Chapter 24 She put up with it to become the younger uncle's wife
Cassie took the dishes back to the kitchen, gritting her teeth and cursing him the whole time.
In the living room, Joseph was about to go to the study when he noticed a book on the sofa titled "Cat Pregnancy Recipes."
He frowned, wondering if Cassie already knew about Dakota's pregnancy.
Just then, Cassie came out after washing the dishes and explained when she saw the book in his hand. "I went to the pet store today, and the owner said that recipes for a cat's stomach are similar to pregnancy recipes, so I bought this book."
Joseph heaved a sigh of relief because she didn't know about Dakota's pregnancy yet.
He casually flipped through the book and suddenly saw a familiar recipe, his handsome face stiffening.
After a long while, he held up the book to show her the picture. "Is the pudding you made especially for me?"
Cassie shivered, realizing she had forgotten the pudding she made earlier was from a recipe in that book.
"You made it just for me. As long as I think it tastes good, that's all that matters," Joseph said grimly. He couldn't believe he had eaten cat food. Now, his throat felt queasy, and his stomach churned.
Cassie was on the verge of tears. "Actually, I made it for Dakota, but you ate it. You even said it was good. I didn't dare to tell the truth at the time."
"Cassie," Joseph gritted his teeth. He had never wanted to strangle someone so badly.
Cassie shrank back at his shout. "Actually, the ingredients are quite nutritious."
"If it's so nutritious, why don't you eat it yourself?"
"I don't think it tastes good."
"You're something else," Joseph pointed a finger at her, remembering how he had praised the taste earlier. His face turned sullen with anger.
Cassie wanted to explain further, but Joseph stormed into the study, slamming the door behind him.
Cassie was on the verge of tears, thinking, 'Oh gosh, he is really mad this time.'
Ten minutes later, she mustered up the courage to knock on the study door.
"Get lost," a rough voice came from inside.
Cassie closed her eyes in despair. Joseph was still fuming; she decided to wait a bit longer.
She took a shower and changed into a cute, sweet set of pajamas, letting her long hair fall lazily over her shoulders.
She threw a flirtatious glance at herself in the mirror.
"What are you doing?" Joseph's voice startled her out of nowhere.
Cassie jumped and turned to find Joseph holding a teacup, looking at her with a hint of mockery.
She pondered, 'When did he come out? How could he walk so quietly? I am practicing how to seduce you.'
"I was mesmerized by my reflection," she stammered shyly.
Joseph was silent, but he had to admit Cassie's natural beauty was refreshing and unique. Even in the beauty-filled Whisperlyn City, few women could match her effortless charm.
"I only see your pretense," he said mockingly before turning to pour some water.
Cassie followed him with small steps. "What will it take for you to stop being mad? I'll even eat a portion of the cat pudding if that helps."
Joseph suddenly smirked and took out a bag of cat food from the cabinet. "The only way I'll feel better is if you eat a bowl of cat food."
Cassie was shocked by his cruelty.
"That's different. The cat pudding was made with healthy ingredients, and you didn't even think it tasted bad."
"Shut up," Joseph snapped, his face darkening at the mention of it.
Determined to make amends, Cassie took the cat food, poured herself a bowl, and ate a few pieces. The taste was indescribable.
