took her to the first floor and went to get the medication.

Five minutes later, he came back with a cup of warm water and the antipyretics.

Laura weakly took the medication from his hand, then asked feebly, "Where did you get the hot water?"

"I asked the nurse," Derek replied.

She looked at him oddly, "With so many patients every day, the nurse would give it to you?"

Derek smiled, "I pleaded with her, saying my wife is sick and very uncomfortable, and asked for her help. I'm so handsome, no woman could easily refuse me."

"Who's your wife?" Laura glared at him, but her heart skipped a beat when she met his gentle eyes.

A wave of irritation surged up, and she kicked him, "It's all your fault. If I hadn't gone to pick you up yesterday, I wouldn't have caught the flu."

"Yes, it's all my fault."

Derek wasn't hurt by the kick. Her legs were soft, and her voice was soft as well. Her angry words sounded a reproof carrying a hint of coyness.

"The doctor said you should avoid contact with Maeve for now. I have an empty apartment nearby. Why don't you stay there tonight?" he suggested.

"No, I'll stay at Riverside Blossom tonight. I have my own place; I don't want to stay at your place," Laura said petulantly.

"It's up to you," Derek coaxed, "To make up for my mistake, let me take you there."

Laura glanced at him, seeing his ingratiating look, and finally smiled, "I'm all sore and weak."

"Alright, I'll carry you then." Derek quickly squatted in front of her.

Feeling weak, Laura instinctively leaned onto his back and wrapped her arms around his neck.

Derek carried her out.

In a hospital, a man carrying a woman wasn't unusual.

Laura lay on his back, and as a cold wind blew outside, she belatedly realized Derek was carrying her.

Was she being too delicate? She had never let anyone carry her even when she had a fever before.

But lying on his broad back, she felt empty and found a sense of reliance, not wanting to get down.

Maybe no matter how old you were, when you were sick, you craved someone to rely on.

When Derek finally got her into the car, Laura mumbled, "Did I tire you out? Am I too heavy?"

"Not at all," Derek said.

He bent down to fasten her seatbelt.

Looking at his handsome face so close, Laura had a sudden impulse to reach out and hug his neck.

Realizing how inappropriate this thought was, she felt incredulous and lightly patted her head.

Was she delirious from the fever?

"Does your head hurt?" Derek asked softly, staring into her eyes.

"What?" Laura didn't hear.

Derek's hand touched her forehead again.

"I saw you patting your head and thought it hurt," Derek explained, "Your temperature seems to have gone up a bit."

"It's okay. I took the antipyretics; I should feel better soon." Laura shrank her neck to avoid his hand.

Derek nodded.

He started the car and headed towards Riverside Blossom, "It's past six now. Are you hungry? Want to eat something first?"

"No, I have no appetite. I just want to lie down," Laura shook her head.

Derek didn't say anything more.

After parking in the underground garage at Riverside Blossom, he took her bag in one hand and supported her with the other as they went to the elevator.

Once inside, Laura went upstairs, took off her coat and pants, and got under the covers.

Halfway through her sleep, she felt someone lifting her upper body, leaning her against a familiar embrace.

"Here, take your medicine," Derek held her and gave her the medication.

She drank it from the cup, her face scrunching up from the bitterness.

"There's no sugar at your place, drink some water," Derek gave her a couple of sips of water before helping her lie down.

As he got up, he noticed she was only wearing a beige knit top and a glimpse of white lace underwear underneath.

He quickly looked away and tucked her in.

After he left, Laura fell asleep again.

When Laura woke up, she was drenched in sweat. Though still weak, she didn't feel as much pain.

She sat up, grabbed a set of pajamas from the coat rack, and went to the bathroom to shower.

Even though she didn't live here anymore, this place was still her home in Whisperlyn City, with everything she needed.

After showering, she realized she had forgotten to bring her pajama pants, so she came out of the bathroom wearing just the top.

As she reached the middle of the bedroom, the door suddenly opened.
