Chapter 1277: I don't like it, it's ugly as hell.
The assistant's eyes went wide. "No freakin' way."
Then it hit him. Today, after Declan took Isabella to the hospital, the only two bodyguards were left hanging around outside Isabella's ward.
Back at the villa, it was just the butler, some servants, and the security team.
If the butler and servants had tried to push Olivia, she would've screamed, fought back, something. But the security team didn't notice a thing and thought she was trying to escape when she fell out the window and died.
It was just too weird.
"Mr. Wittelsbach, you think the security team offed Olivia?"
Declan shot him a warning look and whispered, "She had bruises and marks on her back and arms from being pushed."
The assistant went quiet.
Declan was the head honcho of the Wittelsbach family.
But the Wittelsbach family was cutthroat, and Declan had clawed his way up from the bottom; he knew the score.
"Mr. Wittelsbach, the guys protecting us were all Carl's picks. Could it be him?"
"No." Declan shook his head. "Carl just got the top spot; he can't control all of Madison right away, and not everyone's loyal to him. Some folks have their own agendas."
The assistant got a bit jittery. "Mr. Wittelsbach, maybe we should bail from Madison for a while? Anywhere else would be safer."
Declan sneered, "I've been through hell and back, even war zones. You think this scares me?"
The assistant thought, 'Yeah, but that was when you were younger.'
"But we can't stay here. Who knows which of the security team is on our side? They might be gunning for you."
"Relax, they wouldn't dare touch me or let me die in Madison. Killing Olivia was just to shut her up," Declan sneered. "I'm almost sure she wasn't Isabella's daughter at all."
The assistant was floored. "She really had the nerve to play you. But with Madam in her state, she won't believe us. If she finds out Olivia's dead, she might leave you."
Declan took a long drag on his cigarette, looking pissed. "We need to fix her up fast. Keep this under wraps; she can't know."
The assistant thought for a sec. "With Olivia gone, we can't figure out what meds she gave Madam. Should I check her room?"
"Go ahead, but I doubt you'll find squat. It's probably all gone." Declan had no hope; if they could kill Olivia, a little bottle of meds was nothing.
The assistant still went to search, but came up empty.
The next day.
After Lucas brought the doc to check on Joseph, they said he could go home.
Cassie rushed downstairs to handle the discharge papers.
Joseph was stoked. "Awesome, I wanna hit the amusement park."
Cassie was speechless.
She pictured a thirty-year-old dude playing in the sandbox at the amusement park and had no clue how to turn him down.
Joel cleared her throat. "Mr. Hernandez, you can't go out in that hospital gown; you gotta change first."
"I told you, my name's not Mr. Hernandez. It sounds terrible. Just call me Joey," Joseph rolled his eyes and gave Joel a look of pure disdain.
Joel felt awkward. Calling Mr. Hernandez "Joey"? No way. She was scared that once Joseph got better, he'd make her life hell.
"Change your clothes." Cassie saw Joel's struggle, smiled, and pulled out a set of men's casual clothes from the cabinet. They were pretty nice—jeans and a denim shirt. She figured Joseph would look sharp in them.
But Joseph took one look and frowned. "I don't like it. It's ugly."
"What's ugly about it? It looks great. You'll look great in it," Cassie insisted.
"I don't want it." Joseph twisted around, acting all pouty, making Joel super uncomfortable. She had no idea how Cassie put up with this guy. Must be true love.
"What do you want to wear then?" Cassie sighed, giving in.
Joseph grinned. "The Paw Patrol outfit Oliver wore last time. I like it."
Cassie was speechless.
Joseph kept going. "And the SpongeBob outfit that kid in the hallway had on yesterday was cool too."
Joel was mortified. If Mr. Hernandez dressed like that, it would be beyond embarrassing.
"But I really want to see you in this outfit." Cassie's eyes suddenly looked all sad. "I think you would look so handsome in this, and I picked it out just for you. So you don't like what I choose?"
Her beautiful face, with those slightly drooping eyelashes, looked incredibly sad.
Joseph panicked and quickly waved his hands. "No, no, I like it. Cassie, don't be upset. I'll wear it."
He quickly grabbed the clothes.
"Joey, thank you." Cassie looked up, her face lighting up with a happy expression.
Joseph grinned widely.
Joel couldn't bear to watch and quickly closed the door behind her.
Sure enough, as long as Mr. Hernandez and Ms. Brooks were together, whether he was sane or not, they were super lovey-dovey.
In the ward, Cassie helped Joseph take off his hospital gown and said softly, "Joey, you need to learn to dress yourself in the future. You can't always rely on me. Look, this is how you button up."
"Oh, but I'm a kid. I don't wanna move," Joseph said, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"All kids need to learn to do things themselves. Sophia and Oliver dress themselves," Cassie advised.
"But they're older than me."
"But you're much taller than them," Cassie said seriously. "You're as tall as me. Aren't you embarrassed?"
"Nope," Joseph nodded.
Cassie was almost out of words.
She thought she should go back and find the picture books she once bought for Oliver and Sophia.
After changing clothes, Cassie held Joseph's hand and got ready to head home.
But as soon as she opened the door, she saw a well-dressed guy standing outside, chatting with Joel.
Seeing Cassie come out, the guy stepped forward. "Ms. Brooks, hello, I'm Mr. Wittelsbach's assistant. Mr. Wittelsbach would like to meet you. He's waiting for you in the parking lot."
