Chapter 693
As thoughts of Sie and the man in the car replayed in his mind, Joseph was consumed by an unsettling discomfort. The possibility of them reenacting the intimate encounter they had shared a few days prior was too much for him to bear. Unable to contain his unease, he dialed a number on his phone.Within a span of ten minutes, the flashing lights of a police car illuminated the parked vehicle. A knock on the car window interrupted the silence. The man inside, startled, pressed the window button, lowering the glass barrier."Is there a problem?" he inquired, his voice laced with confusion. The police officer, feeling a tad awkward, glanced at the young man and woman inside the car."Someone reported that you were engaging in improper transactions in the car," he stated, his tone carrying a hint of embarrassment. The insinuation hung in the air, leaving them to wonder what kind of illicit activities a man and woman could possibly be involved in within the confines of a car. Both Tyler Bennett and Sie wore grim expressions. Sie crossed her arms defensively, challenging the officer, "Do we look disheveled?" The officer, taken aback, muttered an apology, cursing the person who had made the report under his breath. No sooner had the police officer departed than a water truck zoomed past, drenching Tyler, who was seated by the window. The unexpected shower left him looking miserable and furious, his face paling instantly."I'm sorry. Maybe you should go back and take a shower and change your clothes," Sie suggested, a suppressed smile playing on her lips. Tyler, despite his annoyance, managed a bitter smile. He was no fool. He knew that Sie had many suitors that night, and he was the only one who had the privilege of taking her home. This must have sparked jealousy among the others."No, I might have offended someone tonight, and someone might come back to trouble me," Sie reasoned, handing him a tissue before stepping out of the car and making her way towards the apartment complex. As she reached out to press the elevator button, a large hand suddenly blocked her path. A familiar masculine scent enveloped her from behind. Without turning around, Sie said in a nonchalant tone, "You haven't had enough fun tonight, have you?""Me causing trouble?" the man behind her scoffed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. Sie spun around to face him, her eyes narrowing, "You reported me for engaging in improper transactions and had the sprinkler truck wet Tyler. Don't say it wasn't you."Joseph, finding the accusation amusing, responded with a sarcastic smile, "Would I do something so boring?" He would never admit to such a thing; it would be too embarrassing."Perhaps some people saw you dressed inappropriately and kindly reported it," Joseph suggested, his gaze lingering on the exposed skin of her outfit. "Look at you, dressed like this, hanging out with Tyler, that playboy. Aren't you afraid of being called frivolous?""What's wrong with me being frivolous? We're divorced; it's none of your business." Sie pushed his hand away and pressed the button to go up.
Joseph watched as she turned away, her exposed back radiating a beauty that stirred a surge of resentment within him. "If Tyler knew you were lying in my car a few days ago, what would he think?""He might sympathize with me more. After all, you're about to enter into marriage," Sie sneered, "Joseph, are you annoyed? We're already divorced, and you forced me to sign the papers. You and Megan are planning to undergo in vitro fertilization, yet you keep coming to me. Don't tell me you still can't let go of me, or maybe... you want both me and Megan."Sie leaned in closer to him, her voice seductive and enticing. Joseph instinctively pushed her away, but images of her stunning performance that night, her laughter and conversation with other men, flooded his mind. He realized he had been watching her all night. They had signed the papers, and she was now free to be with whomever she wanted. But the mere half an hour she had spent with Tyler in the car had felt like an eternity, tearing his heart apart. He knew it was wrong, that it would hurt Megan, and that it was unfair to her. But he just couldn't control himself.
