Chapter 307

""Didn’t you understand me? Pack up your things and get out,"" Joseph said coolly as he wiped his fingers with a towel. His words, sharp as a blade, brooked no dissent.

Shortly after that, someone came in and took the chef away. A new chef quickly filled in, extra cautious not to displease Joseph in any way.

Only Cassie focused on eating her food quietly—Joseph's portion. Others speculated that Joseph was considerate because of Luna and Leo's presence, but she couldn't help feeling that…

Her heart suddenly ached—a dull, inexplicable pain. What was she thinking? She was engaged to another man, and Joseph was with Luna.

After dinner at the Hernandez residence, everyone seemed to value Luna even more.

Only Richard, sharp as a tack, clicked his tongue inwardly, scoffing at the fools who couldn't see Joseph being distraught for Cassie's sake. Luna didn’t matter to him at all.

Then, Mildred suggested, ""Joseph, why don't you take Luna to the home theater and watch a movie together? Get to know each other better.""

Joseph's gaze wandered around the living room, landing on Cassie, who was again engrossed in her phone. A rush of irritation surged through him. He stood up abruptly and headed to the right.

A thrilled Luna hurried to follow him.
Vera spent her afternoon with a few ladies from the Hernandez family, chatting and gossiping, while Leo got roped into a card game. Cassie sat alone on the sofa, engrossed in her smartphone, seemingly invisible to the others.

Like a savvy opportunist, Richard promptly swooped in, balancing a tray adorned with fruit and steaming cups of tea, catering to Cassie's solitary corner. Whether Joseph ends up with her or not, today's family feast showed she held a place in his heart. Playing nice with her now could only bring benefits.

""Miss Brooks, getting bored, huh? How about I take you for some bowling?"" he offered.

""No need. I'd rather sit here peacefully and save us both from speculative glances about 'you and me,'"" Cassie politely declined.

""Fair point. I've already got quite the rep in my own family. I better not drag you into it,"" Richard said with a chagrined smile before walking away.

As Richard reached the foot of the stairs, Liam descended, arching an eyebrow in his direction. ""Got your eye on her?""

""No."" Richard was quick to deny.

""I see. She’s truly stunning. She outshines Luna easily."" Liam clicked his tongue. ""If it weren't for the illegitimacy, I might have even given it a shot.""

Startled, Richard stammered, ""Yeah, she's not... suitably matched for our status.""

""Got it,"" Liam said, giving him a knowing look with a hint of innuendo.

Richard was speechless. “What do you know? Do you realize she's Joseph's woman?” he thought.

Cassie had been immersed in her phone for over forty minutes when a servant approached her.

""Miss Brooks, the Lady requests your presence,"" the servant announced.

""What does she want?"" Cassie enquired.

""I'm not quite sure. I'm just following her instructions.""

Cassie trailed behind the servant until they reached a courtyard with steaming mineral pools.

""The Lady, she...,"" Cassie began to speak, but someone pushed her from behind into one of the pools before she could finish.
