Chapter 1042 Joseph, Calm Down
Cassie teased with a grin, "Never thought a woman would corner you. Having a rough time, huh? Why not marry her? Marigold's got a fancy background, and when Ralph becomes the vice..."
Before she could finish, Joseph clamped a hand over her mouth and gave her a firm smack on the butt.
Cassie turned beet red, eyes blazing. "Joseph, how dare you hit me."
"Cassie, cut it out. I only love you. Even if Marigold ruins me, I wouldn't care." Joseph buried his head next to her ear, his voice low and raspy. "We've been through so much. I get it now—power and money mean nothing. Only you matter."
Cassie shivered at his husky voice and breath. She said regretfully, "You figured it out, but it's too late. You've already missed your chance with me."
"It's not too late," Joseph said, nuzzling her. "If you didn't care, you wouldn't have come in. You clearly care about me."
Cassie pushed him away, embarrassed. "Derek pushed me in."
"I don't care. You can help me now," Joseph said, lifting his head in pain.
Cassie saw his handsome face flushed red, looking like he was about to explode. Panic set in.
"Cassie, don't leave. If you go, I'll die," Joseph said, grabbing her hand and placing it on his body.
Cassie was stunned. Marigold had set him up, but his body showed no reaction.
Cassie suddenly felt very sympathetic towards Joseph.
Joseph looked at her with a bitter smile. "Cassie, I feel terrible, but I don't know what to do."
Cassie was flustered. It was the first time she had encountered such a situation, but she knew that if this continued, Joseph would definitely be in trouble. "Why don't you go to the hospital?"
"No, Cassie, I'm a man. I have my pride. If you let me be taken out like this, tell me, how will I face others in the future?" Joseph said with a bitter smile. "I might as well be dead."
Cassie was helpless.
She never thought Joseph would be like this, but she could understand him. Even in his downfall, Joseph was still proud.
"Cassie, I'm so hot, so miserable," Joseph said, collapsing as he hugged her. Even though he had Cassie in his arms, it still couldn't alleviate the effects of the drug on him.
"Joseph, calm down. Let me think of a way." Cassie told herself to stay calm.
She slowly reached out to cup his handsome face, stood on her tiptoes, and pressed her lips to his.
Outside the bathroom, even though the TV was on loudly, Laura and Derek could still hear Joseph's ambiguous sounds coming from inside.
Laura and Derek exchanged a glance, both blushing.
Until Laura couldn't stand it anymore and picked up the remote to turn the volume up even more, Derek stopped her. "Don't make the TV too loud. It will also raise suspicion."
"But..." Laura said awkwardly.
"I'll go out first," Derek said. "If anyone asks me, I'll say you're resting upstairs."
"You might as well let me go out," Laura whispered. "It's so awkward for me to stay in here."
"You're pregnant. If you stay upstairs, you can help cover for them. If I stay up here, people will come looking for me," Derek said, giving her an encouraging look. "Hang in there. You've been through this before. I'm still a green hands in this matter."
Laura coughed hard.
Derek smiled and turned to leave.
Laura stayed there, feeling helpless.
Downstairs, Marigold had searched the entire building but still hadn't seen Joseph.
She was furious, thinking, 'Joseph's drug should have kicked in by now. In his state, where could he have gone? If he found another woman to deal with it, everything would be ruined! No!'
"By the way, have you seen Cassie?" she suddenly asked.
"I haven't seen her," Lydia said suddenly. "Could Joseph have found her?"
"Shut up," Marigold snapped. "If Cassie dares to be so shameless, I'll make her pay. You guys find Cassie immediately. I've got people guarding the entrance. Joseph must still be here."
"Marigold, when we went to Derek's room earlier, we found Laura there too. Laura and Cassie are good friends, and the Jude family and the Hernandez family have a good relationship. Could it be that Derek and Laura are covering for Cassie and Joseph?" Lydia suggested.
Marigold's mind raced. What Lydia said made sense.
"Let's go check upstairs again," she said, quickly heading upstairs.
This time, she didn't knock. She pushed the door open.
On the sofa in the room, Cassie and Laura were eating fruit and chatting happily. When Marigold came in, Laura was so scared she patted her chest. "Ms. Dixon, what are you doing? Even though this is your house, you can't just barge in without a word."
"Ms. Brooks, you're here too," Marigold said, staring intently at Cassie. She saw Cassie leaning on the sofa with one elbow, her hand supporting her chin, looking lazy and beautiful, which made Marigold feel a surge of jealousy.
Even though she was a few years younger than Cassie, Cassie's stunning looks were something she could never compare to.
"Cassie and I are good friends. Is it strange for us to be chatting here?" Cassie asked with a slight smile, raising an eyebrow.
"Not strange. I'm sorry for interrupting," Marigold said, walking further in. "I need to use the bathroom."
Without waiting for Cassie and Laura to respond, she quickly pushed open the bathroom door. It was empty except for a faint scent of a woman's perfume and a damp atmosphere.
She glanced at the showerhead. It was obvious that someone had used it recently. Joseph had likely been hiding in there and used cold water to wash himself.
Thinking about Cassie sitting outside, her body trembled with anger.
She stormed out, her eyes filled with rage as she looked at Cassie. "Were you and Joseph hiding in there just now?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Cassie replied calmly. "I just came up."
"Stop pretending, Cassie. How can you be so shameless? You're married, yet you were hiding in the bathroom with Joseph. I've never seen such a despicable woman like you," Marigold shouted angrily.
