Chapter 997 Stay Away From Cassie
"How many people quit this week?" Joseph asked calmly.
Wyat clenched his fists. After a long pause, he finally said, "Mr. Hernandez, I plan to resign from Dragon too."
A flicker of disappointment crossed Joseph's eyes. "Why, Wyat? Is someone digging into your business?"
"No," Wyat hesitated, then admitted. "Athena's pregnant. Dragon doesn't allow relationships between superiors and subordinates. I plan to resign. I'm also tired of this lifestyle and want to retire with Athena."
"I see," Joseph said, a bit surprised. He knew the Hernandez family was short on funds, and keeping Dragon running required a lot of capital, which he didn't have right now.
Maybe it was best for those who wanted to leave to go. The ones who stayed were truly loyal.
"You can go," Joseph said lightly. "I'll find someone to take over your position."
"Thank you." Wyat left, feeling a bit regretful.
"Oh, Wyat," Joseph suddenly called out. "When Liam was thrown out, are you sure no one see it?"
Wyat was startled but stayed firm. "Yes."
"Good." Joseph nodded.
After Wyat left, Nathaniel asked, "Mr. Hernandez, what did you mean by that last question?"
"I didn't expect Athena to be pregnant," Joseph said, raising an eyebrow. "I always thought Wyat was a sincere and aloof leader, but I was wrong. The fact that he's willing to retire with Athena because of her pregnancy shows how important she is to him."
"So..." Nathaniel said.
"You've forgotten that Athena has been protecting Megan for the past three years," Joseph reminded him. "Athena has not only spoken up for Megan but also orchestrated various schemes. She's not simple. I had my doubts before, but I trust Wyat."
Nathaniel got it. "But now that Athena's pregnant with Wyat's child, maybe there are things Wyat hasn't told you. Should we have someone track him?"
"Track him with who?" Joseph sighed. "Dragon is my last stronghold. If Wyat leaves, more people will follow. Let's wait and see. Those who stay until the end are the most loyal. I'll have someone investigate Wyat and Athena later."
At eight o'clock in the evening, David had just finished a social event and got into his private car.
Suddenly, he noticed the driver was frozen in place.
He was about to turn his head when a gun was pressed against his temple.
"Don't move," a man's voice, dripping with dangerous amusement, said.
"Who are you?" David glanced at the man beside him, who wore a white mask and looked ominous.
In the passenger seat, Cameron wore a black mask and casually played with a golden lighter, his presence making the car feel cramped.
"I'm here to tell you," Cameron said softly. "David, stay away from Cassie."
"Are you one of Joseph's men?" David asked.
He'd been planning to take down Joseph for a while. If it was Joseph, he'd make sure he never rose again.
"No," Cameron said, flicking his lighter, a small flame illuminating the dim car. "Just remember what I'm telling you. If you get involved with Cassie, I'll kill you next time."
David clenched his fists, his body trembling with anger.
Cameron seemed unfazed, his tone chilling. "You're eager to get rid of me, but who would you turn to? The killers from Neya City?"
David was stunned. 'Apart from Marcus, no one knew about the killers. How does he know?' he thought.
"I also know your love for Cassie isn't pure." Cameron chuckled. "While others might have genuine love, yours is all about calculation."
David's body trembled. 'Who is he? How does he know my secrets?' he wondered.
"Stay away from Cassie. If you don't, you're dead."
Cameron opened the car door.
Soon after, a black unmarked car pulled up.
The man next to David retreated and got into the car, quickly driving off.
David punched the leather seat, his handsome face twisted with anger.
'When did he come to Whisperlyn City? He even knows about the Neya City killers,' he thought.
"Mr. Foster." The driver turned back nervously.
"Find out who that guy is," David commanded coldly.
"Alright. Are we heading home now?" the driver asked.
"No, take me to the club," David said, feeling increasingly annoyed. He had lost all interest in going home; Cameron's words had made him cautious.
He couldn't afford any mistakes in his plans.
He was deeply frustrated, especially since he'd wanted Cassie for a long time.
Upon arriving at the club, David downed a glass of liquor.
The door to the private room suddenly swung open. Ignoring it, he only looked up when a finger touched his back.
"Back off," he said, raising his eyes to see Megan's delicate face.
Megan was elegantly dressed in a white gown, exuding a pure aura. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been able to manipulate Madison's Michael and Joseph for so many years.
"Megan, what do you want?" David warned, narrowing his eyes.
"Mr. Foster, Cassie isn't with you. Are you feeling lonely?" Megan sat down beside him, smiling as she poured him more alcohol. "Even if she were here, aren't you tired of pretending in front of her?"
David chuckled. "Megan, you're truly the most despicable woman I've ever met. What's the matter? Michael's been expelled from the Jude family, so he's no longer of any use to you."
"Not exactly. Who knows if Michael might have a chance to turn things around." Megan didn't mind his insults and laughed. "I'm here just to protect my one billion dollars."
"You've got the wrong person." David coldly gripped her chin. "I helped you before because you had something I could use. What do you have now?"
