Chapter 1595 Attending the Banquet

At 10:30 PM, Derek finally left the building where Laura lived.

The next day, when Carl got up, the attendants at the White House informed him of the matter.

"Derek was probably discussing some arrangements for hosting the First Lady of Serindale today with Laura," Violet said casually while trying on clothes in front of the full-length mirror. "Last night, I gave Laura a lot of information about today's banquet. When Derek came to visit me, I mentioned it casually, and he said he would go check if Laura remembered everything."

"They do seem to get along quite well," Carl hesitated. "But after all, they are not real siblings. It isn't appropriate for a man and a woman to be alone together this late at night, and I heard they had a late-night snack together the night before."

"Yes, Derek does get along well with her. They are the same age and have common topics," Violet laughed. "It would have been nice if Laura had married Derek back then; they would have been a good match."

"What's done is done. Don't bring this up again," Carl said seriously. "Talking too much about it might give them inappropriate thoughts. They are siblings now, and that's good enough."

"I understand," Violet nodded.

"Also, I will privately remind Derek not to visit Laura so late at night. Although the White House is quiet, there are many eyes around," Carl said.

"You go ahead and talk to him. I won't mention it to Laura. She might feel shy and overthink it."

After breakfast, Violet took Laura with her to the banquet hall.

Upon arrival, Laura noticed that besides the First Lady of Serindale, there were also the chairman of the Serindale Foundation, the vice president's wife, and high-ranking officials from the State Department. Additionally, there were several journalists in the hall, including reporters from Madison and other countries.

This was Laura's first time attending such an event, and she was accompanying Violet. A Madison reporter gave Laura a close-up, and a reporter from Austin asked the Madison reporter, "Who is the lady next to the First Lady? She's quite beautiful. Is she a secretary or a family member?"

"She should be the First Lady's goddaughter."

"To become the First Lady's goddaughter, she must have an extraordinary background. She has a good temperament and seems very composed in such a setting."

"Her family is considered middle to lower class among the wealthy circles in Madison. But she is quite capable herself, having created her own brand and developed many skincare and cosmetic products. She has gained some fame in the international beauty market."

At the luncheon, Laura personally introduced the dishes on the table in Serindale's language.

Laura's actions not only surprised and delighted the visitors from Serindale but also greatly astonished Violet.

The Serindale language is very difficult to pronounce, and given the country's remote and impoverished status, many nations do not bother to learn their language, let alone introduce dish names, which is even more challenging.

the First Lady of Serindale whispered something to the translator, who then said to Violet, "Madam, the First Lady of Serindale said Laura's Serindale language is excellent. She understood it very well and is even more looking forward to this luncheon."

"Thank you," Violet smiled and nodded.

The nearby journalists quietly recorded this scene.

When the charity event ended, Laura and Violet sat in the same car on the way back.

After a long and tiring day, Laura felt exhausted. She didn't even feel this tired after spending a whole day in the lab.

"Feeling tired?" Violet gently patted her hand, her tone softer than usual.

"A little."

"You really surprised me," Violet praised. "I only gave you the information last night. I thought you might not remember it all, but not only did you remember, you also translated the dish names into Serindale's language and even learned several daily phrases. You did better than I did."

It was rare for Violet to praise her so much, and Laura felt a bit shy.

In fact, Derek had given her all the translations of the dish names; she just had to memorize them.

But when Derek left last night, he reminded her not to mention his help to Violet.

Derek wanted her to perform well in front of Violet, and she understood that.

"Translation is indeed difficult. Fortunately, I asked Derek to help me last night, but we stayed up very late."

"No wonder Derek stayed with you so late last night," Violet realized.

Laura lowered her head. Could she say it was because she and Derek made love?

"Alright, in any case, it still required your effort. When we were leaving, the First Lady told me to bring you to Serindale next time."

Laura was stunned. The fact that her hard work had paid off and satisfied the other party made her feel quite content. "Actually, I was a bit nervous today."

"Nervousness is normal, especially since it's your first time, but you didn't make any mistakes," Violet continued with a smile. "Serindale is poorer than Madison. They were not very confident during this visit. Your behavior made the First Lady of Serindale feel valued and respected. I believe the two countries will soon reach an important agreement."

Laura nodded.

As a member of Madison, being able to contribute a little to the country felt pretty good.

That evening, while Laura was at home with her child, someone suddenly contacted her in the friends' group chat.

Cassie: [Joseph was watching the news just now and suddenly saw you on the 7:30 PM news. Impressive.]

Cassie then sent over several screenshots.

Bernice was not to be outdone and sent several screenshots from foreign TV channels.

Bernice: [I'm attending Fashion Week in Selaestan, and while I was bored in the hotel watching TV, I saw you on the international channel. Impressive.]

Cassie: [Even foreign channels are broadcasting it. I didn't expect that. I'm still working as a CEO, and Laura has already taken a step onto the international political stage.]

Bernice: [I've been in the industry for so many years, and the only time I was on the most important TV show was last New Year's Eve. Laura, you're at the peak just by being on TV. I'm ashamed.]

Laura: [Excited, I didn't expect it. I thought it was just an ordinary charity banquet.]

Cassie: [A meeting between the First Ladies of two countries is just an ordinary banquet? You can quietly show off now.]

Bernice: [I feel like Laura is different now, with a unique aura.]

Cassie: [Right, she has that First Lady vibe.]

Bernice: [From what I've seen, you might be trending tomorrow.]

Laura: [No, I don't want that.]

As it turned out, some things were not up to Laura's wishes.

The internet was just too powerful nowadays.
