Chapter 1082 Saying One Thing and Meaning Another
His voice wasn't deliberately lowered.
Cassie clearly noticed that when David heard what Joseph had said, the muscles on his injured face twitched violently.
She laughed so hard that tears almost came out.
She never knew Joseph had such a knack for provoking people.
As David was so angry, she felt quite pleased.
She hadn't forgotten how arrogant David had been recently, and she had never been beaten like that before.
"Let's go, don't mind him. Once you're up the company tell the security at the entrance to strengthen the defense in case David tries to get in," Joseph said, pushing her into the elevator.
"Be careful yourself," Cassie said after pressing the elevator button.
She knew David's character too well; he wouldn't let this humiliation slide.
David could even kill Arthur, let alone Joseph.
"Are you worried about me?" Joseph's face immediately lit up with joy.
"I just don't want you to die because of me. Don't think too much." Cassie pushed him out and closed the elevator door.
Joseph looked at the closed elevator door and smiled happily.
He knew Cassie loved to say one thing and mean another.
At that moment, footsteps approached from behind him.
Joseph turned around and met David's cold gaze.
"David, if you dare to make a move again, I'll beat you to a pulp in self-defense," Joseph squinted his eyes. "You're no match for me. Your fancy moves are only good for bullying women."
David's clenched fist instinctively stiffened; he had planned to launch a sneak attack.
"Although the Hernandez family is indeed in decline, killing me won't be that easy, especially making it look like an accident," Joseph said calmly, "Don't think I don't know. You probably instigated the elevator incident last time through Felix."
"You have quite an imagination," David retorted, suppressing his inner shock.
"David, if you want to kill me, you'd need to call in all the hitmen from Neya City. But even if I die, I'll make sure they all perish too, and you won't have an easy time either." Joseph walked closer to him step by step. "Felix wouldn't dare to hire someone to assassinate me because he knows me better than you do. He knows my skills, so he tried to frame me with Liam's death to get me imprisoned. Unfortunately for him, I'm a lawyer; no one understands the law better than I do."
After speaking, he turned around, got in the car, and left.
David stared viciously at his departing figure. He had thought that crushing Joseph would be easy with the Hernandez family in decline. He didn't expect to underestimate him time and again.
David thought to himself, 'Go ahead and be arrogant. You won't be for long.'
In the morning, Cassie held a department meeting.
All the senior executives were present. The Peace Group had been facing boycotts and insults from the public these past few days, and everyone was having a hard time.
"Ms. Brooks, in the past few days, there have been people causing trouble and insulting you at the sales offices of our properties across the country. Many are even saying they want to cancel their purchases because they don't believe you can build good houses," the general manager of the sales department said hesitantly.
"Ms. Brooks, we believe in you. David is a scumbag, not only violent but also hitting women. Everyone saw the video this morning," a female manager said, "I believe the difficulties the Peace Group is facing are only temporary."
"Ms. Brooks, we support you. We were all deceived by David before."
"Ms. Brooks, you should be releasing more explosive news at six this evening, right? You're not bluffing, are you?"
"Yeah, we're all looking forward to seeing how you make a comeback."
"Can you give us a hint? What will you reveal this afternoon? We can't focus on work because of the anticipation."
Cassie was speechless.
This wasn't what she had expected; she thought the executives would have some complaints.
She didn't expect it would turn into a gossip session.
Cassie clenched her fist and coughed. "Can everyone please focus? We're in a meeting to discuss company matters, not my personal gossip."
Charles laughed. "We can't help it. Almost everyone in Madison is following your love life. People are saying your romantic experiences could be made into a dramatic love story."
"Yeah, a well-known author contacted me this morning, wanting to do a short interview with you and turn your story into a novel."
"My friends know I work at the Peace Group and keep asking me for updates about you. They're all curious about what you'll reveal this afternoon."
"Same here; my family is discussing it, too."
"A variety show even wants you to appear. They say you're more popular than celebrities right now."
"Everyone just wants to know if you'll stick with Joseph and not change your mind."
Cassie was momentarily dazed, thinking, 'Am I holding a press conference? Am I not in a company meeting?'
"Alright, let's get back on track, shall we?" Cassie stood up, raising her hand to quiet everyone down. "If the housing situation doesn't improve, we can consider lowering the prices. We'll make less profit, but I plan to consolidate some funds and have the Peace Group venture into the tourism industry."
"Tourism industry? Sounds good." A manager was the first to support her. "Ms. Brooks, your reputation is growing. If we go into tourism, it will definitely attract a lot of attention."
"Yeah. It's negative for now. I believe you'll soon expose David's true colors."
"Then you can promote it on a famous variety show."
"Or in the romance novel."
"It will definitely be a hit."
Cassie didn't even want to continue the meeting.
She asked herself inwardly, 'Are my employees always this casual? Isn't there anyone who opposed me?'
Finally, back in her office, Cassie felt like she had just attended a large press conference, utterly exhausted.
"Ms. Brooks, why did you suddenly decide to go into tourism? You never mentioned it before. When did you decide?" Charles finally asked a normal question.
Cassie took a sip of tea. "I decided on the way here this morning."
Charles was speechless.
He was speechless at Cassie's spontaneity and decisiveness.
"I had the idea before but never made up my mind. This morning, after hearing my dad talk about some of my mom's past, I wanted to be as bold as she was," Cassie said, her eyes narrowing slightly. She would continue what Isabella had left unfinished.
