Chapter 1595 Attending the Banquet
At 10:30 PM, Derek finally left the building where Laura lived.
The next day, when Carl got up, the attendants at the White House informed him of the matter.
"Derek was probably discussing some arrangements for hosting the First Lady of Serindale today with Laura," Violet said casually while trying on clothes in front of the full-length mirror. "Last night, I gave Laura a lot of information about today's banquet. When Derek came to visit me, I mentioned it casually, and he said he would go check if Laura remembered everything."
"They do seem to get along quite well," Carl hesitated. "But after all, they are not real siblings. It isn't appropriate for a man and a woman to be alone together this late at night, and I heard they had a late-night snack together the night before."
"Yes, Derek does get along well with her. They are the same age and have common topics," Violet laughed. "It would have been nice if Laura had married Derek back then; they would have been a good match."
"What's done is done. Don't bring this up again," Carl said seriously. "Talking too much about it might give them inappropriate thoughts. They are siblings now, and that's good enough."
"I understand," Violet nodded.
"Also, I will privately remind Derek not to visit Laura so late at night. Although the White House is quiet, there are many eyes around," Carl said.
"You go ahead and talk to him. I won't mention it to Laura. She might feel shy and overthink it."
After breakfast, Violet took Laura with her to the banquet hall.
Upon arrival, Laura noticed that besides the First Lady of Serindale, there were also the chairman of the Serindale Foundation, the vice president's wife, and high-ranking officials from the State Department. It was rare for Violet to praise her so much, and Laura felt a bit shy.
In fact, Derek had given her all the translations of the dish names; she just had to memorize them.
But when Derek left last night, he reminded her not to mention his help to Violet.
Derek wanted her to perform well in front of Violet, and she understood that.
